r/fishshell on Reddit: Powerlevel10k for fish shell?
January 2, 2021 -

I don't know if this is the right place to ask. I apologize if it isn't. I have used a theme that is similar to powerlevel10k on fish shell, like a copy of it similar, but I forgot the name of it after I had to reinstall my manjaro install. It even had the same terminal command that would run me through a configuration wizard in cli to choose certain looks. Now, I've searched a lot on the internet and I can't seem to find it. Everytime I search, I'd find the oh my fish themes on github. The closest one to it is agnoster, but it doesn't have that "configuration wizard" so I can change the looks (or maybe I can't figure it out). Also, I don't think powerlevel10k supports fish, it is made to work with zsh. Anyone knows that similar theme (or anything that works the same as powerlevel10k)? I'd appreciate any answers in advance. Thank you.

Possible to emulate fish alt-left and alt-right with updating of directory in prompt?
Is it possible to write a zsh binding that would change the current directory and then update the p10k directory element without having to add a new line to the screen (like accept-line does)? I... More on github.com

Starship or powerlevel10k
Disclaimer: I made powerlevel10k. Pros of Starship: Works in many shells. You can configure prompt once and have it in bash, fish and zsh. Great documentation. Fairly straightforward configuration. Written in Rust. Pros of powerlevel10k: More features: Transient Prompt, Instant Prompt, Show on Command, etc. Can be configured with a wizard. Much faster. I'm biased of course but when it comes to zsh prompt I honestly think that powerlevel10k isn't just better than starship but in a different league altogether. It can do everything starship can, plus a lot more, and a lot faster. The biggest downside of powerlevel10k IMO is the documentation. If the wizard doesn't have an option for the prompt you want, manually modifying the config can be daunting for the uninitiated. You can configure powerlevel10k to do virtually anything but it's difficult to find out how. More on reddit.com

Powerlevel10k - Earthly Blog
October 6, 2023 - Powerlevel10k and Starship are both powerful. Starship works with many shell, while Powerlevel only works with ZSH, so that is the first reasons to exclude it. If you want a common prompt across Bash ZSH, Fish shell and ZSH, Starship is the one you want.

The fish shell is amazing - Paul Mairo
November 8, 2021 - To be honest, I didn’t find them super useful because the only plugin I use is the starship prompt and it’s available in the Fedora repo anyway. For those interested, here is a comparison between fisher, omf and fundle it might be a bit biased since it’s by fisher’s author. But those seemed to me like valid points. I used oh-my-zsh with powerlevel10k because it’s very fast.

Other Zsh themes capable of displaying the same information either produce prompt lag or print prompt that doesn't reflect the current state of the system and then refresh it later. With Powerlevel10k you get fast prompt and up-to-date information.

I love zsh I' ve been using the shell for a long time and my favorite theme is powerlevel10k. It was great and all but I wanted something different something less of a hassle to configure and has autosuggestions and syntax highlighting built in. Then comes Fish.

June 30, 2021 - I really like the syntax coloring that comes with Fish, you can have similar syntax coloring on ZSH using the zsh-syntax-highlighting plugin. It enables the highlighting of commands whilst they are typed at a zsh prompt into an interactive terminal.

Possible to emulate fish alt-left and alt-right with updating of directory in prompt? · Issue #663 · romkatv/powerlevel10k
April 26, 2020 - Based on what I scanned from prior issues, it sounds like this would not be possible with p10k as it looks like you recommended the use of accept-line, but I wanted to confirm. I suppose using accept-line would not be terrible, just not as nice as the fish implementation I'm accustomed to.

Using the Instant Prompt without `p10k` · romkatv/powerlevel10k · Discussion #2607
Powerlevel10k does the same thing as Starship -- it sets your prompt. The advantage of Starship is that you can use it with Bash and Fish (Powerlevel10k is only for Zsh). The advantage of Powerlevel10k is that it's much faster and has more features.
