Here's the deal, with the cost of living being what it is right now, I went from a 1bd apt to renting a room until I can save money enough to pay off some some debts and consider moving elsewhere. I simply don't have space for living, so I want to get rid of the king mattress I've had for the past 6 years and downsize to something that's more space friendly.
Right now, to have room in my room do anything, I have to pick up my mattress every day and lean it against the wall. I had a used Balkarp years ago, and liked it well enough, but I'm hoping to find reasonably priced suggestions since this purchase would be a daily sleeper for at least the next year.
Does anyone use a futon mattress with an IKEA bed frame? We are looking to raise a futon off the floor, and since it is used only for sleeping the most available futon frames don't work, as they have arms. The futon mattress is queen size and *should* fit within an IKEA queen frame. We are considering the Hemnes or Tarva with the Luroy slatted base.
Thanks for your help!
So I bought this futon off of Marketplace and owned it for many years. Queen size with yellow foam inside. I loved it and found it extremely comfortable. I moved abroad a few months ago and didn't consider it worth it to take with me since there seemed to be very similar looking options still selling at IKEA.
However, after trying out the one look-alike available in store, I was shocked at how uncomfortable the cushion was.
Please tell me they just had a bad one on display and they still make comfortable futons 😭.
When I put it into Google Images, I get a lot of hit back for the Lovas, but IKEA currently has a lot of futons that look quite similar. And at my current store there doesn't seem to be an option for trying the different ones out before you buy :/.
Alright, here’s the deal: several years ago I was sleeping on an ikea futon the ikea lycksele lovas and had a 2” memory foam topper on top. It was great! No motion transfer, plenty cool, good edge support, some sink but not too much... but it wasn’t an “adult” bed.
So we tossed it and got a queen size purple mattress (the og). It was great at first, but the motion transfer is killing me, and the poor edge support means we’re constantly moving together towards the middle. The thing also absolutely chews through sheets. I’m pretty done with it after about 2 years of trying to make it work.
I’m tempted to go and grab a high density foam mattress and throw a topper on it to get back what I had before. Am I crazy? Is there a better option for that type of feel? I’ve gone to stores and tried Casper and leesa and overall been somewhat unimpressed by hybrids. I can’t honestly say I’ve tried many pure memory foam mattresses just because it seems more cost effective to get a topper I can swap out every couple years. Are there things I’m missing? Brands/models I should go hunt for to try out?
Thank you for any insights you can provide. I’ve been lurking for a while but haven’t been able to describe what I’m looking for in searchable terms.
