Pixel Sortium v0.1.1 is now available for download (for free). Github Repository Installation Follow-Along Video Feature Walkthrough Video Documentation This is a first release so it does not have as many features as some of the more developed pixel sorting applications/CLIs but I am still releasing an early build for a few reasons. Features: It has a GUI: To use this application requires no knowledge of coding and no use of a command line. It should be accessible to anyone who wants to mess around with it. Video File Sorting: Pixel Sortium is the only free pixel sorting application (that I am aware of) that can easily apply the pixel sorting algorithm to video files and output a new video containing all the sorted frames. It's Fast: Since this program is written in c++ and leverages multithreading plus some fast optimized sorts included with the language it is significantly faster than some of the other applications I have tried. In a benchmark test I sorted a 1920x1080 image at a 45 degree angle with default brightness thresholds with the popular python CLI which took ~17 seconds. Pixel Sortium performed the same sort in 2.1 seconds (on my computer). Mask Drawing: Pixel Sortium features a (basic) mask drawing tool which allows the user to sketch out areas over the loaded image in the GUI which they want to be looked at by the sorting algorithm or ignored by the sorting algorithm. Limitations: This first build only runs on Windows 64-but OS. I was able to successfully compile on MacOS but the underlying code in OpenFrameworks that reads video files is different between Mac and Windows which broke video sorting in the Mac version. I am loking into how to modify the code to get it to work with the Mac Video Reader and on other alternative solution. But the plan is definitely to support Mac and Linux in the future. There will be bugs. I already know of one where the mask data gets offset from where it appears on screen which can be fixed by restarting the program. Please report any encountered bugs in the Issues section on Github The code is pretty ugly right now. I didn't know what the end goal was for this project so I just started coding and figuring it out while I went without planning anything out. Now I have a good idea of how to better structure the code and need to do some serious refactoring. In the future, pull requests from anyone who wants to help improve the application will be welcome. But for now its better to hold off until its in a cleaner state and I can document it. ---- And finally, I have found that I am much better at programming compared to visual art (despite my best efforts). So I am hoping to receive feedback from the more artistic minded people here for what features and enhancements would be best to improve the usability and workflow of this application.
