Have you tried performing a clear CMOS? Code 00 is basically before the mobo starts testing the CPU in the first place. Does this happen only in Windows? There were some Asus BIOS versions that didn't play well with software like Argus monitor and the mobo would crash to post code 00 due to that. Answer from Elianor_tijo on reddit.com

Asus Q-code 00 help

So my GPU died in early 2021 and due to the prices I wasn’t able to get a new one. I got a 3080 recently as the prices have cooled down. I also got a new cpu cooler(Noctua D15). My cpu is the i9-9900k and my mobo is ASUS MAXIMUS hero XI (wifi).

After I installed the GPU and cooler the pc booted with q-code 00. Later, it booted successfully for the first time in like over a year. Then it crashed again with the code 00. Now when I try to turn it on it will either boot successfully for like 10 minutes then shut down again, or just not POST at all. Also the fans don’t turn on when the error is there.

I did research and apparently it is either a dead cpu or a dead mobo, but I really don’t want to get a new cpu or mobo and I don’t have any spare parts. I reseated the ram and tried various configurations, so it isn’t the ram. I also reseated the cpu and cooler, to no avail. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thanks!

r/buildapc - Q-Code 00, possibly dead motherboard, no clue what else to try
June 23, 2020 -

I recently decided to build a new computer with the following parts: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/TheTikester/saved/#view=M8b7XL (I'm reusing my GPU from my first build until RTX 3000)

After I finished putting it all together turning it on led to the Q-Code reader showing 00 and was unable to be turned off with the power button. After some googling I had a list of things to try so I started by disassembling everything and starting from scratch with the motherboard on the static proof bag it came in and rebuilt it using only the essentials (motherboard, memory, power supply, CPU, stock cooler). I verified that the memory and power supply were both functional with my first build and also tried a ryzen 7 2700 and it still showed Q-code 00. I should also note that I have tried every stick of ddr4 ram I have in every slot. From there I cleared the CMOS and proceeded to try using the bios flashback function from a freshly partitioned and FAT32 formatted usb stick with the correctly labeled version of the latest bios version for this motherboard, and after the bios flashback led lit, it would stay lit until the system was turned off despite the manual saying it should turn off after several minutes (I left it for a few hours to be safe). I am worried that my motherboard might have arrived dead and I am unsure on what to try from here. If there is anything else I could try I would very much appreciate it as where I am right now x570 and B550 motherboards are very scarce and I really do not want to start searching for one again.

Edit: I forgot to mention that seemingly at random the motherboard will light up while the power supply is switched off.

Edit 2: Another thing I forgot to mention is that q-code 00 is listed as unused in the manual

May 28, 2023 -

Hey guys, my system consists of a 7950X, DDR5 6000MHz memory, 4090, and the ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero.

I’ve been noticing over the past month, games will very occasionally (still concerning) crash,l with display cutting out and a Q-code of 00 which means no CPU detected. This happened to me shortly before the V_SOC scandal and just now for the first time since updating the BIOS.

Do I need to worry that my Ryzen is on its way to permanent death? And even if not, how do I troubleshoot something like this? It’s certainly not a GPU instability as that would only kill the display output while the system continues to run, so it leaves out a combination of CPU, mobo, and memory. I’ve had this CPU for 7 months, and it’s only now doing this.

Any insight or help is appreciated :)

Hi everyone. I just booted up my computer for the first time last night! It had a few problems but I fixed em all. I was just wondering about the Q-code. I have the Asus ROG 570-E gaming mobo. The code is 00. In the manual, it says the code description is “not used”. What does this mean? One reason this code might be appearing is because the computer doesn’t have a graphics card and it isn’t connected to a monitor or anything. It doesn’t have video output. Is this the reason? Thanks!

I just got back home from a a weekend trip, and when I walked in to my home office, my computer’s fans were running at full blast and the mother board was reading code 00. I did some googling: turned it on and off again (while unplugging it from the wall). Tried a cmos rest, and re-sat all the power cables and hardware in the board. This is my only AM5 computer so I don’t have spare parts lying around I can try.

For the past couple months I’ve also been getting random “kernal power events” that would cause a hard reboot, and some “failed tpm events” that seemed mostly benign. However i uninstalled a bunch of software last week and that seemed to have fix the kernal power issue at least.

My question is: what do I need to fix? Is the mobo dead? cpu? Power supply? I’d prefer not to spend any unnecessary if possible since this computer was so expensive to build. Oh, and all the parts hit their 3 year warranty in the last month 🙃

r/ASUS on Reddit: Asus X99 E 10G WS board does not get beyond Q-code 00 ..
November 21, 2023 -

Two weeks ago out of nowhere my main workstation powered down while I was busy working on it. Wasn't doing something resource heavy, and there were no discharges (lightning or something), just poof, gone! At first I thought it was the mains power, but I have my PC behind a UPS so that actually never happens. Started trying to find out what was wrong, opened the really roomy case so the board is thankfully well accessable. Anyway, it would not power back on, so I disconnected the powerplug from the PSU, see what that does. It would start again, but no further than Qcode 00. Tried clearing CMOS, pulled 2032 battery out etc. Sometimes it very swiftly shows 14 but then immediately jumps to code 00. Extra strange is that the keyboard lights remain on, even when I pull the power and then put it back in the PSU. Keyboard lights up. Nothing else happens.

