delta will fail when your counter will be reset (when it will start counting from 0 again), while increase/rate will detect that and adjust result accordingly. So with:

t0: 5
t1: 11
t2: 28
t3: 4
t4: 40

with delta you'll probably get 40 - 5 = 35, while increase will probably calculate something similar to (28-5)+40 = 63

delta acts on histogram samples by calculating a new histogram where each component (sum and count of observations, buckets) is the difference between the respective component in the first and last native histogram in v.

NLT Prometheus Delta Custom with Nichia 519A
Been lurking here for a while. Truly appreciate all I've learned from y'all (I've embraced warmer higher CRI lights). After EDCing a Beta QRv2 for a few weeks I decided to pull the trigger (click the switch?) on a Delta Custom with Nichia 519As, glow board, and medium optic. This thing is slick! The machining is fantastic and the threads are so, so smooth. Programming is a bit overwhelming at first. I settled on .04%, 1.5%, 17%, 50%, with 35% strobe on the double click. (Somehow I find myself happening upon car wrecks and directing traffic a few times a year) Did I pay too much? Probably. Is it more light than I need? Yup (I mean, I'm using 50% as high). But I am happy to pay for a light that is overbuilt and overengineered, should last a long, long time, that was made in the US, and that has components that can be replaced or upgraded. Querying basics | Prometheus
Because of their independence, Prometheus needs to assign a value at those timestamps for each relevant time series. It does so by taking the newest sample that is less than the lookback period ago. The lookback period is 5 minutes by default, but can be set with the --query.lookback-delta flag or overridden on an individual query via the lookback_delta parameter.

October 27, 2025 - They said they "may" produce an SC66w in 5000k, but no guarantee. I have owned a Beta and I have a Four Sevens Mini MK III Turbo, but I don't like the 4000-4500k as it is too Yellow for my taste. The 5000k of the Delta(option) should be white enough for me, and it seems the Delta is similar in size the Sc63/65.

Increase and delta functions (Prometheus) — Grokipedia
January 14, 2026 - For native histogram samples, delta() computes a new histogram by taking the difference of corresponding components (sum, count of observations, and buckets) between the last and first native histograms in the range, also extrapolated to the full interval; mixed float and histogram samples are omitted with a warning.[2] Due to its reliance on scanning the samples to identify the boundary points per series, the delta() function operates with O(n) time complexity relative to the number of samples in the range, where n is typically small due to fixed scrape intervals, making it efficient for processing large datasets or high-cardinality metrics in Prometheus environments.
