Do the pressure sensitive analog switched work on every game? I’m considering getting a razer huntsman v2 analog because I want to play metal gear solid games on keyboard and my current keyboard is really worn out
Videos
I’m in the market for a new keyboard, and seeing as I love my Razer Basilisk V3 Pro, I was looking into this keyboard. I think I would like the features of the analog version, but it seems to be increasingly out of stock everywhere. Anyone know why that may be? Are they bad, discontinued, coming out with a new version? TIA!
I'm torn between purchasing the Corsair K100 or Razer huntsman v2 analog(*May even consider the v1 ). I currently own a Razer BlackWidow TE Chroma v2 and looking to upgrade. I know custom building keyboards is a thing but besides custom building my pc's I want everything else done for me haha. I've built a bond with razer keyboards over the years but would be willing to change over. I've tried logitech I love my g502 absolutely but as far as keyboards I just hate their romer switches they're super mushy to me and yes I know they have cherry's but cherry switches are overated and I just don't fancy tkls or 60% I just like full sized I got the tkl blackwidow and just find something off about it. Any nudges between the two choices I've really pegged it down to these two that I really liked I know they're overpriced but I'm a gamer with a pretty deep pocket when it comes to peripherals so no set budget.
The TLDR is that I'm going to keep it, but it's pretty much a waste of money.
When I heard about the analog keys, I was curious. The concept seemed to be a game changer. Then I heard the keys in a YouTube video, and tried to cancel my order. That didn't work out. I'm pleased to say that the keys are not as bad as I feared. They are louder than I was hoping for, but the analog mechanism gives them a good resistance. They don't crash into the bottom of the stem as roughly as I was expecting, which is a relief.
Unfortunately, that's about all the nice things I have to say. The superthin font on the keycaps lets very little light through. Combined with them being black (which absorbs light) and the lighting effects might as well not exist. At least not with the room lights on. They are exceptionally boring. I threw on a set of mercury keycaps, and that makes the colors pop much nicer.
Actually making use of the analog keys though... it's pretty pointless. In order for them to actually act like analog keys, the game you're playing needs to believe you're using a controller. That brings with it other controller baggage, such as aim assist. Want to type in chat? Forget it, your WASD is a joystick so you can't use those letters. "Your entence ill look like thi." I ended up creating two profiles so I can turn the joystick mode on and off, but that's pretty annoying. Worse, some games try to switch between keyboard and controller mode based on your inputs. For example, testing out in Borderlands 2, joystick mode would work fine normally. But if I were to crouch, the game switches to keyboard mode and my WASD begins to operate in binary mode until I stop crouching. It'll do things like show me an Xbox "X" button instead of my actual action key of E. The game has to believe through and through that you're using a controller for this to work, and... well that's not the PC way.
The analog keys end up not bringing anything to the table. It still works like a normal keyboard and I like it more than the BlackWidow, so I'm going to keep it. But I wouldn't buy it again and I don't recommend you do either. It's a waste of money. Just get a normal keyboard because this one doesn't bring anything meaningful to the table.
For a long time, I wanted to get the Huntsman V2 Analog but didn't due to budget restrictions (I now have less restrictions). Now I can get it on sale for around $120. But, I've also discovered the Wooting Two, which seems to be a superior keyboard, but it would cost me about twice as much including shipping, import taxes etc. Then there's also the Huntsman V3, which people seem to think is even better than the Wooting, or at least a solid upgrade from the V2. But then we're talking almost three times as much money, which I can technically afford, but I don't think I should spend that much on a keyboard (so an option would be to wait for a sale).
Those of you who have experience with these keyboards: Please help me choose. I've never owned an analog keyboard before, and I'm not a professional gamer. I think I subconsciously want someone to say that the V2 is still a good keyboard, and a good buy for that price (I live in Norway) compared to the others, but do let me know your honest opinion.