I have yet to even get into BIOS again. Whatever I try, it's not willing to enter BIOS anymore. I have pulled all hardware out, connected only memory, video, CPU and even tried each of them separately to see if it would say there is a video or CPU issue if there's none (it has LEDs for that), but not even that is working.

As an experienced IT-person (working with computers since ~1982..) I'm asking if anyone knows how to re-purpose the BIOS chip, which I think is the culprit here. Note that BIOS chips get sold a lot on ebay and ali-express, and you can even order them flashed for your specific brand/model, so I did order one but it takes ages before it gets here so I'm still asking if there's another method to push the BIOS onto that chip anew, perhaps using a serial port or debug pins or something? I can solder if required.

And yes, I know it also offers a way to reflash BIOS through a special USB port (the bottom green-tagged one), but following the manual on that does not offer me a new fresh booting asus board. I see the USB-stick LED flashing a little at the start of that method, but it stops right after and then nothing happens. So whatever that method should do, is also no longer functional. Seems to me that BIOS chip might indeed be the culprit. Perhaps it is just old age? I do know of bad IC's and bad silicon that is made to last about 5 years and then just deteriorates fast.

Frankly, I now feel sorry I picked the ASUS version, and not the AsRock version of almost the same specced board (the AsRock X99 WS-E/10G that is), I think I made that choice based on price at the time, but I don't remember. I have very good experiences using AsRock, for servers mostly, even better than with Asus, overall. I'm at a loss here, so if anyone knows what could be done to revive this ASUS X99-E-10G WS board, please share!

r/buildapc on Reddit: ASUS Crosshair X670E stuck in Q Code 00 after BIOS update to 2904!
April 17, 2025 -

Hi everyone!

Two days ago I updated my BIOS from version 2007 to the latest version 2904, and now my PC is stuck on Q Code 00 with the VRAM LED remaining solid yellow. The update was performed via the BIOS GUI without any errors—I've successfully updated this motherboard before—so nothing seemed amiss during the process. However, immediately after the update, my system halted at Q Code 00.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Cleared CMOS: I erased the CMOS settings and removed the CMOS battery for one hour, but nothing changed.

  • BIOS Downgrade: I used the USB FlashBack button on the rear panel to downgrade back to BIOS version 2007. The indicator light blinked blue for about a dozen minutes, indicating the process ran, yet the Q Code 00 error persisted.

  • Hardware Testing: I took my PC to an IT shop. We replaced the processor, RAM sticks, and power supply unit (PSU). Each component was verified in another system, so they are all confirmed to be working properly. They also tested my motherboard with a different CPU, memory sticks and PSU of their own and it still displayed Q Code 00.

It appears that the issue is isolated to the motherboard. I followed ASUS’s official upgrade process to the letter, and now my desktop refuses to work, which is incredibly frustrating. Moreover, as I live in Brazil, initiating an RMA is extremely challenging—ASUS local support isn’t accepting my product because I purchased it while traveling in the US, despite it still being under warranty.

My PC configuration:

  • Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair x670E Hero

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D

  • Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Neo (4x32GB)

  • Graphics Card: ASUS TUF 4080 Ti

Is there anything else I’m missing or I could try additionally? I'm totally lost here.

Buying a new motherboard seems to be my only option right now, which is both costly and inconvenient—not to mention the headache of reinstalling my OS and transferring data.

So, for anyone considering a BIOS update, here are a few tips:

  1. Backup all important data you need quick access to beforehand!

  2. Record the entire update process as "proof" of following the official instructions.

  3. Maybe simply don't do it! =(

And consider buying hardware from brands with more consumer-friendly support!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me any advice. Have a great one everybody!

January 5, 2021 -

Hey guys!

Im building a new pc. I had everything done, and it would not post. It shows a Q Code of 00. The Q LEDs are all not lit.

I took it all out and put it on a nonconductive surface and just connected the barebones psu, cpu, aio, and memory. Still 00. I tried just cpu and aio. Still 00.

My cpu is a 10900k and I’ve verified that the 8pin is securely in place from the psu. Ive also tried the 8 pin with the 4 pin also attached. CMOS has been cleared.I’ve also used the flashback feature to make sure my bios is the latest version from Asus’s site.

Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think it’s the motherboard? I’m going crazy... I’m starting to think it’s a bad mobo.

EDIT: all fans spin, fancy rbg lights turn on on the board, and aio pump and lights turn on... so they’re getting power

r/ASRock on Reddit: 00 code? Might just be a drama queen moment from your board
May 14, 2025 -

I often see posts where Q-Code 00 is immediately treated as a dead CPU—especially among ASRock users. But based on my recent experience, I’d recommend staying calm and trying a few things first.

