What is the difference between mean and range?
Mean is the average of all the numbers in the given data. It is the best way to analyze the central tendency of the data. It uses all the data points. Range is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number. It gives a broad idea about the spread of the data. It only uses two points.

Range definition - Math Insight
For example, we could define a function $f: \R \to \R$ as $f(x)=x^2$. Since $f(x)$ will always be non-negative, the number $-3$ is in the codomain of $f$, but it is not in the range, as there is no input of $x$ for which $f(x)=-3$. For this $f$, the range is the set of non-negative real numbers ...

September 24, 2024 - Another good example is sports games. If over a series of games, the lowest score of your basketball team is 86 points and the highest is 111 points, the range of 25 points tells you how much the team's performance varied over the games they played. Weโve mentioned the word โdatasetโ several times by now. Dataset simply means that you have a set of related data, such as heights of students in your class, or morning and evening temperatures recorded each day at the same times for the past week.

Finding the Range of a Function: 3 Methods (With Examples) | Indeed.com
A function is an applied mathematical term used to talk about the relationship between two variables. In a formula, you can represent a function as: y = f(x)In this formula, y is a function of x, meaning that when the value of x changes, the value of y (or the range or dependent variable) changes as well. For example:If x equals 2 in the equation y = x -1, then the value of y is 1: y = 2-1But if x has a value of 10, then y would also change, to 9, or y=10-1Related:34 Careers Using Applied Mathematics (With Definitions)

Another easy way to think of range is the highest value minus the lowest value. For b, the highest value is -40 and the lowest value is -163. So -40 -(-163)=123 degrees. For c, the highest value is 83 and the lowest value is -152. So 83-(-152)=235 degrees
