I've mainly played 1.7 and 1.12 modpacks, and I am ready to play something on a newer version. I want to play with Create and the standard tech mods like AE2, I've noticed addons like Create new age that integrate electricity with create, but I am having trouble finding a progression modpack that integrates these mods together effectively via recipes and quests for example. Just curious if there are any good ones that exist yet.
I have yet to fully dive into Create, my only real expeirence being some minor tinkering in FTB University 1.16. But lately I've been playing SevTech Ages and absolutely love the progression, I'm about 10 hours in and playing it nice and slow, setting up a big farm and stable and a little village.
I'm wondering if there are any modpacks with this slow progression style centered around Create though, as I feel they would really work well together. Is there anything like that out there?
I struggle with picking on what to do next in video games especially Minecraft due to the only resource being constantly needed being food, so I never feel like I know what needs to be done next while I do like solving puzzles and figuring out stuff.
Is there a complete guide on recommended machines to build or at least where to start? I have tried to get into create multiple times but each time I just never know what to do next.
I am sorry if this is a common question this mod seems amazing and I want to enjoy it too, is there possibly a modpack that does this too? I saw the create above and beyond modpack but my computer might not be able to run it and It also calls itself a "challenge pack" when I know very little about the mod. But I believe it has quests and such to help guide the player.
Thanks!
I had a Create: Above and Beyond server with a friend a couple years ago. I loved the progression system it had during that playthrough. For me, I struggle to just build for the sake of building, so having that sense of progression in Create Above and Beyond really helped me build with a feeling of purpose. Each building we made was helping progress us through the modpacks, being different automated farms and factories for the different items we needed.
Are there any more modpacks like above and beyond that are like this? I'm looking for one not 100% focused on automation, just some sort progression and maybe exploration and bosses?
Title says it really, running 5gb of ram on the server if that matters, don’t really mind what version, would prefer newer updates but not needed, doesn’t need to be solely focused on create, but want a way to experience create with my friends with a small helping hand, and not have to watch videos before hand, just ideas of what we are aiming towards
The first progression pack I ever played was Exoria (loved it) and the second was SevTech (loved it.) Since then, I've been in search (as I believe many of us have) for similar progression packs, and have thoughts on how future progression packs can be done RIGHT, and how they can be done WRONG. Here they are:
- Quests
First of all, for my tastes at least, if you don't have quests, don't bother. I believe progression CAN be done without quests, but I think only the most determined and hardcore would be retained with a pack that has true progression, but no quests.
- What is "progression?"
For me, progression involves a set of steps that you absolutely MUST move through. Not that you CAN move through, but that you MUST move through. If you CAN skip a mod entirely, then it is simply not part of the progression. This is completely fine, as many mods are for appearance, mapping, quality of life, etc. Just keep in mind that any feature/item/technology that CAN be skipped is not part of progression.
- Make progression REWARDING
Sevtech did this really great, as did Exoria, requiring you to use (for example) those awful chests, or making leather one piece at a time with water bladders, or whatever. When you got to upgraded chests and leather-making, hoo boy was it a treat!
- It's OK to make me suffer
Related to the rewarding, if I progress EXTREMELY quickly past some piece of technology, or rather if something exists SIMPLY for me to move to the next thing, then you're not doing progression properly. Something that I must progress PAST, it's only worth progressing past if it had to play a part of my life for a decent amount of time. If I unlock a power generation technology (or cable, or pipe, or chest, or whatever) that is inferior, it wasn't really meaningful if I only had to use it simply to get the next best thing. It's OK to make me suffer with it for a little while.
- Your critical progression path MUST be the main bulk of your quests.
It's certainly OK to have "side quests" that don't have much progression, but they should:
-
Be progressively unlocked by your main quest (i.e. not ALL available up front)
-
Play only minor / supportive roles in the whole pack - if your pack has 300 quests and 250 of them are side quests, this is not a progression pack; this is simply a guided tour of mods.
- BOOKS!
Please, for the love of God, do not start me with a zillion books in my inventory! PROGRESS me to them. Remember the PROGRESSION pack you were supposedly designing?
CONCLUSION
True progression is about taking all these things and doing them RIGHT. There's only gonna be a few types of people playing modded Minecraft:
- Bitter, jaded people like me: I really don't need 65 quests on how to do Create or Botania again JUST to learn about their features. If you want to do that, make them a part of your pack's progression!
- Brand new people: who are going to be absolutely overwhelmed if you present them with a ton of options upfront (even if they're not all accomplishable right away) and don't hold their hand every step of the way. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paradox_of_Choice " The paradox of choice is that the diversity of our choices cause us stress and, ultimately, a feeling of trapped unhappiness.")
I suppose there are NON bitter, jaded people who might like your non-progression "progression pack" but, well, they're not writing this post, are they?
Tell me where you think I'm right, where you think I'm wrong. I'm down!
I been playing a lot of packs and ALL of them are just mods put toguether without any line of progression that makes them feel really well made, and all of them have the boring I SPENT 100 DAYS ON videos on their description.
Nowadays modpacks were fun to play and the progression with all the crafting recipes unified from different mods was orgasmic to play and now you can be op like in 1 hour playing a random modpack and it makes it really boring i feel like i dont have anything to play for, i know its a sandbox, you make your own rules but i miss those well made modpacks. Is there any modpack like this for latest versions?
Me and my friend are playing through Sevtech Ages again. And are in age 4 getting started for the trip to the moon. Both her and I have said we'd love to see a Sevtech Ages Pack for 1.20 sometime in the future. Personally I like packs with a clear quest system / goals. Where you end up dipping into a lot of different mods. While there are a few packs we enjoy for 1.12.2. We'd like to try something in newer versions. (Honestly, like 1.16 or newer would be nice)
Some of the modpacks we enjoyed the most, played the most. Sevtech ages, Stone Block 2, Vault Hunters 3rd edition, Project Ozone 3 (Though my friend lags too much for us to really play it much). We've tried many different skyblock based modpacks for 1.12.2. But none have really kept our attention for long. We've also played a few pixelmon mod-packs. But honestly, those don't tend to last even a day with us.
I'm thinking playing Sevtech Ages of the Sky sometime could be fun. But doing so, so soon after finishing the Sevtech mod-pack. Doesn't seem like it'd hold my interest very long.
Preferably a Progression style mod-pack. Playing through something with a newer version of Twilight Forest in it would be fun. I like both Tech and Magic mods. My friend likes to dig big holes. Something with interesting mods you don't normally get to use or see would be fun as well. (I enjoy the processes of learning new things, and figuring out how to put things to use).
Any suggestions?
