I purchased my very first vehicle on May 22nd and I still haven’t received my license plate in the mail. My temporary registration and plate expired on July 6th. I’ve contacted the salesman who sold me the car, as well as called the dealership where I had to leave a voicemail. I bought it at a major dealership and thought I was told that they handle all of that, but now I’m starting to feel like I was supposed to do something in the meantime? Did I miss a step due to never having done this before? Is there something I should do at this point? It’s increasingly making me nervous to drive with expired plates and I just genuinely am unsure of the severity of this. I’ve tried googling but I feel like I can’t get a straight answer. I’ve read everything from “your car will be impounded” to “cops will shrug it off as DMV delay.”
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the suggestions, sharing your own experiences and giving me some peace of mind. After logging onto the ADOT MVD website I was able to see the status of my license plate which assured that it is on it’s way to me. I printed my temporary plate until it arrives.
My temp IL license expired and they sent me a pdf for a new tag. They sent me one from ADOT (which I assume is Arizona. So is it okay to get a cover for it and put it on my car? It feels weird since I don't see anyone else driving with these plates.
This was taken yesterday. What’s the point of even registering your car if you can just drive around with a temp plate