Im considrring buying a razer keyboard that supports te new analog optical switches however id like to know personally from people who own and use tem how they are and if theres any downsides or things you dont like about it ?
i just got the huntsman v3 and i love it but had to turn of the build in controller thing since it is fucked up with some games. other wise i think it is a really great keyboard. i love you don't have to push the keys all the way down to trigger an in input

I posted on this subreddit a few months ago about an issue I was having with this keyboard, but as those 'fixes' seem to have been primarily provisional, I want to give ppl the reality. I might just be the only one experiencing all these issues, in which case, its a 'me' issue. (But I'm sure it’s not just me!)
First off, I have been in contact with multiple Razer support staff about some issues I’ve been having, and they have been great. It’s not them I'm faulting, it’s the product.
So, for context, I got this keyboard for Christmas (about 3 months ago), brand new. The first issue I had was its interference with Xbox One controllers when trying to play a game. The game, be that Rocket League, Elden Ring or any game requiring a controller, detects the controller as "Player 2" in a way. So actually, playing the game isn’t possible with a controller, unless certain windows settings in Synapse are disabled. Having made those changes, I still every so often launch a game and the controller is unresponsive due to the keyboard.
The most disruptive issue I've ran into is the keyboard being totally unresponsive out of nowhere. This, as you can imagine, can be very problematic especially in a competitive game where alt+tab isnt working, let alone WASD. As ctrl+alt+del wasn’t an option, the fix I found for this was to force shut down the pc on the tower. I rarely do this as I believe it to be bad practice for the hardware, but I was left with no choice. This has happened multiple times, and some when I first launch the PC. When possible, force closing Synapse through task manager fixed this issue on occasion, and sometimes had no effect. Another fix was to re-install / update the keyboards firmware which can be found with a quick google. Sometimes, being in 'demo mode' was the issue, but even that is a pain to solve.
More recently, I've ran into an issue when playing Rainbow Six Siege. (I highly doubt it's the games’ fault) This issue starts, once again, out of nowhere and is only 'fixable' by restarting the PC. The issue is keys being repeated and held down, when they are clicked just once. Say I was moving in a game, holding A to strafe left. Once the A key is let go, the input is repeated, causing me to continue the movement. To solve this, I have to tap D quickly to counteract the movement, which once again, is super unhelpful in a competitive shooter scene. - Note: Closing synapse when this issue is happening causes the board to become completely unresponsive, similarly to the previous issue.
I have tried all methods of fixing these issues, bar buying a new one. Reinstalling Synapse, drivers, windows updates, firmware, and the issues persist. As I work from home, having these issues are really inconvenient as they can happen from out of nowhere.
I've had razer products ever since my first PC back in 2016 and would call myself a Razer fanboy, from Razer mice to keyboards and even that RGB mouse mat :) These last 3 months, is the only time I have had a Razer issue over the 7 years of owning such products. It is a shame as I do think I will have to find a new keyboard as these issues are unacceptable for a near £200 piece of tech. The repeating keys, unresponsiveness and controller issues are problems I'd expect to see on a cheap, low-end keyboard - Not on something like this.
If anyone has had a similar experience to me, please let me know as I will feel a lot better about it ahah. Furthermore, if anyone found any permanent fixes to these issues, (that aren’t: "Close Synapse" or to reinstall a bunch of stuff) please let me know as the actual keyboard, its comfort, lighting and typing is great.
& if anyone from Razer support manages to stumble across this, feel free to get in touch, as resolving this would be ideal!
My Huntsman V2 Analog was repeating whole key inputs occasionally, around 24 strokes. It was happening once or twice per day with using 8~10 hours of typing, sometimes revealing password input to messenger app, including enter keystroke. It can be avoided by typing random 24 typing at notepad but it became PTSD when e-mail account password flew to my friend. Type-C or 3.2 Gen 2 Port, it didn't mattered for me.
Razer guys said it's hardware defect and not firmware or Synapse thing, I asked it twice to confirm that. I'm waiting RMA replacement coming from their China factory...
For coil whining, mine also whines when LEDs' are 100% at day one. It seems like a hardware design failure like most of RTX 4090 cards.
