I feel like PB has always been overpriced for what you get - they were so popular when I bought my house years ago. I did buy a couple things there but was not impressed. I bought one of those entry storage combos that was so popular. It did not last. It was always branding, not quality. Once you use Google Lens, you figure out there aren't that many really solid manufacturers. Just wildly inflated prices from site to site. Really expensive but worth the money --- Room and Board. Everything I have bought there is high quality and the service impeccable. Also Lamps Plus for lamps is the best. Always happy with their stuff - more expensive but again, quality. Sometimes I find a lamp there and find it a bit cheaper but then I know its good quality. More on reddit.com

I would think teenagers would have an idea of the styles they were interested in. Depending on their preferences you could try Wayfair, Target, or similar big box stores for decor and side pieces. For a bed and a desk I would spend a little more and try Ikea or a local furniture store. Something to consider is if they are going to be moving out any time soon. If not, spend a little more and consider more basic furniture that can change with their tastes. If yes, consider whether they can take it with them, some metal beds can be easily disassembled. If you want to repurpose their room, maybe it's worth going all out on style and personality now, knowing it's not permanent. More on reddit.com

Pottery Barn white labels a lot of furniture. And it's not clear what is their own design stuff, and what is just mass market. However, if you read the descriptions, the stuff made from solid wood is usually nice. But they do have a fair amount of mdf stuff now. More on reddit.com
