There shouldn’t be any actual gel as it’s a solid piece of soft rubber-like material. Could maybe a pet have had an accident or someone else in the house spilled something? More on reddit.com

October 27, 2022Has anyone tried cutting out the GelFlex layer from a used Purple Mattress?
I haven’t cut that layer slecifically, but I have cut memory foam and latex. I suggest going to a thrift store and finding a cheap electric knife. Mark your line and then DO NOT lift one corner as you cut down. You’ll end up with a diagonal cut (ask me how I know).

Has anyone tried and liked any competitor to the Purple Mattress that specifically has the same gel grid? I was wondering if Amazon had one. Bob’s has one called “Energy” and you can definitely feel that gel grid. I’m sure for those that like the Purple will say it’s worth it and that comfort is important but it simply is not in the budget. Looking for a gel grid specifically. Thanks!

I was really impressed with the purple 3. It offers this weird responsiveness and bounce that nothing else does. I found it very comfortable. It being, probably, the most unique mattress I worried I’d be more likely to end up not enjoying it. Also worried about the longevity of it at that price, which isn’t low. I ultimately decided against it though.
