Any drawbacks to "ventless" heaters? | The Garage Journal
May 26, 2007 - Unvented heaters are great backup heat if the power goes out. They are great in fireplaces to run a couple of hours a day for extra comfort and ambiance. They are OK to run in a bathroom occasionally to take the chill off. They are outlawed by code in bedrooms.

November 29, 2010 - I would want a vented heater in a basement area unless you have a means of circulating the air through the whole house. Basements are prone to humidity problems without the extra the ventless dumps in the space. I had a ventless in an enclosed porch and it was great for that area. A friend has one in a dining room but he runs a wood stove all the time in the living room so the condensation moisture actually is a bonus.
