r/homelab on Reddit: SuperMicro board stopped working (Pre-memory SB Initialization 19, 0x55 Memory Not Installed?)
May 23, 2019 -

I purchased a used SuperMicro X11SSZ-TLN4F a few weeks ago from eBay and finally set everything up and it worked great for a week but yesterday the server locked up (but the BMC/IPMI still worked).

During boot it now shows:

Pre-memory SB initialization... 19

Usually it will freeze there, but so far (twice) it also displayed:

0x55 Memory No

(which I think is cut-off, and 0x55 appears to be Memory Not Installed).

It's odd that it worked for a week and suddenly stopped working. I've ordered new memory to see if that is the problem but it seems strange? Has this happened to anybody else before?

To cover the ground you already have and looking at the board documentation, it would suggest that 'Pre-memory SB initialization...' (Pre-memory South Bridge initialisaion..) has a progress code of 0x19. So that seems OK. Then you have your '0x55 Memory No' which would match the PEI Error Code 0x55 - Memory not installed. So I think you are on the right track. If it were me, I'd pull everything pluggable (cards, storage etc..) all the memory and install a known good stick (and check its seated properly), or cycle through the sticks you do have (one at a time..) to see if you can get past the error, and then add things back in until it fails again (or not, happens sometimes..). It's odd that it worked for a week and suddenly stopped working. I've ordered new memory to see if that is the problem but it seems strange? Has this happened to anybody else before? Everything can fail, I've certainly had failed RAM in various boxes at various points, if anything it tends to be a nice failure (because its a swappable component that fails obviously, rather than something with data on, or something that creates odd hard to repeat issues, heat stress issues are a right bastard). It's also fairly common. Of course if you replace the RAM and you still have a problem then its likely there is an issue with the board itself and that it's an issue that you can't fix (at least if compressed air doesn't solve it). So, hope its the RAM, it almost certainly is, and yes, it can just happen.

I had a SM board do something similar except it was something about the USB headers being fucked. I was basically dead in the water, SM support said GG the board is done for. Thankfully I kept looking into it and it turns out that SM IPMI can re-flash the bios (At least for my particular model) Do you have access to your IPMI page? If so i can walk you through how to hopefully bring it back to life.

r/buildapc on Reddit: OEM pre-memory installation code
April 5, 2022 -

I am trying to boot my pc build for the first time and it keeps sitting at these codes in the 20s. I looked it up and as the title says the code corresponds to “OEM pre-memory installation” error. I have tried switching around my memory which is 4 x 32gb ddr5 and tried each of them individually. This ram has leds which all light up perfectly but I am still getting this error. I have an msi unify z690 board.

The fans and everything else seems to be working. I tired plugging the power cables back in again but still nothing changed.

Any thoughts as to what I could be doing wrong?

r/servers on Reddit: Server Booting Stuck at Memory Initialization Stage
November 10, 2017 -

So I have a Lenovo RD450 and I shut it down the previous night, I turned it on the next day, and it refuses to go past the memory initialization stage, how can this be resolved please?

Note: It is shut down everyday due to lack of constant power supply , and pressing the power button does not shut it off.

Someone suggested that I perform a cold reset to remove power from the RAM by unplugging the power cable and pressing the power button for fifteen seconds then plugging it back and starting the server.

PLEASE I NEED HELP , I DONT WANT TO GET FIRED !!!

Z87X OC Code 15: Pre-memory North-Bridge initialization is started. | Overclock.net
Whenever I'm working on a memory OC and it goes unstable, 15 is one of the codes I see a lot. You said it boots if you completely reset the BIOS? If you leave everything on default and restart, will it fail to boot or will it work at that point? If this is the case, it sounds like there's a setting you're inadvertently changing or making too tight which is preventing the boot.

Error code "19" then reboot before post | Tom's Hardware Forum
August 24, 2012 - After that I have to do a hard restart for it to do anything, and then it's fine again. I looked in my motherboard manual and apparently this means "Pre-memory PCH initialization has started." The thing is, it doesn't happen every time, and it's completely random on when it decides to do this for some reason.

r/AMDHelp on Reddit: EXPO delays boot up by 1min with "Pre-memory System Agent initialization is started" but works fine after boot
October 4, 2023 -

New to AMD so not sure if this is a faulty Motherboard, RAM or just DDR5 experience since it's new

Without EXPO - My computer boots up normally and without delay

However, when I enable EXPO, and boot her up. The computer will go to code 15 ( book says - Pre-memory System Agent initialization is started). It will stay at this code for approx 1 minute before the computer boots up as normal.

Once booted to desktop, I check cpuz - and the RAM is running at EXPO frequency and timings without issue. No other issues with the computer once it's booted, have stressed tested multiple times.

Photo in comments (if allowed). When in code 15, RAM and CPU EZbug led light (Red CPU and yellow RAM), lights up during this phase before they turn off after the minute and computer boots up normal
