September 29, 2022 - Might not be a scam. I routinely ship packages using pirate ship. I have ~30-40 per year that arrive with "insufficient postage." ~30-35 of those result in me getting auto charged the excess. I only dispute the ones that are grossly excessive overages. It is always a big battle, which is a different story.

So my account has been flagged for review by security and they're asking for a photo of me holding my ID. Has anyone encountered this problem using this website? I don't feel safe giving them a photo of my face and ID when i've already given them my bank infromation. For the record all I've done is made an account and I haven't been able to purchase anything.

Edit: Ok so I sent them the photo of me and my ID and nothing has happened so far and I was able to make my purchase so they seem pretty legit

2nd Edit (August 25, 2025): Still nothing has happened to my account. Pirateship seems to be legit

It's a legit site. I've had it recommended to me by the local shipping store ironically.

I've been using them since 2018 and LOVE them. Just with UPS I've saved several thousands of dollars shipping stuff internationally. As for the photo ID thing - I wouldn't worry about it. They are a legit site.

Full time online retailer. I use pirateship every day. It's legit. You need to accurately measure your package (round up) and weight. There are only surcharges if you are not accurate in these things.

Hi, I've started shipping packages with Pirateship and I just tried it out with a friend who ordered something from me on etsy. However I'm a little confused about the email it sends out, I have the settings turned on so that etsy sends out an email when I print the shipping label with Pirateship as well as an email from Pirateship itself. However when I asked my friend she only received the email from Pirateship which doesn't include the tracking number, and not the one from etsy. Am I doing something wrong?

I wasn't even aware that Pirate Ship would email the tracking number to customers. I use Pirate Ship, and I'd just log on to Etsy, mark an order as "Shipped," and paste the tracking number when prompted to.

PirateShip does send a notification if you put the customer’s email address in when you do a single label. I’m not sure if it does so with an Etsy import.

Gee I can print labels (cheaper) in my PJS and not have to leave the house. I work PT at a Pack and Ship and I don't buy my ecommerce labels there. I use whoever is cheapest.

They have a different business model. Our model is service. So if your customers value you handling administration like claims etc maybe the P&SG perhaps. If your customer just wants the cheapest price...we cant compete on just pure price. Lot more I can say about it, but im not posting it publicly.

I sent a package contains $6800 worth of computers. UPS mangled the box. UPS has agreed to pay the claim, BUT pirateship.com just need to upload my documents since they are the ones that sold the label. They are refusing to do it for some reason and chat is the only way you can get ahold of them. They just keep giving me the same runaround stock answer. So I am out the money because of pirateship.com. They are cheap yes, but you get what you pay for apparently.

Whoa there. Hold up. I had an item sent through pirate ship that was damaged during shipping. Valued at $3200, it took about 2 weeks, some documents submitted but pirate ship worked with me on it and got me my money back. What are they asking you for? What is the runaround discourse you’re having with them?

I have a guy I buy from online that uses pirateship. They're legit. I can track it with my USPS app. Shows up in my mailbox every time.

I use pirateship it looks like such a suspicious bare bones site but it's legit, it does have auto fill features tho so could have gotten an address mix up potentially?
