Purple, known for its popular Purple grid mattress, also offers a range of pillows and bedding. I tried their purple pillow harmony pillow. Purple has incorporated their futuristic mattress technology into the Purple Harmony pillow, which they've dubbed the “Greatest Pillow Ever Invented.” I had the opportunity to personally test the Purple Harmony pillow, and I'm here to share my experience with you.
Since everyone has unique needs and personal preferences when it comes to pillows, let's discuss who I believe would benefit most from the Purple Harmony pillow...and who might want to explore other options.
I also recommend that you read this before buying this pillow
It's best for you:
If you prefer sleeping on your back: You'll likely appreciate the Purple Harmony pillow. As a back sleeper myself, I found it to have the ideal loft and firmness, keeping my head and neck aligned with my spine. Back sleepers may prefer the low or medium loft option.
For side sleepers: The Purple Harmony pillow is also a great choice. I recommend the medium or high loft version for proper spinal alignment and comfort.
For hot sleepers: The hot sleepers will appreciate the Purple Harmony's ability to regulate temperature. Its latex core naturally stays cool, and the Purple Grid Hex and breathable cover allow for ample airflow, ensuring a consistently cool and comfortable sleeping experience.
It's not best for you:
For stomach sleepers: I recommend avoiding the Purple Harmony. While Purple suggests that the low loft version is suitable for stomach sleepers, I found the loft to be too high when lying on my stomach. Opt for a softer pillow with a lower loft to prevent neck strain.
If you prefer the traditional feel of a down pillow, you might not like the Purple Harmony. It's very bouncy and responsive, lacking the moldability of a traditional down pillow.
Budget-conscious shoppers should also consider other options, as the Purple Harmony is priced higher due to its high-quality materials, placing it in the luxury pillow category.
The feel of a pillow is crucial when making a selection, as it can greatly impact your comfort and sleep quality. However, it's important to note that feel can be subjective, influenced by factors such as body type and personal preferences. What I experienced with the Purple Harmony pillow may differ from your experience.
When choosing a pillow firmness, consider your usual sleeping position. Side sleepers often prefer firm pillows, back sleepers opt for medium firmness, and stomach sleepers typically prefer softer pillows.
In my experience, the Purple Harmony pillow has a medium firmness. Its latex and Purple Grid Hex construction provides a bouncy and buoyant feel, allowing your head to sink in slightly while maintaining elevation.
Purple Harmony Pillow Loft
In considering pillow feel, the loft, or height of the pillow, is an important factor. Side sleepers typically prefer high loft, back sleepers are comfortable with medium loft, and stomach sleepers usually opt for low loft.
The Purple Harmony offers three loft options: low (5.5 inches), medium (6.5 inches), and high (7.5 inches). While I tested the low loft version, I would describe 5.5 inches as more of a true "medium" loft, with 6.5-7.5 inches being quite high. Keep this in mind when choosing the loft that suits you best.
Side: I found the Purple Harmony to be an excellent choice for side sleeping. While I tested the low loft version, I believe the medium or high loft versions would be more suitable. The buoyant and elevating feel of the pillow is ideal for maintaining spinal alignment while on your side, providing essential neck support to help prevent neck pain.
Back Sleeping: I found the Purple Harmony to be a perfect match for my back sleeping preference. As a back sleeper myself, I'm naturally inclined towards pillows that offer comfort in this position, and the Purple Harmony didn't disappoint. The medium firmness was just right for me, and I particularly enjoyed the bouncy feel that also provided some contouring around my head.
I found the low loft version (5.5 inches) to be ideal for back sleeping, as I consider this to be a true medium loft. However, the medium loft version (6.5 inches) could also be suitable for back sleepers who prefer a slightly higher loft.
Stomach Sleeping: I didn't find the Purple Harmony to be the best option for stomach sleeping. While Purple suggests that the low loft version should work, I felt that the loft was still too high. For stomach sleepers, I recommend choosing a pillow with a loft in the 2-3 inch range, or one that is soft enough to compress down to that height.
Under the Arm: The Purple Harmony is a great pillow for sleeping with under your arm. It has a nice, huggable feel and doesn't cause overheating, making it a comfortable choice.
