Does anyone know how much Extra Space charges to open storage or cut the lock off? I don’t want to ask because if they tell me, I can’t do it myself. I want to claim ignorance since I’m moving out.
Thanks!
We just realized the keys to our storage unit were in our RAV4 that caught fire a couple months ago destroying everything in it. Our storage place charges $45 to cut off and replace the lock, so I was looking to save some money. I don’t have a cordless angle grinder, but was wondering if there was a way to put a 4 1/2” cutting wheel on a drill that would do the job?
While I would love to use this to justify buying a cordless angle grinder, I’m really trying to save some money. Any input/suggestions appreciated.
Update:
After reading posts here I contacted corporate customer service of Public Storage- they did tell me it is free to get the lock cut as a courtesy. However, the local store said they don't do it for free and it depends on the district/area where your storage unit is located and in mine its not apparently. But since I was told otherwise, they would do it for free. So they did the lock cut themselves- just drill it out. Nothing on their website explaining any of this, or in my lease about a lock cut, costs, if its free or not either. If you look it up on chatgpt or gemini google it also comes back with no concrete information on this, so the information seems to be kept vague. Thank you Reddit people.

Hi All, I cannot find the key to the lock. I got the lock from them.
I called the local public storage where I store my things and they said its a $100 for them to unlock it for me. It just feels so high and a rip off. I read other posts and they say is $45 or so..any ideas on what I can do? anyone else done it with public storage.