Well.. for me, Razer products were.....okay yet before Huntsman V2 Analog.
Blackwidow Chroma V2 served 3 years without chattering but keypad LEDs were broken just like all other users have within 1 year. Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 was horrible, chatters from 3 months of use. Razer phone cooler's clip was destroyed within 4 months since the clip was super fragile design, and sometimes power switch does not work. BlackWidow Chroma V2's wrist rest worn out before its first anniversary of use. I hate those fragile artificial leathers. Ergonomic(?) wrist rest pro, which one's fabric, is waaay better, but why all wrist rests bundled with Razer keyboard are artificial leather?!?!?!?!?!? I game with skiing on the wrist rest frequently.
I have things working though. Goliathus Extended Chroma, BlackWidow X Chroma, Tartarus Pro, Nari Ultimate serving fine over 1 year. Basilisk V3 wired variant is serving fine but it's under warranty yet. Well.. well.
I had those problems even with firmware updated. Then someone on reddit told me to use 3.2 gen 2 usb port on my motherboard and problem gone. They say on razer webiste you need 3.0 port but that is false.
Make sure you connect to usb type c or 3.2 gen2 port. Even using usb 3.2 gen 1didnt help but gen 2 done it.
Stupid design doing all that work from single usb cable. Second cable is just for usb port.
Also i can hear coil whine when keyboard is working. Razer replaced my keyboard with new one and same problem . If i knew all of these problems i would go with normal huntsman v2
I’m trying to figure out if these 2; what one to get - the analog version or the newer linear optical red switch version? Thoughts?
I had a Razor Huntsman v2 Analog Keyboard (This exact one listed here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QTXDBJ8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) for about a week and a half and sent it back asap however the problems it caused continue to exist. I had a Razer Naga Trinity about 2 weeks before I got the Hunstman v2 Analog Keyboard and it worked perfectly fine. But the moment I plugged in the Hunstman v2 Analog Keyboard? The following issues began to happen and continue to persist despite no longer having either mouse, keyboard, and through a complete system restore via windows options:
- Scroll Wheel of mouse randomly activating window resize. Letting the system idle for a few seconds corrects this.
- Caps Lock key randomly engaging without being pressed.
- Mouse Left Click sometimes engaging a shadow Left Click + Shift. Example: I'll be in discord and left click a DM or server and it'll open up discord in a web browser as if I had pressed Shift + Left click instead. Letting PC sit idle with no mouse/keyboard interaction makes it stop.
- Highlighting Text engages without holding left click and dragging. No way to get out of this unless I minimize/click out of the window and let it idle for a few seconds.
- Maximizing a window from the minimize on the task bar will sometimes want to reboot the program/browser into a new boot/window. Will do this several times until I let my system idle for a few seconds.
- Whatever this is, which is annoying when trying to shut down sometimes:https://streamable.com/fuppbz
I have removed Razer Synapse, I have deleted all drivers, I've individually deleted both mouse and keyboard drivers several times. My only hope was a complete system wipe but that didn't even get rid of it because some of these issues continue to happen.
I feel like the moment I plugged in the Huntsman v2 Something was hijacked somewhere on my motherboard via BiOS but I have no clue where to start looking. I'm at my wits end with these issues. Could someone point me in the right direction of where I should start looking to try to get whatever is going on disabled?
The most expensive analog keyboard from Razer, Razer Huntsman V2 Analog, has quite a few limitations imposed by the software, Razer Synapse 3. The keyboard is fine and the build quality is great, but the software limits how far we can go with analog keyboards. People that are looking into purchasing this keyboard, thinking that it might be useful on some occasions, are advised to check out the below limitations and re-consider.
- Dual-step actuation point
The Dual-step actuation point is advertised as being able to fit two actions into one keypress, which isn’t wrong. However, It might be different from what you think.
