As a result, a PPM might need to make a difficult decision to sunset one project and accelerate another, all while continuously steering the portfolio in the right direction. Their role also involves balancing risk and reward. Project portfolio management means selecting, prioritizing, and controlling an organization’s projects and programs.

I was searching the thread for something like this as well. Is it common to have a PM Portfolio? If so, what goes in it besides project descriptions, etc. that may go on a project Curriculum Vitae or other resume? More on reddit.com

What is normally included in a PM portfolio?
Start with the basics: Get a piece of paper for every “project” you have worked or wish to include in the portfolio Write the name of each project across the top and make sure to give each their own Fold the paper into 3 sections, label each section “Cost”, “Technical”, “Schedule” Write down everything that you can think of and know as it pertains to each section of each project This is what is called the PM triangle. After you have this filled out, it becomes very easy to pick out what really constitutes as strong candidates for a portfolio. Write a one pager or project summary for each. It’s difficult if you don’t have 3 sides of the triangle but not impossible; at minimum show how you were responsible for 2 sides. Example: project is to create a new business website Cost = hours or dollars used to do this, hours for labor and dollars for subcontract or software Schedule = how you defined requirements, built a plan to fulfill those requirements, tested that it met requirements and worked reliably, implemented the website, and shows users Technical = how you came up with requirements, how you proved you met requirements The one pager would go through this plus more, it should also show measurable impact when you are done. This should be in dollars. More on reddit.com

I was recently asked to provide a project portfolio in addition to my CV and motivation letter for a particular job application. I am not sure what specifics should go into the portfolio, what the format should be, whether to use a Word Doc. or PowerPoint, whether to include sample documents from past projects, etc.