Between the Legs: The Purple Harmony is also a good option for sleeping with between your legs. Its medium firmness provides pressure relief for your legs while keeping your hips aligned. I recommend the medium to low loft versions if you plan to use the Purple Harmony between your legs.

My Final Thoughts About the Purple Harmony Pillow
In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed using the Purple Harmony pillow, making it one of my personal favorites. I found it well-suited for both back and side sleepers, as well as those who switch between these positions. Additionally, it's a great choice for hot sleepers or anyone who appreciates the cool feel of a pillow. I was particularly impressed by how cool the pillow remained throughout the night, even through my pillowcase.
I also enjoyed the feel of the Purple Harmony pillow; it's bouncy and responsive, yet still allows for some contouring. The addition of the Purple Grid Hex layer elevates what could be considered a basic latex pillow to something more unique and comfortable. I also appreciate that the cover of the Purple Harmony is machine washable and that the materials are hypoallergenic, ensuring cleanliness.
However, I would advise against the Purple Harmony for stomach sleepers. I found that even the low loft version wasn't low enough to prevent the neck from craning in this position. While I appreciate that Purple offers this pillow in multiple lofts, I felt that the "low" loft version, at 5.5 inches tall, was more like a medium loft than a true low loft.
Found the purple pillow on clearance at my local Walmart. Wondering if I should buy one or maybe even two.
I’ve been searching for a pillow that doesn’t wake me up in discomfort all night long. I’ve spent so much money, so many “guest pillows” are now in our spare room and I think I’m going to bite the bullet and try the harmony. My question is- what height? I’m short (just over 5 ft), small to medium frame but I normally sleep with two pillows to get the support I’m wanting to achieve. Recently I did buy an extra firm pillow and had my fav latex pillow on top, but that was actually much too high for me without sinking down at all. I’m contemplating getting the medium height and maybe just being able to sleep with only one pillow ? Does anyone have any advice or feedback? I wouldn’t be so nervous to order it and send it back if it was wrong if shipping wasn’t such a crazy thing right now!
I know there is too many topics about this question, but I still can’t make my decision.
So I am both back and side sleeper,5 9”, 160lbs, and currently using sleep number in balance curve pillow for about 4 years.
After doing research, I feel like I am the OG purple pillow, but most people are suggesting harmony pillow instead of OG. Any good suggestion? Thank you.
I’m a side sleeper with significant pain in my shoulders and neck. I toss and turn all night because of the pain. I also have a cyst in my spine. Because of the cyst I have intracranial pressure which usually results in me waking up with a headache. I purchased this pillow today; took a nap and can ALREADY feel the relief. I felt like my head was just floating in the air but my head and neck also felt fully supported. Cradled. I can’t wait to go to sleep, I’m really looking forward to it. Will come back to provide an update. I enjoyed reading posts like this before I decided to go with this pillow.
Just had my first night on my tall Purple Harmony pillow, and the shoulder on the side I sleep on has been really sore.
I'm a 6'3" 190lb side sleeper with broad shoulders.
Was this anyone else's experience and did it take time to break in? Or should I try the medium?
Thanks!
I sleep on my side and stomach mostly. I find the only time I can sleep well on my back is with a really good pillow. Like the type when you rest your head on it you feel like your laying on a cloud and drift to sleep fast because you're so comfy lol. But I also don't like anything that's too soft that it has no support or flattens easily, but not overly firm either. Looking for that sweet spot. Price is not a factor because we literally spend like a third of our life in bed/sleeping and sleep is so important, so I don't mind spending money for something really good. I have a great mattress and I had these amazing tempur-pedic pillows for literally the last decade and they don't make them anymore, otherwise Id get new ones, but Im definitely in need of a replacement. I was thinking of going to a Mattress Firm to try some out but the stores don't always have all the good stuff in stock there to check out! I read good things about the Purple pillows, not sure if anyone has tried the original, harmony or dream layer? Preferring not to do a down feather pillow because I have some already and they just don't give enough support and comfort sometimes.
got the Purple Harmony a couple months ago and for 150$ it has been severely disappointing.
I got the thinnest possible option because I'm a stomach sleeper and it's still too thick and puts undue pressure on my jaw.
For something that is marketed as the best pillow ever made, Purple is either setting the bar extremely low or there just haven't been that many good pillows.