While stress-testing my 9800X3D and G.Skill CL26 RAM (1.40V), I hit Q-Code 00 multiple times when pushing the limits. A simple CMOS reset? Didn’t help. But what I consistently noticed was this:

All memory profiles in BIOS were suddenly blank, and even EXPO wouldn’t apply. The fix? Manually re-enter the correct RAM timings (don’t trust Auto—they were way off in my case), and save + reboot.

Bonus tip: after a successful boot, shut down, flip your PSU switch off, and tap the power button a few times to discharge. This clears out any lingering issues that could cause false Q-Codes.

If your board lacks a postcode display, I get how this could look like a fatal error. But it might just be the RAM training going sideways. Try this before sending in an RMA.

System used:

CPU: 9800X3D

GPU: ASUS Astral 5080 OC

Board: NZXT N9 X870E Extreme (a.k.a. ASRock Nova in disguise)

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2×16GB DDR5-6000

Timings: CL26-34-34-70 @ 1.40V

Command Rate: 1T, GDM Disabled

r/pcmasterrace - New build won't boot, Q code 00 - what do?
August 14, 2020 -

So I finally got some new parts and assembled them on the mobo box. Tried to turn it on, but no cigar. When I turn on the PSU, the mobo lights come on. Then, when I short the power button pins, the fan turns on for about a second. The RAM sticks light up and the Q code says "00". That's it. The fans quit spinning and nothing else happens, lights stay on. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this please? I hope nothing is DOA or even got broken by me :(

Parts: Asus ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming 10700K Dark Rock Pro 4 2x8GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo BeQuiet 500W PSU / Corsair RM 850x

What I did so far: Installed CPU and RAM, put on the cooler (with only the middle fan) and plugged it into the cpu fan header. Plugged in my older BeQuiet PSU with the 24 pin and the 8 pin CPU power connector. Shorted the power switch pins and had aforementioned result.

Checked connections, same result. Removed fan and loosened cooler screws a bit (I had it on pretty tight. Like not full hulk strength, but as tight as I could get them without force), same result. Removed cooler and CPU, inspected pins, reseated CPU and cooler, same result. Switched PSU to my newer Corsair RM 850 x (known good, worked with my old build an hour earlier), same result. Added the 4 pin CPU power connector, same result.

Don't know if I managed to break anything, from what I gather "00" means that the CPU failed to initialize and it might be a bad mobo or CPU (or PSU, but as I said, that's known good). Don't know what else to do :( No idea how I could notice if a part is DOA, since I have no compatible alternative. Any help appreciated!

January 12, 2023 -

I've put together a PC with an Asus ROG Strix X670E-E, a Ryzen 7600X and two sticks of G.skill DDR5 memory. The rest of it - cooler, case, PSU, GPU, drives - came from my old PC. None of the drives currently have an OS on them.

When I boot, there's one faint beep, the fans all go to max RPM and I get no display output, not on the onboard, nor on the GPU out.

The Q code is 00, with no LEDs lit up.

Steps taken so far:

  • removed all peripherals except keyboard and display on onboard HDMI out

  • removed GPU

  • removed RAM, reseated sticks, swapped sticks, booted with each stick separately

  • cleared CMOS using the button on the back

Since there are no error LEDs I am assuming - hoping - that the CPU is good, but I'm not sure what else to test. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

I recently built a mini itx build with the following specs:

  • 5900x

  • Crosshair Viii impact

  • 32gb of ram (2x16 3200mhz) corsair vengeance lpx (exact model number is on QVL)

  • Corsair SFX 750W Platinum

  • 3080 FE

  • Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB

  • Sabrent Rocket Q 4TB

  • NZXT X53 Cooler

I am running into an issue where I can get into the bios, all my hardware is recognized but when I go to install windows and it reaches the end, before it reboots the PC ramps the fans up and gives me the Q-Code 00.

I have reseated most of the cables, adjusted the fans to make sure they don't have weird bends, and even taken a stick of ram out. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas? (And please let me know if there is any info I missed)

EDIT: I was able to boot into windows (installed successfully), it will be fine for 10-20 minutes and then I get the DRAM orange light is lighting up and I'm getting Q-code 00. I did try running them at stock (2133mhz, they work at this) but I am confused why they wont work at the XMP profile speed (3200mhz).

UPDATE (March 5, 2021): Per u/TDD_R recommendation I raised the SOC voltage to 1.025V, reset the ram to 3200mhz and so far it has been stable. Going to try with another set of ram to ensure it isn't the ram. (ram was 2 years old already when it went into my system)

December 9, 2018 -

Motherboard: Asus Strix x99 Gaming

CPU: Intel 6850k with closed loop water cooler (works fine).

Ram: 32gb (8x4) 3200mhz G.Skill TridentZ.

After a normal shutdown, the PC does not get past POST and is stuck in a boot loop with Q-Code 00.

Workaround I'm currently using is to hard reset the PC during the attempt to POST and starting it up again, in which instance everything appears to launch correctly is fully usable.

CPU, Ram and, every other component seem to be fine, as the computer does work perfectly, as described before. And elaborating on that, I haven't had any trouble whatsoever using the PC while it works, so no system crashes and whatnot.

So, any troubleshooting help or solutions if you've had to deal with this yourself would be appreciated highly, thanks!
