I’m in California (albeit not SoCal) and I’m a young adult. The only stores I recognized that you mentioned are Zara (pretty popular store) and American Eagle (meh people shop there but it’s prime was maybe 15 years ago). A lot of people go to thrift stores. Uniqlo and H&M are pretty popular. General brands like Nike, Adidas, etc are popular are well. There also department stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Answer from omg_its_drh on reddit.com

Where is your favorite area/street to shop in LA?
if you’re looking for great deals on second hand designer it’s Melrose or bust. Start at TheRealReal and start going east. First stop at Buffalo Exchange then go to 2nd Street, then American Vintage, and then Wasteland. Then cross the street from Wasteland and go to Crossroads. Bonus points if you continue east to La Brea, then go north to Jet Rag or south to American Rag Cie. Each of these stores is filled with tons of awesome pieces for all kinds of budgets — with TheRealReal being the most expensive. Moreover if you’re walking there is just about every brand, and type of clothing available along the way … but to me these stores are the standouts. More on reddit.com

Hi, I am moving to Southern California in a few days, and I am wondering which middle-class fashion stores are most popular in the US and California? In my country, popular stores included Zara, American Eagle, LC Waikiki, Splash, Max, etc. Usually, a T-shirt in these stores doesn't exceed 20-30 USD, so I am searching for similar stores in the US. I already know that American Eagle and Zara are in the US as well, but I am searching for more options.

THE 15 BEST California Department Stores (2026) - Tripadvisor
I went to four stores Walmart, Ross for less, five below and dollar tree. I could tell Ross for less the time I checked, the register, the cashier, the cashier next to her and it was still in the bag I bought from them to carry the clothes. Every store except for Ross for less returned my money I talk corporate and they gave me a store and some of the items were discontinued because I couldn't show a receipt.
