I bought the LoveShackFancy Ruffle Bow Quilt from pbteen.ca in May 2023 for $404 CAD. I’ve been using it since then and treated it gently. I never noticed anything wrong until today, after I took it out of the washer and saw some black specks along one of the edges.
Worried it might be bugs or mold, I carefully opened up part of the seam to check the inside of the quilt. I was absolutely horrified to find that the entire interior is filled with black particles and sand-like debris embedded in the synthetic fiber fill. This isn’t surface dirt. These bits are inside the batting, which means it was manufactured like this.
For context, I mostly live on campus at school. My room is clean, I don’t have any bug infestations, and the windows and doors stay closed when I’m not home. There’s no way this was caused by my living conditions.
I contacted Pottery Barn customer service, thinking this was clearly a defect. They told me they only accept complaints within 30 days of purchase and implied that I should have inspected the inside of the quilt when I received it. Honestly, who would ever rip open a brand new $400 quilt just to make sure the inside is clean?
Now I’m stuck with an expensive quilt that looks pretty on the outside but is full of hidden dirt and sand. I can’t use it anymore and they refuse to take responsibility.
Sharing this so others can be warned. Just because something looks clean and high-end on the surface doesn’t mean it actually is.
