Porcelain vs Ceramic tile in the shower?

Porcelain is ceramic. What you want to avoid is porous tiles. Most glazed tiles are suitable for wet areas. More glossy is slippery but that can happen with porcelain, also. Standard wall tile is a bisque body -porous- but is glazed before firing so fine for wet areas. Modern tile bodies are less porous probably, but unless you’re installing outside, no worries. Proper porcelain -and there is improper porcelain- is very low porosity. The body material is fired at a very high heat so it fuses into a glass like state, so suitable for exterior use. There are a number of attractive properties to porcelain; glazed or unglazed, cleft or rough face, matte face, or glossy like marble. It’s also as tough a nails, as in being less vulnerable to scratching. But lower fired, glazed products can look great, too. And unglazed quarry tile has its applications. Shower floor tile: marble vs porcelain

The correct method for building and waterproofing the pan along with modern high quality sealants can alleviate most of the maintenance issues with a marble tile shower. Full mud slope, with the waterproofing beneath the mud slope is not advised. Such installs can result in the mud slope remaining damp most of the time. Marble is a fairly porous stone. The combination can result in perpetual mildew. But a modern sheet membrane system or liquid applied membrane over the mud slope mostly eliminates that issue. Good quality sealant formulated for stone or specifically for marble takes care of the rest. But you should expect to reseal about every five years to avoid problems. More on reddit.com

Mixture of porcelain and glass in a shower

i have never used special glass thin set or special glass grout. as long as you use really good regular thin set, not that 10 dollar a bag stuff, your more than fine to set some glass liners. same for grout, no need to buy special glass grout just for the glass liner
