r/playstation on Reddit: Will there be a discount on the PS5(the console itself) on Black Friday?
July 16, 2021 -

So I'll be in the USA till 4th of December and I'm planning to take a PlayStation with me back home. Now the thing is, I wanted to know whether the PS5 will see any price reduction on Black Friday/Cyber Monday or shall I just purchase the Spiderman Edition which will be available at my nearest Walmart this Friday.

Probably won't be able to play till November anyways but want a cheaper console with a disc drive. Don't have a preference of slim or original as long as they won't sound like airplanes lol

What a weird question. The PS5 is at least $543 but why would you buy it if your not gonna play it till November,it's weird and yes of course wait if your not gonna play which is what you do with a "play"station. I think your fishing for deer.

I am in the same position as you. Thank you for asking this!

I was hoping to see it $50 off or a good bundle deal with FFXVI Black Friday, but now I'm wondering if this is a price drop and it will be better in November?

My co-worker who used to work at Gamestop says I should wait and get the Slim. But I don't like that we know nothing and that it is predicted that it will have less power/oomph or that it will likely have a detachable disc drive sold separately (which brings the price back up).

I also play a small sub-genre of games compared to most gamers. I don't really like FPS or really bloody games, but love a good story. I love Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts for the most part, but I've really enjoyed playing games such as Kena:Bridge of Spirits and Immortals: Fenyx Rising, etc. I also like platformers such as LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet and Clank (I grew up on Mario and Donkey Kong, lol). There aren't a ton of games out there yet to play. FFXVI is still $70 (Hopefully on sale Black Friday!). I do have the PS+ account and can play Ratchet for free atm. But what else can I play that isn't on my PS4 right now?

So I'm very torn about if I should buy it now or wait. Will I miss out? Is this the best deal? Is November better? Will the Slim be amazing? IDK!!!

September 30, 2022 - It wouldn’t be Black Friday without NBA 2K being 50% off. It’s still a rip off. It’s a FTP model with a $70 price tag. ... It also has a ridiculous install size for a sports game.

r/consoles on Reddit: Planning to get either PS5 or XSX this Black Friday, would appreciate input

Like title says, plan is to pick up a next-gen (for me) console. I'm just a bit conflicted which one, for reasons I'll detail below. Little b.g.: I've had og Xbox & 360, currently on PS4. I tend to have just 1 console a generation. I play mostly single player, casual, no gamepass or ps+.

Here are the factors I'm considering--

Exclusives: PS5 will have more variety, but the 1 exclusive that draws me more than any other is Microsoft Flight Simulator. But otherwise Xbox is meh for me, while PS5 promises more variety/quality (and I hear there's still quite a bit of unannounced 1st party PS5 stuff in the works).

Backlog: Lot of both PS4 & og Xbox/360 titles. If I go XSX I can play most 360 & some og games (my 360 died a while back); GTA 4, RDR 1, Just Cause 2 just to name a few faves. PS4 ofc I can just keep playing.

Always online & SSD: Still not clear if XSX needs to be always online, heard if XB live goes down (or if internet farts for w/e reason) then the console itself is unusable. Also SSD; PS5 you can add, XSX you can't (and if SSD dies so does the console I hear?)

Another consideration is which has the better deal/bundle this Black Friday. So given the factors I've mentioned, which would you recommend? What factors have I not considered? Thx in advance

Edit: Form Factor -- Neither PS5 or XSX are lookers or space friendly, but PS5 is uglier & unfriendlier imo just too large in odd directions

August 4, 2020 - Going all digital is the best thing I could have done when I was looking for PS5's. I just got a bunch of digital games for less than what I got TLOU part 1 when it launched, got em on a cheap and I won't need to stand up and change discs, why nobody mentions the amazing BF digital deals in discussions of digital vs disc console?

Hello, I’ve been wanting a ps5 for a while. Don’t need it because I have my ps4 and it works good. -I have the money to buy a ps5 but was wondering if I should buy it this month (August) or if I should wait for Black Friday/ after September. I heard there’s a new ps5 coming out and what if there’s deals in the fall? If I get a ps5 it’ll be the DISC version. Anything helps. Thanks

r/playstation on Reddit: I’m getting a PS5 on November 26, 2023
January 27, 2019 -

Why this specific date and so far away in the future?

I currently have very little time to play videos games and still have a huge backlog of PS4 games to play. The PS5 is quite expensive and large in size.

Now here’s some history, the PlayStation 3 came out in November 2006. The PS3 Slim came out in September 2009. The PS4 came out in November 2013 and the PS4 Slim in September 2016. As you can see there is a pattern of the Slim model coming out roughly 3 years later.

This means that come Black Friday 2023, there will be a significantly cheaper PS5, and/or a PS5 Slim to choose from. By that time many PS5 games will have released making it a worthy upgrade from my PS4, and I can either save money and get the old PS5 or get a smaller PS5 Slim.

Now it’s not not guaranteed that there will be a Slim version, but all 4 PlayStations got a Slim model, with the first 3 main PlayStations getting multiple new models smaller than the previous one. (Eg PlayStation 3 Super Slim).

Anyone else in it for the long game?

P.S do you think Cyberpunk 2077 will be worth buying by then?

November 18, 2025 - $60 for a DualShock isn’t a “Black Friday deal”. You can catch this price very often from different retailers through the year. This is the second “sale” I’ve seen with this bullshit price ... Looks like they'll be $55, marked down from $75. ... My PS+ Premium renews on 12/6. Cool. 😒 ... Open a new Playstation account and buy the 1 year subscription there. Both accounts on the PS5 can access the games and online services.
