It's not an Amazon return. I got a pdf file from the site I'm returning to but I also just realized UPS emailed me a barcode, not a QR code. It says "Your returns label is available to print or scan" then under it has the tracking number. Then in small print under it says "Print your label at home, or bring this barcode to a UPS location we'll print it for you." Then under that is a yellow button link "Get your shipping label" then under that is another small link "Find a location to scan your barcode." Then under that is the barcode.
I googled and it says it's free for QR or barcode. Is this true for all the UPS stores? And I want to know why it's free for that but without it, it's supposedly not free? Is there a reason?

Yes, if the barcode you have leads to a printable shipping label when we scan it, it's free. Printing the PDF for you isn't free, because printing costs money.

QR codes will generate the label for us and we're able to print them off on a thermal printer. If you need a shipping label printed off(pdf), that means we need to use our big boy printer which uses toner and paper, which we pay for and in turn charge for using them. Just like any store, we charge for our products and services.

Has anyone had success printing out UPS labels using QR codes? I’ve tried using the instructions we have printed out, but it seems like it still wants me to scan a barcode still. Do we actually have the function yet to print labels through QR codes?
I feel so bad having to tell people to go to the UPS store still after even the announcement says we can print labels.

We can take ups barcodes but no qr codes. Idk exactly how that works since I haven’t done one like that yet.

From my understanding, we can’t use the QR codes, customers have to bring in the packages with their own printed label. I mean if they scan the qr at home and print it then bring it in we can take it. But I always just said it need to have a label printed and bring it in with them at minimum, we’re access point not UPS store. But then again I haven’t worked at Michaels in like a month now so idk

They can scan it from your phone but then you need a physical one attached to the box. There are 2 different returns QR codes get scanned and the item is then grouped into one big box until that box is full/weighs around 40lbs then sealed and shipped off as a bulk return so each item doesn’t get an Individual tracking/label it’s just one label. Now if you have a full label they can scan it off the phone but if you don’t have it already printed and attached to the box then they would need to print one and Amazon does not cover any cost associated with this method (unlike with the QR code method where they literally get billed for the box and label and all cost associated to ship the bulk return to them) so you have to have the box sealed and label printed and taped on when dropping it off otherwise anything associated with using any material will be charged (taped for the box?,label needing printing?,need a box for the return?) amazon only pays for the cost of shipping no materials as that is the customers responsibility.