-
Double Input
Since one key is advertised to be able to trigger two actions with one keypress depending on the depth you pressed, some would think that you have double the amount of actions possible with the keyboard. However, that’s not the case. Two actuations influence each other. For example, you’ve set the key “a” to trigger “a” at the first actuation point 1.5mm and “b” at the second actuation point 3.6mm. You think It only triggers “b” when you bottom out the key instantly. The reality is, no matter how fast you press it, it will always trigger “ab” together. Some games or applications suffer from this. One example is League Of Legends, Setting “Q” to show the range of abilities(Q with Normal Cast) at the first actuation point and instantly cast it (Shift+Q) at the second actuation point just doesn’t work. The game reads it as “Q+Shift+Q” and ignores the instant cast key combination.
2. Secondary Function
At the moment of writing this, Synapse only supports keystroke combinations as the secondary function, at the second actuation point. Macros or mouse functions CANNOT be used, you can only use functions from the “Keyboard Function” Tab in Synapse. This killed many possibilities with the analog keyboard.
- Analog Inputs
-
Game Compatibility
This is the most known issue of analog keyboards, controller inputs. Some games just don’t support having a controller, a keyboard, and a mouse working at the same time. For example, you’ve set WASD to emulate the left joystick of controllers, aims with your mouse, and use keyboard inputs for certain actions. Games with the best compatibility will of course have no problem handling two types of inputs at the same time, but some (or most) games only allow one input type at a time. Games that only allow one input type mostly switch input modes automatically based on the input detected upon triggering. In these cases, Moving your camera around will instantly deactivate your left joystick, causing an awkward stop in movement. In the worst cases where you have to manually choose the input type in settings just kills the purpose of emulating a joystick with an analog keyboard.
2. Lack of Analog SDK
If Synapse doesn’t have the functions needed, the community can do it ourselves. But to start with, we need an analog SDK first, otherwise, we have no other ways of using and tracking analog inputs. Another analog keyboard manufacturer, Wooting, provides an open-sourced analog SDK for developers to create the functions needed and make games compatible. Razer doesn’t provide that, unfortunately. Right now analog keyboards are in desperate need of having a universal driver so that new games can start fully supporting analog inputs for keyboards without having them rely on controller inputs or setting up a billion input detectors for every individual analog keyboard manufacturer.
3. Gaming or Typing?
If you have set keys to emulate a controller, you might want to chat with other players in multiplayer games. Open the chatbox, begin typing your message, and instantly find out that WASD and other keys mapped as controllers are not working. To chat, you have to disable analog inputs first. It can be achieved by either creating a secondary profile for typing or type in hypershift. Creating two profiles for every game is a hassle and switching profiles in-game can get frustrating, as you might not remember which key is for switching to that specific profile and end up opening Synapse to check the keys. Typing in hypershift means you have to hold down another button while typing, which severely slows down your typing speed. There is no way to make hypershift a toggle as the developers decided it has to be a modifier key like fn.
- Onboard-Memory
-
Analog inputs requires Synapse
Analog remapping cannot be stored in the onboard memory of the keyboard, it can only store stuff like macros or keyboard functions.
2. Only Spectrum cycling as default RGB effect
Unlike the Huntsman Mini, you cannot switch effects on the fly with fn key combos. The onboard memory cannot store any chroma profiles, not even the quick effects from the lighting sections of the keyboard in Synapse.
Conclusion
Synapse limits the possibilities of the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog.
List of limitations:
- Action of the first actuation point influences the action of the second actuation point
- Only keystrokes/combinations as a secondary function of keys
- Some(or most) games are not compatible with both controller, mouse, and keyboard
- No open-sourced SDK for developers
- Typing with analog inputs can be a hassle
- Analog mappings require Synapse
Been thinking about getting a keyboard with rapid trigger. Since I already have the Cobra Pro (and Synapse installed) I thought the logical choice would be the Huntsman. Unfortunately, there aren't (at least that I can find) too many reviews comparing the two. With the V2 half-off in a lot of stores, is it better to just get the V2? I can't find anything that shows the improvements of the V3.
On a personal note, I do like thocky sounding keyboards (I lubed and foam mod all my mechanical keyboards) so if one sounds better than the other, that would be a big point for me. From what I can tell neither is easy to do since the keys are soldered.
