PlayStation Store "Mid-Year Deals" Sale Starts and Includes Titles That Don't Get Discounted Often
So much stuff gets discounted every sale, and there's so much trash in the PSN store I don't even check these big lists anymore, I just checked my wishlist. Anything pops up, like with this sale. MK1 DE was discounted to $30, I'll jump in. Otherwise? Fuck it. More on reddit.com

PlayStation Store “August Savings” Sale Kicks Off, Here Are the Discounts
A lot of DLCs and whatnot are discounted. Bunch of JRPGs as well. Didn't include in the list below since I haven't played any of them. Yakuza, Persona, etc are on sale, and a good number of Dark Pictures Anthology games too. Best deal is without a doubt Batman Arkham Coillection. RECOMMENDATIONS; UFC 5 Ultimate Edition (-45%, $54.99) - It's debatable whether the Ultimate Edition content is worth the extra dough (for me, it's not), but since the game's vanilla version isn't on sale, you'll have to contend with this one or wait for the regular version to be on sale. Gran Turismo 7 (-50%, $39.89) - For racing fans, definitely worth it. PS4 version is $10 cheaper, but the PS5 version has free PSVR2 support. Still gets monthly free content drops and support. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut (-58%, $29.39) - The PS4 only version is $10 cheaper, but even at $30, this is definitely worth a buy. Has some memorable side quests, great story, and has loads of stuff to do. I think I played this for over 65 hours and didn't feel burnt out. Dragon's Dogma 2 (-20%, $55.99) - Not really my cup of tea but loads of people like the franchise, and if you're waiting on a discount, here it is. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (-67%,, $16.49) - Who hasn't heard of Skyrim, right? Given we are years away from Elder Scrolls 6, this might be the perfect time to try the game at this price, and it's not as bug-filled as the PS4 version when it launched then. Persona 3 Reload (-35%, $45.49) - Persona fans will want to snatch this up, and there's even premium DLC on the way. Batman Arkham Collection (-90%, $5.99) - The best deal in the entire sale hands down. Three amazing Batman games for that price? This is the best superhero trilogy in gaming of all-time (yes, even better than Spider-Man). System Shock (-35%, $25.99) - Remake of the classic. Reviewed fairly well, and might be worth checking out at that price. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition (-75%, $12.49) - Definitely worth it at that price. Just be warned there is a lot of backtracking in this game, but if you wanted a Souls experience with Star Wars, then this is it. Minus points for Cal running around like he has poop in his pants, though. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (-75%, $14.99) - RPG done Dragon Ball style. If you're tired of Dragon Ball fighting games but want to experience the franchise's legendary narrative, then this is for you. Monster Hunter World (-50%, $9.99) - My fave Monster Hunter to date. Support for this has concluded, but there is a TON of stuff to go through. If you have friends who are wiling to play with you, then this is an insta-buy. Mechanics might take some getting used to, but it's a unique experience. Horizon Forbidden West (-34%, $34.59) - The sequel to Aloy's journey. Feels a bit bloated but it's still a solid third-person action game. Dragon Ball FighterZ (-84%, $9.59) - Made by the masters of 2D at Arc System Works. Balance is a little off, but this might be the closest thing to playing the anime as possible. God of War 3 Remastered (-50%, $9.99) - My fave God of War franchise entry, Loads of bombastic moments, and the boss fights here are a visual spectacle. Days Gone (-60%, $15.99) - Sony's other zombie game. Not as polished as Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, but it has way more zombies, and you can get creative in killing them off. Very fun to round them all up and just slaughter them. Bloodborne Complete Edition (-50%, $17.49) - Itching for another Souls adventure? If you haven't played this, then do it since Sony isn't going to remaster this anytime soon. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade (-62%, $15.19) - Definitely worth the price of admission. The base version is on sale for $14.99, but the Intergrade content for less than $1? Yeah, pick this one up instead. Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales (-57%, $30.09) - If you liked Marvel's Spider-Man, then get this before jumping into the sequel since this introduces Miles. Rarely goes on sale as well. Cult of the Lamb Heretic Edition (-50%, $17.49) - One of the most charming and different games out there. If you're looking for something different, then this might be it. Plus a major free update for new content was just released recently. Alan Wake Remastered (-67%, $9.89) - Not as good as Alan Wake 2, but still a solid horror game. Story is very intriguing, but don't expect anything groundbreaking since this is a remaster of an old game. Need for Speed Unbound Palace Edition (-80%, $15.99) - A not-so-serious take on the franchise. Still getting support, though it's colorful "modern" take on street racing culture might not be for everyone. Lies of P Deluxe Edition (-35%, $45.49) - Have not played this but friends are raving about it, and some are calling this the best Souls game outside of FromSoftware. Little Nightmares (-75%, $4.99) - Fantastic platformer with horror elements but not so scary that you'll want to avoid playing it alone. Perfect game to play with your SO or kids since you can take turns for each life. The Callisto Protocol (-75%, $17.49) - From the co-creator of Dead Space. This is a less polished version of it. Loads of patches helped make the game better, but don't expect Resident Evil quality here. Enemy variety is lacking, and this is strictly linear horror game. Battlefield V Definitive Edition (-85%, $7.49) - Way better than at launch. Still has a decent player base, but not as great as BF1 or the other Battlefield games. It does feature an old fashioned version of Operation Metro. Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition (-30%, $62.99) - Pricier than expected but includes access to premium story DLC. Still getting heavily supported, and just got a "raid" update that adds a whole new gameplay style to it. Outlast (-90%, $1.99) - Definitely worth the price. You can play a horror game that will last hours all for less than a price of a McDonal's meal. Not survival horror, but the kind where you constantly run and hide. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Lost Legacy Bundle (-70%, $11.99) - Definitely worth the price. Uncharted caps off Nathan Drake's adventures, while The Lost Legacy gives us Chloe's vantage point. If you haven't played the previous ones, I suggest playing those first. Streets of Rage 4 (-50%, $3.99) - Fans of old school beat-'em-ups, you will feel right at home with this one. It has modern game mechanics added so it doesn't feel stale. Fun co-op game as well. Alien Isolation (-70%, $8.99) - Horror game but in Alien coating. Not survival horror and has loads of tense moments. Play with headphones on. Saints Row (-75%, $7.49) - At that price, might be worth dipping into. Support seems to have ceased, and it doesn't really rejuvenate the franchise, but if you're curious and want an open-world game before GTA6, might want to give this a try. Sea of Stars (-35%, S22.74) - Surprise hit! Old school RPG with gorgeous sprite animations. Atomic Heart (-50%, $34.99) - Debut game from Mundfish. Not BioShock levels of quality, but has an interesting premise (more jank though). Beyond Two Souls (-60%, $11.99) - If you're a fan of Quantic Dreams' kind of games, then this is worth a shot. If you tried Heavy Rain and didn't like it, I doubt this will convert you. Think: Supermassive-style games. Outriders (-50%, $9.99) - Looter shooter that's NOT live service. Loads of builds to test, and if you can get a friend to party up, this is insanely fun. Very underrated. XCOM 2 (-95%, $2.99) - Solid strategy game and quite cheap. Not easy though, so be prepared to restart a bit. Heavy Rain (-60%, $11.99) - My favorite game from Quantic, the gameplay style fits right in with the serial killer storyline. Resident Evil 2 (-75%, $12.49) - This is my favorite Resident Evil remake, and you get to play it twice because of Leon and Claire's stories. Loads of stuff changed including jumpscares, even bits of the story. Worth as an impulse buy. Resident Evil 2 and RE3 Raccoon City Edition (-75%, $14.99) - RE3 as an add-on to RE2 is fine given how short the game is. Note that I can't seem to open this on PSN. Death Stranding Deluxe Edition - (60%, $19.99) - Kojima's walking simulator. Play it before the sequel. Mirror's Edge Catalyst (-75%m $4.99) - Faith's last adventure. Don't play if you get dizzy easy since there's a lot of first-person platforming and jumping. Hazelight Bundle: It Takes Two and A Way Out (-67%, $19.79) - If you have someone to co-op with then go snatch this bundle up. If not, then don't since this is purely a co-op game. Deathloop (-80%, $15.99) - Arkane's time-bending shooter. Not a bad deal at that price. Resident Evil 7 and Village Gold Edition (-63%, $29.59) - Includes the Winters Expansion for RE8. Not a bad deal since this starts and concludes Ethan Winters' story in the RE universe. Medium (-50%, $24.99) - Made by Bloober Team. and not the most exciting horror game but different. LOTR: Gollum (-80%, $13.99) - Still not worth it at that price. Worth a buy to your friend as a gift and force them to play it to see the jank. LOL! More on reddit.com

When are the best PS Plus deals usually available?
The best (and pretty much only) way to save on a PS Plus subscription is to take advantage of the direct discounts from Sony, but these typically only happen a few times a year. They usually fall during major shopping events like Black Friday in November and holiday sales in December and January, as well as Sony's Days of Play sale in early summer. Also note that some of the deals are exclusive to new subscribers.

Is a PlayStation Plus subscription required?
A Plus subscription is not a requirement for PlayStation gamers, and there are hundreds of titles you can play without one. However, you will need a membership if you want to participate in online multiplayer. Access to online play is included in all tiers, starting at $10 a month for an Essential membership.

Which PlayStation Plus tier is the best value?
At $15 a month, $40 for three months or $135 for a year, a midtier PlayStation Plus Extra subscription will give you the most bang for your buck. At this tier, you get access to a massive library of over 400 free games, including plenty of popular games like Red Dead Redemption 2, which makes it easy to get your money's worth. Unless you're a big fan of retro games, then it's probably not worth upgrading to the Premium tier.