I tried regression testing by going back to my old, 10$ cotton pillow from Walmart and it's surprisingly competent. Obviously, it's not as good as the harmony, but it's extra thinness makes it way easier to sleep on my stomach at the cost of some softness/springiness.
I think the purple material is really only suitable for a mattress as the pillow is only very slightly improved by it's presence.
At the end of the day you're just buying an overpriced latex pillow.
Side sleeper 5’9 medium build Hand is always under the pillow
Always grabbing onto a different pillow with my left hand while I sleep
Ive read numerous reviews of people recommending the purple harmony pillow.
I don’t want buckwheat because the last thing I want is insects.
Any recommendations!? Please help :) thanks guys!
I got the size-low pillow, since I’m a stomach sleeper. The pillow feels like a bouncing ball, as if I’m resting my head on a bouncing ball when trying to sleep. Will that change?
Anyone have that purple harmony pillow and enjoy it? Seems very comfortable and enjoyable, however I have yet to hear honest reviews from people who have used them first hand
Hello I'm new to this subreddit
I'm interested in the purple pillow which is about $100
But is it worth it? I have seen so many ads that it has brain washed me into getting it. But at the same time that's quite a price for a pillow. I don't know what do you think
I bought a Harmony pillow less than 2 years ago and it's basically turned into mush. My neck hurts from sleeping on it.
I tried to file a warranty claim but of course I'm outside the one year warranty and so now all I have is a piece of junk.
Hello, just placed an order for Purple harmony pillow (expensive, almost $200 USD pillow) and heard you won't really be able to know if you like it because it takes weeks to break into hence the 100 daytrial.. This is the BIFL place so I am mainly looking on something lasting.
I was always a big big fan of those hotel casino pillows (believe its goose down majority places use & pacific coast) but not sure about regular hotels or brands as i've only 99% frequent casino hotels.. I am also a bit worried as I couldn't find any reviews on life of pillows that extended 6+ Months as oppose to finding plentiful reviews on the purple harmony still going at it for 1-2 years+
Does anyone know and/or have recommendations for goose down pillow(s) that are long lasting? I haven't had a bad nights rest on a casino hotel pillow ever !!
Does anyone know how it will be compared to a purple harmony pillow? I know they are 2 different types of pillow & materials but idk. The description sounds like it fits me, it looks fluffy like a goose down and it says it doesn't lose it's shape. I have tried several of the <$100 pillows recommendations I googled in the past few years and they were good at first but lose their shape fairly quick within a few months.
I got the Harmony pillow myself. It's been over a month that I've been using it. It requires no fluffing, never goes flat, and my neck pain is gone. Of course pillows are subjective but I have tried many. This one was definitely worth the investment. If you don't want to pay almost 200 dollars, I would suggest buying it off of OfferUp, as I've seen new ones being sold for 100 to 125 or get into a bundle deal. I bought a few items from Purple at the same time and got discounts up to 30% off.

Just want to give a shout-out to this sub. I wanted to get a new pillow in addition to getting a new mattress (I'm upgrading to a king). I haven't decided on a new mattress yet, but in the meantime, I got the Purple Harmony pillow (Tall) after seeing the good reviews on this sub for people like me.
I'm a tall, very lightweight side sleeper. I was basically doubling up two down pillows, which was still causing my shoulder to be crushed. I moved around at night a lot and was tired every morning I woke up. This went on for years.
That new pillow was a damn game-changer. I don't move around at night and wake up feeling refreshed now. One night I did wind up on my back and it hurt my neck because of how tall it is, but that's really it. Every night has been terrific. Anyways I'm grateful for finding this sub and for people sharing their opinions.
I just got a Purple Haromony Pillow - Medium Loft 2 weeks ago. The pillow is very comfortable while I'm awake, but after I wake up in the morning I have a very stiff and sore neck. I'm a side sleeper and what I notice is that my head sinks all the way to the bottom of the pillow to my mattress. It offers zero support to my head and neck. Is this normal? Did I get a faulty pillow? Or is it possible that my head weighs too much for the pillow? Would getting the tall loft fix this issue?
I have one in each loft, well technically WE do( between me and my wife)! Lol
And yes you are correct ones head sinks down a lot. I need a medium for back sleeping but a tall for side sleeping. I’m 6’3” for reference. I actually use the tall just fine for back sleeping most of the time though out of convenience (I’m a combo sleeper) .
