Is the Nectar mattress any good?
What are the downsides of a Nectar mattress?
Why does my back hurt after sleeping on Nectar?
Hey everyone!
My partner and I are thinking about getting a queen-sized nectar mattress (the regular memory foam one) after looking at a ton of options. We’ve both been researching a lot and even checked out a few nectar mattress Reddit threads, but it’s hard to know what’s legit.
We’re both around 5’6” and average weight, and we’re both side sleepers dealing with neck and back pain. I’ve even got some hip pain that makes sleeping uncomfortable, so finding the right mattress is a big deal for us. We want to keep our budget under $1,000, and the Nectar looks like it could be a great value. But after reading so many reviews and nectar mattress reddit discussions, everything is starting to blur together.
If you’ve tried a nectar or have any insights from other reddit posts, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Is it really worth it for side sleepers? Does it help with pain, and how does it hold up over time? Appreciate any honest experiences you can share.
Thanks so much!
I recently moved about 4 weeks ago. The current mattress I had was used when I got it, and I had been using it for 4 years, it was a regular spring mattress. So lots of backstory first...
The instant I started looking for mattresses online, I was completely overwhelmed with options, then began reading deeper into the whole online mattress market and how it's mostly run on marketing etc etc. I was looking at multiple bed in a box mattresses, casper, tuft and needle, nectar, a few super cheap $300 dollar chinese models. After reading the big post at the top of this sub I decided to go ahead and go to ONE Mattress Firm location to try out beds.
I tried out every bed in the store (minus a few, i'll get to that later). The rep was helpful but sales is sales and they were pushing the presidents day Queen for a King deal, frfee adjustable stands and all that. I originally went in hopes of trying out a Casper but they didn't have one.
Every bed I tried out was leagues ahead of my current mattress in terms of comfort. There was one line I particularly enjoyed but don't remember the name. I thought I was a firm mattress guy and out of 3(being the most firm) and 1(being way to soft for me, their 'medium' suited me, a 30 year old 6' 190lb male very well, my girlfriend, 5'4 130lb as well. She actually preferred the medium over the Soft surprisingly. All 3 of these were memory foam / made up words.
Here was the kicker, these beds started at $2,800(for a twin, which would have got me a queen). Granted, they felt GREAT but way out of my budget. I eventually wandered over to the to beds where I could get a queen for under $1500, standard spring mattresses. Not after laying on the bed for 30 seconds the sales rep wants to come tell me that I probably won't like that one and REALLY wants me to try this bed that they've only sold one of ever. $5000 for a twin, tried it for a second and then walked out of the store disappointed that my search must continue.
So back looking at Amazon, my final decision was based off of the fact that the Queen nectar was $700 and came with 2 free pillows and would be at my door within 3 days, and that Amazon, who i trust, would handle returns.
Bed came straight to my door, minor smell, I opened it around 2pm and slept on it that night. Compared to my old bed it feels amazing. It is SLIGHTLY more firm than the 'medium' that I tried in the store.
I can't and won't make any outlandish claims about back pain/knee pain going away, best sleep of my life or it being the most comfortable bed I've ever laid on.
But I will say I am happy with my purchase.

This post is mostly in case in the future I travel back in time with no memory other than one reddit username I used, and I have to go through this ordeal again.
Hello mattress hunters!
So over Labor Day this year, my partner and I bought the Nectar Classic Mattress, and dang—it’s really upgraded my sleep.
HOWEVER, there was one small thing I didn’t expect: it’s FIRM right out of the box, more than I thought it would be. Initially, I thought about calling to return it. But honestly, after a few nights, it started to soften up a bit, and now I’m loving the extra support! Either that or I just got used to it.
Oh one other thing, is that it is HEAVY. Took both of us to get it up the stairs so if you’re old and/or weak, be prepared for that.
Other than that, it’s been amazing. The memory foam is super plush and contours perfectly to my body, which has been great for my back and hips. I’ve also noticed I’m waking up way less during the night. The motion isolation is excellent, when my partner moves or gets up to pee in the night - I barely feel a thing.
The construction feels really sturdy too, which is reassuring since I need something that lasts (let’s hope this stays that way) My advice - If anyone’s on the fence about getting a Nectar, I’d say go for it! It’s affordable, and with the generous trial period, you can try it out without much risk.
Hope this helps for people on the fence like I was!
