I’m headed out to finish the AT and last time I bought a power bank was two years ago for the JMT. I have one last Amazon order to put in since I can’t find my long-handled spoon and tiny Opinel knife.
Item: Any recent experience with any one of the plethora of medium-size battery bank options on Amazon recently OTHER than those listed by u/ormagon_8 on the spreadsheet of power banks compared in 2022 ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-AL_bU5yGwcGXiqpIQ8qeoi4_XGkkug8HGxDbnnkkQc/edit?usp=sharing ) ? Many are not available on Amazon, and I know Anker and Nitecore are commonly seen as ultralighters faves. They also lack integrated cords and plugs, which might be nice for this trip.
Budget: $45
Need by date: ordering on Amazon in the next 24 hours
Baseweight: IDK, like 12#? Not sure because I have not yet gotten to carry my base weight on trail :( All in I'm often around 16-18 I believe Location/s of use: Appalachian Trail from NY to VT
Season/s of use: all
Expected temperatures: mild
Ideal weight of the item: 8 oz. or less (I'd rather save money and extra items than weight, I carry a bear can). I cut my ounces in the big 3 so weight/convenience trade offs are fully acceptable.
Previous hiking experience: About 1500 miles of the AT, JMT
Previous experience with ultralight gear: I have UL big 3
Additional Information: I’ve only got 468 miles to go. I’ve got to pick up dog food and medications so I’ll be in towns typically every 3-5 days. I listen to a lot of podcasts and books but keep my phone on airplane mode for all but a couple hours a day.
The market is oversaturated with temu and resellers. I'd like to cut through the fluff and find the reliable brands that might also be cheaper than the big names like Anker etc
