I've always owned a comforter, and I'll be getting a new queen size bed soon and want to switch to a duvet + cover to make washing easier. I saw that there is a normal queen size duvet (92 x 88) as well as an oversized queen duvet at 98 x 98. However, the covers that are in my budget and the color I want are all 90 x 90.
I've read some posts suggesting to buy slightly larger duvets than covers to ensure your duvet cover fills out well, but I'm wondering if having 8-ish extra inches for length and width will be too much. Do y'all have any tips/suggestions/advice for this? I don't know if I need to just look for different covers or if the extra width/length will be fine. Thanks in advance!

I currently have normal queen sized bedding, but want to go a little bigger on the comforter. I was about to order an oversized queen duvet cover (96"x96") and an oversized queen comforter (98"x98") for it. I'm trying to figure out if it's normal for the comforter to be bigger than the duvet cover as their normal queen stuff matches in size. I've already emailed a few times with the company (Cuddledown) and they told me to call support. After 3 calls and 5 different support people who thought this was apparently an insane question they've never heard of, I was finally dumped into a voicemail.
I love Cuddledown's stuff, but this is a crazy support experience for what seems to be a simple bedding question for a bedding company. Any help here from the community would be great.
Hello! This may seem like a dumb question, but can you buy a King comforter and use it as an oversized queen? My new mattress is definitely a little taller, plus, I love that luxurious draped over look. Didn't know if there were any downsides to this
I'm interested in buying an oversized queen comforter and duvet cover. Does anyone have recommendations for either? I'm on a budget, so would love options on the less pricey side. Amazon seems to have good options, but was curious if there are fan faves out there. TIA!
For example, if you have a queen sized mattress, do you use a queen size duvet insert/comforter and queen sized pillows?
Or do you have various sizes of things?
What is your set up?
They tend to be the same length, but quite a bit wider. It’s helpful if you share your bed and your partner tends to grab the covers and roll with them.
I’ve been debating this for a while, should I get a bigger comforter? Thinking of going forest green with the duvet cover and thought maybe I should size up at the same time. Or would it look weird?
So I sleep in a queen sized bed. My stepmom just bought a new comforter for me. The comforter is a full/queen size one. What's the difference between that and just a standard queen size one? Will it be any shorter or less wide?
Also, not trying to sound picky or anything, as I do appreciate the nice gesture of my stepmom, but I'm just curious.
Example: if you have a queen size bed, buy a king size comforter! Especially if you share your bed, as this should help with blanket thieves.
Edit: comforter = duvet
My SO and I used to have a queen comforter for our queen bed and we were always fighting for more coverage. Upgraded to a king comforter and couldn't be happier (or warmer).
Go up a size on any comforter.
EDIT: I've been KARMALIZED!
EDIT: A comforter is similar to a duvet. I call it a comforter because I'm a deep south American. I don't know any better. TIL a lot about comforters/duvets and a woman's ability to become a burrito. We could feed the world!
Also, I like my idea better than separate beds or covers because I enjoy being able to touch my SO under the cover.
Those who hated this lpt were very funny with your metaphors.
Hi all, long time lurker, reading through the amazing posts by such knowledgeable people. I am looking for a new queen down comforter. Mine is almost 20 years old and flat as a pancake. Something mid- warm. I’d like it to hang over the sides of my queen size bed. Should I get a queen size down insert and a king duvet? What is a mid warmth down fill number you’d recommend? I’m so overwhelmed by all the choices!
Okay this may seem like a dumb question but I am completely confused. I’m redoing my room and part of that is buying a new duvet. I have a queen size bed that sits pretty high and is pushed in a corner. My mom keeps telling me to get a king size duvet because it will look better but I’m not sure. Does anybody buy their duvets in a size bigger, and does it look better than getting the normal size?
