Hello, I'm doing some research and would've loved to pull Public Domain Review's photos on Flickr here — https://www.flickr.com/photos/publicdomainreview/ — except things I search for give me few to no results. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm looking for xeroxable images like woodcuts. public.work looks good at first glance, but is surprisingly hateful to navigate, is there anything like that but better?
Patterns, icons, logos, mockups - anything, just public domain/CC0
I want to find public domain images to play around with.
I’ve used up unsplash before and it was great, wondering if there are more cool resources
Thanks!
I'm working on my BFA project right now and Im trying to find the strangest, high-res public domain imagery.
Wikipedia has a good starting point here
The best thing on there is the link to Yale's library The old west stuff is sort of what Im looking for.
I also found this site. Burning Well
However, Im looking really for strange and beautiful imagery.
I really like the book this guy made
Also, Im looking for stuff like this
So not traditionally beautiful images, but still stuff that has some power and beauty to it in a weird way.
I appreciate any and all help.
Edit: I found this list of government sites that have image galleries
Edit2: that list is really great for landscapes and satelite images. I need people, animals and objects.
I have been using Wikicommons, which has alot of good old and new public domain photos which are of course free to use. However as everything on there is user uploaded and things put on there are usually on uploaded to be Wikipedia articles themselves, it has a very limited library I find.
And looking up Public domain image websites, you get a bunch of different ones charging you $30 for stock images lol.
So does anyone know if there is such a place that hosts all/nearly all public domain images that are accessible for free, or is such a place in the same realms of Narnia in terms of its reality
Say that you found an image that in Wikimedia or similar website it is stated that it is in the Public Domain, either because it was published before 1923 or because the artists has been there for more than 70 years (US).
How certain can you be that it is indeed the truth, and how likely are you to be sued by someone?
Thank you so much!
I'm curious as to what everyone's experience is with using images that exist within the Public Domain at Redbubble. I know I've read a couple of posts where users complained their shop was shut down, and I've seen certain sites that require "significant alteration" of an existing image before you can utilize it. Has anyone had personal experience in utilizing Public Domain images, and in the case of negative experiences, which sites should be avoided?

Learn what "public domain" means and how it applies to what you want to do. Once you understand what is NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN you then know the parameters to search for.
If your looking to reproduce mid century or later, perhaps licensing is what your looking for.
I have some works in the public domain, vintage advertisements etc, may not be what your interested in but your welcome to have a gander here...

Knowledge really is your best friend in this field, I don't claim to be knowledgeable, only just enough to stay out of trouble.
Good luck with it all!!
I’m looking for artwork and photography pictures that are free use. Is there some sort of huge database of artwork, pictures of art, statues, nature, etc. that you guys can recommend ?
I'm a big fan of 19th century American art, and would like to order some to print, but i can't find them in high quality. Is there maybe some official, public source (like a library/museum website) where i can look? I'm particularly interested in Kindred Spirits, Course of The Empire Cycle and Our Banner in the Sky, if someone just happens to have a link. Thank you!
I need public domain sites that i can use their free images to sell stickers ، shirts and hats
