A place for details from actual affected ex-employees.
I was laid off today. M6 with over 2 decades. 60 years old. Entire career in aerospace. Standard severance indicated.
As for me, I am well prepared and was planning to retire early in the next few months anyway, so this is actually a tidy bonus.
I started as a P1 equivalent and have managed people many times over the years, and made the company many hundreds of millions. My biggest gripe, although I understand secret sudden layoffs, is the lack of respect. At some age and professional level and “tenure” I wish the company would allow some time to look for an internal move. But, if you work for a large company you must always be prepared for the boot. If you’re not laid off, that is my one piece of career advice, no matter your age.
My sincere best wishes to those under the boot. Edit: FYI I was in Collins central engineering.
I was laid off this morning from my role in Raytheon Space Systems in El Segundo.
The HR rep told me that I'd be receiving a WARN notice, which means that at least 50 people are being laid off within a 30 day period.
Any news of layoffs with RTX as a whole today?
Title. Had a days warning from an ominous meeting with my manager scheduled out of no where in a conference room we don't normally meet in.
I haven't heard anything at my site but I keep seeing these posts and I'm worried. I'm a direct charge engineer and it seems even those aren't safe from what I'm reading?
I got laid off on Monday. They are decreasing headcount due to restructuring. Raytheon is having financial issues. They have been laying people off since I started five years ago. It’s not a stable company. It got worse when United Technologies came into the picture. They have changed the dynamic and culture of the company. It’s no longer a company of integrity. I am very disappointed in them.
Coming from my experiences with Collins, the concept of these layoffs is something we are very familiar with. If programs are not profitable or coming to an end, there’s only so much that can be done. Read through the companies 10-k filings, specifically at the management discussion and analysis section to understand where the business is having ups and downs.
It sucks to have happen to you, but in most cases it’s not personal and direct managers get very little say as to who stays and who goes. If it does happen to you, ask if you are eligible for rehire. Usually there might be a 6 month to a year window where they can’t rehire you but after that it’s possible you can come back to a similar position or group.
Alright folks, I've been at work for an hour and rumors of layoffs happening today are circulating already. For what it's worth, I'm in Collins.
Good luck today, I wish everyone the best. Fingers crossed.
Edit: I am at an Iowa site, not the main plant. I confirmed with a friend that another Iowa plant laid off their entire 3rd shift. Not sure on exact numbers.
Lost one of my team members, saying it's ongoing and to hang tight for the next few weeks. May the force be with you all
I don’t know much except lots of talk around layoffs, I figured consolidate to a single thread to discuss the possibility of people getting laid off. Which SBU will be hit? How many? Any info?
I knew it was coming. They’re getting aggressive with the budget cuts. I was going to enroll for school too…so forget that now!
Last week there was a thread that said that there will be deep cuts and restructuring going on in Collins, specifically avionics. Has anyone heard anything yet ? It’s almost noon here and I haven’t heard a peep.
Can we take no news is good news ?
Throwaway account from an executive. Major layoffs coming next Thursday Oct 30. Notifications should be going out to individual people managers that are affected tomorrow and Monday. I know Collins wide but I’m hearing likely RTX wide at this point. Stay safe out there.
Does the RTX RTRC ( Raytheon Technologies Research Center) also have periodic layoffs?
Interiors, WS. Got the ‘Touch Point’ invite for 9:00am, cut loose by 9:03am. “It’s not you, it’s us”
I’m more annoyed that I only got three semesters into my MBA through ESP. Good luck, everyone.
Heard through the grapevines that there is a potential reduction in force being talked about. The scope is broad at the moment where they are looking at Remote employees, center manager and directorate level.
Anyone under p5 or lower should be safe provided that they are on-site. The target areas are going to be Huntsville, Dallas, Tucson within RMD.
I work remote, however my manager has asked me to come onsite whether or not I have a seat assigned.
Folks are being walked out of McKinney site today. Does anyone know the rationale of who’s being let go and why?
Seems to be a lot of rumors swirling. Can anyone confirm?
Due to reduced business activities in 2025, my department is reducing workforce. I have over 14 years with a Masters, active clearances and IPTL/CAM with customer facing experience. Would appreciate any leads. Open to lateral moves, program cost controls, program leadership roles. Located in West Coast but also open to remote.
EDIT - I'm P3 going to P4, Systems Engineering, Program Manager Development Program graduate Class of 2023, PM level 6 Certified, EVMS Certified, active Secret with Special Access
I saw the video message from Greg Hayes this morning. I’m guessing layoffs are coming soon and that’s why we’re now suddenly getting all this positive “Everything is great!” messaging?
Anyone have any tea on when they’ll be coming?
I narrowly escaped the Collins layoff in September, I transferred to another BU the day before my job was scheduled to be cut. Now I’m brand new on the totem pole and I’m expecting some bad news in December.
