What are the people around you wearing? More of a formal business dress thing or a little more casual? I ask, because you know, kind of fitting into the office culture is important, too. I'm the same size. :) When working in an office, I liked dresses with dark or bold tights and boots or flats, some blazers or interesting jackets with jeans (if you can get away with them) or trousers. I have an absolute love/hate relationship with dress pants, but my school (I’m a teacher) has a very strict dress code policy. I also run into the problem that while I am not plus size, I have a small waist and large hips and butts. I have pants from size 6 to 12 in jeans and casual pants but dress pants are made by the devil it seems and I can’t find a flattering pair anywhere. Is there anywhere you recommend for pants that give a little bit more room in the butt, but don’t have to be taken in at the waist? Thanks in advance!

For reference I have a 14-15 inch difference between my waist and hips, long torso, short legs. It is definitely possible to find something you dont need to tailor, but it may take trying a few styles. Generally, wide leg styles will work well bc there is more room in the hip and thigh than straight or skinny cuts. Look for high waisted cuts and size for your waist. I have the Lila pants from Dynamite, as an example, and they are amazing, fit my waist while skimming my hips. Very 80s vibe but I like that. Many articles and such will recommend no pleats or pockets but I think they can be fine as long as there is enough fabric to accommodate. For slim and skinny cuts its a bit trickier. RW&Co carries curvy fit dress pants, but I have tried them in skinny and straight cuts, and they were tight in the hips and thighs but stood out about two inches from my waist. If you have an 11-12 inch difference they'd probably be quite good. So, I’m neurodivergent and find a lot of the cheaper polyester plasticy fabrics to be a huge distraction when I wear them. So, for the past decade I’ve been living wearing Lands End sports knit pants. I’ve tried to find alternatives now that they changed the pockets to be shallow, but I keep having issues finding something I can tolerate.
Anyone have favorites to recommend?
Here’s what I’m hoping to find:
Breathable fabric with a little give, similar to knit or cotton.
Doesn’t make thwip thwip thwip sounds from thigh rub while walking
Machine washable
Fully covers butt without gaping at the back.
Pockets deep enough for a cell phone like an iPhone.

I'm looking at trying Universal Standard next. Torrid pockets have not worked as well for me as Duluth, but they have more variety in 3X. I wear Duluth leggings almost every day and I'm wearing a pair from their AKHG line right now. Love the pockets, fabric is sturdy and holds up. I've tried two Duluth pants with the standard zip front - the pockets weren't as good as the leggings. One pair was a little noisy - a quick dry type fabric - Dry on the Fly. The other pair might have been the Flexpedition? I have 5 pairs of their leggings, all with good phone pockets. Two pairs of lightweight joggers that I like better than the standard zip pants. The joggers & standards pockets are okay but not great. The Duluth Namastash are highly rated with a thicker knit but didn't work for me. You might find their pants in their armachillo fabric a little slippery compared to cottons or rayon blends. My daughter in law loves Eloqui. Edited to add: read the washing instructions before ordering Torrid - many of their rayon blends are cold wash gentle and drip / line dry.
