You’ll have to sample them yourself, but https://archive.org has a wealth of public domain film, TV and sound recordings. You’re sampling the long way though. You don’t need to rip the whole file and trim. Just record the bit you want. Either hook a cable up from your computer to whatever you’re sampling into, or look into apps like Audio Hijack if you’re working in the box. More on reddit.com

I've been watching german expressionist films, all of them from the 1920s, thus, part of the public domain. It occurred to me that someone could have made a streaming service for these old films, but I found none.
I've been torrenting them, but it's always a hunt, the torrents tend to be dead, I think it would be easier to get people into these films if such a service were available.

I find it really weird that streaming services like Netflix and Amazon don't just host public domain movies. Like... it's basically free content, and the audience is there to justify hosting, plus once you've pulled people in they can discover new shit and stuff.

As the title suggests I'm looking for a website with legitimate public domain samples/quotes/sound bytes from movies, TV and radio.
I've found some websites that have a plethora of samples but most are copyrighted and there's no sub-category for samples in the public domain. I know of archive.org but it's very hard to navigate and doesn't have samples or clips, it seems to just have full movies/shows or links to them. And I know that there's YouTube channels with loads of public domain movies on them but I don't want to go to the length of ripping/downloading an entire 1hr plus long MP3 file off YouTube then cutting out the sample I want to use, it would be incredibly time consuming.
So does anyone know of a website or app that has a database of samples from movies, TV shows etc. For example (this is copyrighted though obviously) "lions and tigers and bears, oh my" or "frankly my dear I don't give a damn" in the public domain that are free to use.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You kids these days have it too easy. Back in my day we had to walk barefoot, uphill both ways to the thrift store to get some vinyl, lug a 100lb sampler to the living room, and once you get the rats nest of cables sorted and have your floppies ready, grab some samples, then edit it all on a postage stamp-sized LCD screen and go through 12 different screens to set up the playback. Don't get me started on naming the sample. Point is, if you want to make something interesting and unique, you have to put some work in.
