The cable have a PL2303 chip the driver considers counterfeit. The chip could be genuine though, just old - an older revision of PL2303 was cloned by a third party and Prolific have began their uphill battle with clones (and, AFAIK, their own older products). An older, circa 2008, driver will help - from my first-hand experience, it works without any problems, but once Windows had a newer driver, it will use the newer driver by default after each reboot (but keep the driver you've selected when the cable is replugged to the same port until rebooted). The problem is quite common, so a search for "pl2303 old driver" will get you there. 3.3.2.105 is a "known good" version of the driver. But if you've just bought the cable and still within the return timeframe, just return it - it's not your fight. More on reddit.com