Thanks!
I just got a huntsman v2 analog and I went to play Skyrim and my game thinks the keyboard is an Xbox controller and it doesn't act normal how can I fix this?
I want an analog keyboard so that when I play games with driving I can precisely control how much I steer. I'm not playing racing games perse, but games like Cyberpunk, GTA, or even just being able to control walking speed.
I was looking at the wooting 80he because I heard it has the best software which means maybe the best compatibility for games?
I'm not getting it for whatever that rappy snappy feature is or the quick response time. I want it for the analog control for driving mostly. And no I don't want to get a controller or steering wheel because I prefer keyboard and I'm not doing racing games.
When I was researching I saw a whole lot about custom stuff and I don't know enough about keyboards to understand. I'm using like a $50 mechanical wireless chinese keyboard so I'm not trying to min-max my response time and stuff.
I’m currently using a Razer huntsman V2 analog and it has been the bane of my life since this garbage launched. All the analog functionality does is conflicts and breaks nearly every game in existence. I’ll play some games and my character is just slowly spinning like in Hell Divers 2, I’m currently playing a playtest for a game and I actually have to physically unplug the keyboard from my PC so it doesn’t conflict with my controller for the game. I’ve had enough of it. The only think I like about it is the smoothness of the keypresses no clicky/bumpy feeling but the space bar is really loud and i hate how my mic picks it up
The only thing I want is a new razer keyboard and for it to be a quiet as possible. With no clicky bumpy feeling I live the smooth continuous feeling of the analog keys
So for the last year and a half I have been using the Huntsman V2 Analog. It’s an amazing keyboard but its not for me, too large, analog keys are useless and conflict with many games when using an actual controller and I hate the switches, they have no feedback at all. Since I have small hands I thought I’d go for a tenkeyless kb, so far I am looking at the Huntsman V2 TKL as it has pretty quick switches and I’m leaning towards red switches. I’ve also looked at the BlackWidow V4 75%. Any suggestions or recommendations of other kbs too? What should I go for in terms of size, switches etc. Primarily looking to play FPS games, Rainbow, CS, COD etc…
Edit: Orange switch vs reds?
Thank you everyone :)
If you're looking to just go Razer the Huntsman V2 tkl is pretty nice. I also like the deathstalker's low profile tkl. I would definitely see if you can try those out. The red switches are linear and kind of quiet. So when you mention feedback I am thinking that you might like a tactile or clicky switch keyboard. For the huntsman and Deathstalker those are purple switches. Check out sound tests and reviews online before you buy.
The blackwidow 75 is one of my favorites for sure the orange switches are tactile so you feel a little bump when pressing down but no click noise. If you want to change them you can. Or if you like them and one stops working you get replacements easily. That said you can actually remove the deathstalker switches and replace them with other optical low profile ones.
I've had too many keyboards, it can be tough to find what you like. If you have any questions just lemme know!
I recently got the blackwidow v4 75% and it’s straight up the best keyboard I’ve owned. Their new orange switches feel good af even tho they’re tactile, also it just sounds amazing.. i just wanna type all day. It took me like a day to get used to them. If money is no issue then I’d suggest the v4 75%. It’s also compact and just my favorite layout. Coming from a ducky one 2 mini when playing FPS, and blackwidow CHROMA V2 TE with their yellow switches when playing mmos or any daily things.
I was in Vegas this Christmas and passed by the Razer store. They had a Huntsman Mini Analog on sale for 100 dollars in the corner of the store and I picked it up figuring it was a good price for an analog board which are normally 150+ dollars. After doing some research it seems like the limitation of optical vs Hall effect switches makes Razer’s rapid trigger on the mini analog slightly worse and the actuation point only able to be set to 1.5mm and not any lower. There is also the 0.4mm dead zone at the bottom I heard abt. Is it worth returning and buying a wooting or v3 pro or is the difference negligible? And could the deadzone issue on the mini analog be fixed with just some O rings?
Pretty interested in trying it now since razer boards are more available in my country.