I also experienced pains at first while my neck was adjusting. So I’m not sure what’s causing your pain- adjustment or the improper size.
Same experience. I got mine as a gift so no exchanging. The purple grid is basically a special pillowcase around a latex pillow core. I ended up swapping out the core with a thicker/firmer traditional pillow and it works better but still isn't perfect.
Hey,
I just got my King Purple Harmony - Medium Height in the mail yesterday.
I’m primarily a side / combo side-back sleeper with neck issues.
One of the things that led me to buying the Purple Harmony was the support….But this pillow is not as reactive as I thought. It's so soft, it basically goes flat as soon as I put my head down. I'm 6'0, 165 lbs, with a small peanut head so I'm shocked at the pillow collapsing at the touch of my head.
Anyone else have this issue? I'm not sure if I should exchange it for the High height or return it all together.
I LOVE how cool cold the pillow gets so I want to try to find a way to make this work.
Exchange it for the bigger one .
Good luck. I ordered 2 medium height pillows around Cyber Monday, and largely felt similarly. I measured how tall the pillows were and realized they sent two short pillows instead. Reached out to customer support, and they finally responded about 5 days later apologizing and telling me they would send out medium cores. After sleeping on the mediums for a month, I think these are slightly too short. Reached back out to customer service to see if we could exchange the cores for the taller ones. I was then told by customer service that I needed to return the pillows for a refund and repurchase them. I got them at 40% off on Cyber Monday, so there is no way I'm going to return them and pay nearly double for a pillow that might be the right height. I was under the impression that customer support was really helpful, particularly with the pillows after reading through this sub. I was sorely mistaken and will not be recommending the product to anyone I know after this experience.
I recently upgraded to a king-size Helix Midnight mattress and am now looking to get new king-size pillows for it but can't decide between some final options.
I'm a side-sleeper almost exclusively and often get hot during the night. Looking to hear any advice from people who have used these pillows to help guide my choice! Thanks in advance!
I saw a study that showed Latex to be the best for folks that get headaches and have neck issues, so I tried the Medium Purple Harmony in store. I had been considering ordering it but had no idea what Latex felt like. I'm mostly a side sleeper but do tend to rotisserie throughout the night.
It was... not what I expected. When I tried it on my side, my head sank so far into it that it felt like I was hovering merely an inch from the mattress surface. And I had heard latex was bouncy, but it felt like every shift of movement resulted in my head boinging up and down.
Is that normal? Do I somehow just have a heavy noggin? They didn't have a Tall to try, and I wasn't a fan of the normal Purple pillow. Are there Latex pillows with slightly less sink and bounce?
I do like that it cradles your head a bit and retains it's shape no matter where you land on the pillow. One of my least favorite things of my current pillow (shredded gel memory foam) is that while I love the initial softness, the stuffing inevitably ends up shifting into the wrong places and my head ends up basically resting on the mattress by morning with a crick in my neck and that certainly isnt helping my migraines. So I have to keep adjusting its shape and moving the stuffing around.
I've also got some random brand solid memory foam pillows but they also just don't quite do it for me. I'm not sure if they're too tall or too firm or what but my head also ends up off of them by morning.
I need cradling, but supportive of my neck.
I’ve never had a latex pillow before, and I’ve really only used those super dense memory foam ones that have the blue gel layer on top. Before the memory foam, I always had polyester growing up. The kind you can get at target for a couple bucks.
I’m a hot sleeper who’s slowly been working on improving his bedding. My first change was going to cotton percale sheets from microfiber, and that’s made a massive difference to my bed coolness and comfort.
Now I’m looking into pillows. I’m fine spending the $188 USD on this Purple Harmony if it’s worth it, but I’m seeing other latex pillows around the $110-120 mark. Is the Harmony worth it over this?
I held a harmony years ago in a mattress store and loved it, but I didn’t buy it at the time. Is the Harmony worth it for hot sleepers, and will it last a long time without losing its shape? I think I’d go with the tall under the assumption that it will compress to medium in the long run.
Are there other cooling pillows or products I should look at that are a better value proposition? I appreciate any advice with this. :-)
