Primer on Jinja Templating – Real Python
January 12, 2025 - What a great way of getting Python and Jinja to work for you! You can now copy and paste the text, send it to your students, and save yourself some work. So far, you’ve added placeholder variables to the template text and rendered values into it. In this section, you’ll learn how to add if statements and for loops to a template to conditionally render content without repeating yourself. In the example from the previous section, you programmatically created customized messages for your top students.

If a change to this archive is ... infrastructure@python.org mailing list. ... Templating, and in particular web templating is a way to represent data in different forms. These forms often (but not always) intended to be readable, even attractive, to a human audience. Frequently, templating solutions involve a document (the template) and data. Template usually looks much like the final output, with placeholders instead of actual data (or example data in simplified ...

Template Engines - Full Stack Python
Writing a Jinja-inspired template library in Python walks through how to create your own a simplified version of the Jinja template engine as a learning exercise. How a template engine works uses the template module in Tornado as an example to step through how a template engine produces output, from parsing the incoming string to rendering the final output.

Python - Templating
The Template class in the string module is useful for dynamically forming a string object through a substitution technique described in PEP 292. Its simpler syntax and functionality make it easier to translate for internationalization purposes compared to other built-in string formatting facilities in Python.

January 14, 2022 - For example, let’s call it sample. Add project package name to the project-packages.txt. If you named the project sample (like we did in 1.) then sample needs to go in this text file. Below the commented line, of course. Set virtual environment as you like. I used Python 3.10, but it should be fine with 3.7+. There is one hack though.

You can use the standard library string and its Template class.
Given an input file foo.txt:
$title
$subtitle
$list
And this code in example.py:
from string import Template
d = {
'title': 'This is the title',
'subtitle': 'And this is the subtitle',
'list': '\n'.join(['first', 'second', 'third'])
}
with open('foo.txt', 'r') as f:
src = Template(f.read())
result = src.substitute(d)
print(result)
Then run it:
$ python example.py
This is the title
And this is the subtitle
first
second
third

There are quite a number of template engines for python: Jinja, Cheetah, Genshi etc. You won't make a mistake with any of them.

April 12, 2024 - In Python, the template provides a safe_substitute() method that gives back a string to handle the above mentioned errors. It leaves the placeholders as it is if it finds that the data is missing. The placeholders are returned if any error prevails. For better understanding, let's take an example:

The string module includes a versatile Template class with a simplified syntax suitable for editing by end-users. This allows users to customize their applications without having to alter the application. The format uses placeholder names formed by $ with valid Python identifiers (alphanumeric characters and underscores).

welcome to Mako!
Mako is a template library written in Python. It provides a familiar, non-XML syntax which compiles into Python modules for maximum performance. Mako's syntax and API borrows from the best ideas of many others, including Django and Jinja2 templates, Cheetah, Myghty, and Genshi.
