ELI5: The difference between Qualitative research and Quantitative research?
You can use the roots of the words to help you remember the difference. Quantitative has to do with numbers, like the word quantity. Quantitative research measures things with numbers. How many people like coffee? How many trees fell over in the storm? How many books do people read each year? You then take these numbers and maybe do some statistics or other math to come to a conclusion. Qualitative research has to do with looking at qualities. Maybe you taste a bunch of coffees and compare them in some way. Maybe you talk to people about their experience during a big storm and compile a report about how different people reacted to the stressful situation. Have a bunch of people read a book and describe it. These are all about qualities of things, and generally don't use numbers. Quantitative => Quantity => Research using numbers and math. Qualitative => Quality => Research using opinions and experiences, generally not using numbers. More on reddit.com
Why is qualitative research looked down upon in academia?
There is a deep bias/assumption that qualitative research is fundamentally subjective, which goes against psychology's drive for objectivity. And many people falsely assume quantitative is always objective. More on reddit.com

What Is a Common Goal of Qualitative and Quantitative Research?
Both quantitative and qualitative methods seek to find patterns in the data they collect that point to a relationship between elements. Qualitative and quantitative data are both instrumental in supporting existing theories and developing new ones. Ultimately, the researcher must determine which kind of research best serves the goals of the study.

How do you analyze qualitative data?
There are various approaches to qualitative data analysis, but they all share five steps in common: · Prepare and organize your data. · Review and explore your data. · Develop a data coding system. · Assign codes to the data. · Identify recurring themes. · The specifics of each step depend on the focus of the analysis. Some common approaches include textual analysis, thematic analysis, and discourse analysis.

Quantitative research is very well suited to establishing cause-and-effect relationships, to testing hypotheses and to determining the opinions, attitudes and practices of a large population, whereas qualitative research lends itself very well to developing hypotheses and theories and to describing processes such as decision making or communication processes.

Quantitative research methods are methods that are based on empirical numerical data (quantities). These are used more often in the hard sciences like physics and chemistry but are also used in the social sciences like sociology. If your research methods have to do with measuring numbers and figures, it's probably quantitative. Qualitative research methods are based on describing behaviors and experiences (qualities). These are primarily used in the humanities and social sciences (for example, anthropology and history use a lot of qualitative methods). Examples of qualitative methods include ethnography and critical analysis - in both cases, you're looking at something and describing what's happening.

May 4, 2023 - Understands the ‘human touch’ only through quantifying the OE data that only this type of research can code. Quantitative data suits statistical analysis techniques like linear regression, T-tests and ANOVA. These are quite easy to automate, and large quantities of quantitative data can be analyzed quickly. Analyzing qualitative data needs a higher degree of human judgement, since unlike quantitative data, non numerical data of a subjective nature has certain characteristics that inferential statistics can’t perceive.

Qualitative vs. Quantitative Market Research: Why Not Both? — Greenbook
Quantitative market research involves gathering numerical data through surveys and questionnaires for statistical analysis to identify trends in a target market. It offers measurable results from a large sample size for generalization and prediction. On the other hand, qualitative research explores subjective experiences and motivations, aiming to provide deeper insights into consumer behavior through non-statistical analysis.
