I am a homeowner who is having my GC do all the interior painting after a whole house renovation post-flood. I have decided to buy the door and trim paint myself since he is very loyal to Behr. I have 3 large and sometimes rambunctious dogs and I need a high quality trim paint. I just don't think Behr will hold up. After doing a lot of online research, I've decided to go with PPG Break-through. Anyway, a gallon of Break-through is "only" $57/gallon at Home Depot. At the freestanding PPG store, it was over $100/gallon. What justifies the price difference? It appears to be the exact same product.
Noob painter here. I heard on another subReddit forum that alkyd based paints will yellow over time. I was planning to use Benjamin Moore Advance cabinet and trim paint, but am having 2nd thoughts now. My 2nd choice is Sherwin Williams Emerald urethane cabinet paint. Any pros/cons from the pro’s on either one of these? I plan to spray the doors and drawers. TIA
Having my kitchen painted by a guy. I had all new doors and drawers made by another person, but painting the existing boxes. They are old stained but in good shape. I originally picked sherwin Williams emerald urethane paint. Today he said that he was going to use sherwin Williams fast dry alkyd semi gloss enamel paint. But he also said he didn’t need to prime the existing boxes that are stained. That goes against anything I’ve ever heard. Not to need primer over stained older wood. Won’t the tannins leak through? My husband said I argued with him but I just questioned the need for primer. Does this painter need to use primer and which paint is better to use on cabinets? Please advise.
One of the painters I contacted told me and was in fact wearing a shirt that says PPG paints.
I had not heard of this brand before, though I now know Home Depot carries it. PPG is not listed by Consumer Reports 2023 nor JD Powers
I found this on youtube

I googled PPG paints and I can see they have a website. Its not clear to me what their high end paints are.
https://www.ppgpaints.com/
he told me that receives very high contractor discounts from PPG and that their
PPG PERMANIZER® Exterior Acrylic Latex
is better than Sherwin Williams A100, and if I wanted Emerald, I would have to pay an additional $1000 for Emerald, but that PPG is just as good as Emerald.
So in a nutshell, he wears a shirt that says PPG paint, told me he is a contractor for them and gets major discounts, he would if the customer requests use Sherwin Williams but at a much higher price, and PPG paint is just as good as Emerald. The price he wants was $7000, including wood rot repair, but if I wanted Emerald he'd ask for $8000
Need to repaint my store's stockroom floor for the year and no Benjamin Moore near us. Need something similar and need it in safety yellow too. I have an additive for anti-slip already also.
I always buy mid/high paint. I was looking at PPG Prominence or SW Duration. I can buy PPG or Sherwin at contractor's rate.
Any reason to choose one vs the other except for price?
Is PPG paint at Home Depot the same as a real PPG store?
