r/Keychron on Reddit: Is q1 pro worth for the first custom mechanical keyboard?
October 31, 2023 -

Hello all,

I am very new to mechanical keyboard. I have been using keychron k3 pro for few days (with brown swiss switch and everything else stock) and liked the feeling. I will be using a keyboard mainly for typing purposes only. I have been checking and came to a conclusion that I would like to buy/ build a first one using keychron q1 pro. I do appreciate connection via Bluetooth. I have been thinking between shell white and silver backbone for the base. Probably I would go with tactike switches...Other than that I do not have solid idea about switches and keycaps and other customizing accessories. I am based on a Nordic country and would need Iso Nordic format and do not have any local supliers where I could go and check. Everything have to order from either amazon or keychrons own shop. I would appreciate very much if one can suggest on some decent as well as reasonable switches and keycaps and other needed accessories.

I do appreciate nice and clean look however do not necessarily need heavy customization!

Thanks alot in advance. Cheers!!

I love my Q1 Pro. It definitely got me to go down the rabbit hole of the keyboard hobby. I didn't think I'd get into modding but then I did. It's so flexy and comfortable to type on I am based on a Nordic country and would need Iso Nordic format and do not have any local supliers where I could go and check. the hobby is mostly internet based for most people, if it makes you feel better. As far as where to order supplies like keycaps and switches, you could try candykeys or keygem. they ship from germany. I like PBTfans keycaps and most of their sets either have explicit Nord extension kits or international kits. Here's a good set: https://candykeys.com/product/pbtfans-spark-r2 . Of course you can also get the Q1 pro assembled with ISO nord keycaps pre-installed if you just want to get started https://www.keychron.com/collections/keychron-iso-jis-keyboard-collection/products/keychron-q1-pro-qmk-custom-mechanical-keyboard-iso-layout-collection?variant=40441724534873 For switches I'd say you should decide if you want a linear or tactile first. Tactile has a bump you can feel as you press it and linear is completely smooth. usually gamers prefer linear and typists prefer tactile although linears are now more popular with typists as well. I like tactiles. A good place to start for a reasonable price is Akko Cream Yellow Pro (linear) or Akko Cream Blue Pro (tactile). In the US they are on amazon but I guess you'd have to look. As for other tactiles to look at, if you decide you want to spend a bit more, I'd look at either baby kangaroos or boba u4ts. I think it is safe to say those are the 2 most popular tactiles on the market right now. bobas are known for being very deep in pitch which people really like, baby kangaroos are known for having very smooth factory lubing and a more marble-y sound. both have a large tactile bump that gives a lot of feedback

Keychron Q1 Pro keyboard review: Simply unbeatable
Keychron adds wireless to one of its most popular premium keyboards, and keeps its unbelievable value intact. Keychron started out making wireless, Mac-focused mechanical keyboards that were, at least for me, pretty underwhelming. Then the company shifted into high-end, enthusiast-focused keyboards, such as the Keychron Q5, which has all the trappings of a small-batch boutique build, but at about half the price. This is the company's sweet spot, and it's been improving on that ever since. Now we've come full circle: The Q1 Pro is Keychron's first high-end, all-metal board to add Bluetooth. And

May 5, 2023 - The included keycaps have a rather concave top for your fingers to rest in, and if you’re switching from something like a MacBook’s keyboard to the Keychron Q1 Pro it is a very different typing experience that will certainly take some time to get used to, but it’s one I prefer.

r/Keychron on Reddit: Q1 Pro vs Q1 Max
October 8, 2023 -

Hey so I was shopping around for a keyboard and I wanna go for keychron but I'm not sure which is better for me, Q1 Pro or Q1 max.

I'm a programmer and I'd love a keyboard that feels and sounds good so I was thinking about Q1 Pro red switches as it is cheaper than the Q1 max (not by a lot though so I'd still go for the max with enough reason). However, I still game from time to time.

Right now I'm probably going to go for the Q1 pro with red switches so if anyone could give me another alternative that feels and sounds good or better, is around the same price range, and has a knob I'd highly appreciate.

November 4, 2023 -

I currently own two mechanical Keyboards. A Ducky one 2 TKL at the Office, and a Keychron K3 Pro at home. I bought the K3 Pro about 6 months ago, and while I like it alot, it is not quite right for me.

The 75% layout of the K3 Pro is just a bit too small for me. When I bought it, I thought I would love it as an upgrade from my Logitech G815. Turns out the lack of space between ESC and the ½ key, and the F keys isnt working for me.

I like the Ducky keyboard (I inherited it from a coworker who left for another job) I use at work, which has shown me, that low profile is not as important as I thought it was. Hence Why i am not looking at keyboards that are not low profile.

What is important for me in a keyboard:

Most importantly I have to like typing on it. I have Brown switches on both my Ducky and my K3 Pro, and my G815 had Tactile switches. I know I dont want Blue / Clicky switches, but I have no idea if I would like red switches.

Bluetooth is important for me, not because I move my keyboard around, but because I want to be able to switch between controlling my personal PC and my Work PC easily (so I dont end up with two keyboards on my desk when I work from home...).

I want it to be TKL or smaller, but not as small as the K3 Pro.

It has to be Nordic ISO layout, which limits keychrons offerings a bit.

VIA Rebinding matters.

What keyboards am I looking at now

Currently I am looking at getting either the Q1 Pro, or the Q10 Pro.

Why the Q1 Pro:

The Q1 Pro seems to be very close to my Ducky Keyboard, a TKL, thought with out the "normal" navigation cluster. This seems to be the "safe" bet. I am very sure I will like it, and review of it are very positive.

Why the Q10 Pro:

I like the look and the idea of the Q10. The more ergonomic layout seems very cool, but it is also why it is a risk. It is very expensive (nearly 290 Euro with shipping), so it is an expensive lesson, if I do not like it. Since I learned to touch type, from gaming, my normal resting position is WASD, and I am a bit worried that this might leave me to look for keys with my right hand, that are on the left side cluster.

The bonus contender - Q11 Pro:

The Q11 Pro seems to be the middle ground between the two. It can be used as a normal TKL keyboard when desired, but can be split for a more ergonomic layout when that is called for. With the Q11 Pro the wrist rests concern me. I am worried about having to adjust them all the time, since it doesn't seem like they attach to the boards.

What do I use my keyboards for:

I am a Linux guy, both for work, and home, so I spend alot of time in my terminal, and editing config files...

but, I am also a hobby gamer, so some time is spent gaming aswell.

Please share your experiences and advice here, to help me make the right choice.
