April 28, 2021 - The old way, which is still available for those who wanted it, required you to spell out the way you wanted your name pronounced. If you’re looking to try it for yourself, you can go to the Google Assistant settings, then Basic Info, then Nickname.

You might not be aware, but your app can give those without a voice a voice, and I know there are apps out there design for that, but this app is so easy to use, because it was just focused on being a pronunciation application... I also use it to come up with cool sounding sci-fi names, that use a lot of X's, Z's and K's, so another plus.
