Just got an email this morning on the extension of the $100 travel credit for the RBC Visa Infinite that I got as part of the HSBC migration. Emails as follow:

Exclusively for you as an RBC Avion Visa Infinite cardholder, we are happy to inform you that the additional travel credit you received as part of your migration to RBC will be offered for another year.

Travel Credit

Upon migrating to your new RBC Avion Visa Infinite credit card in April 2024, you received a travel credit which was made up of (1) your unused travel credit from your previous credit card and (2) an additional Avion Rewards travel credit of $100 CAD. The unused balance of the combined travel credit you received at migration is set to expire on April 5, 2025(1).

On April 8, 2025, you will be eligible to receive a new complimentary Avion Rewards Travel Credit of $100 CAD, which will expire on April 7, 2026(2).

To activate and receive your new travel credit:

  1. Sign in to Avion Rewards at www.avionrewards.com on or after April 8, 2025.

  2. Locate your Travel Credit on the Home page.

  3. Click the “Load Offer” button on the Travel Credit offer page.

  4. Book an eligible hotel stay or car rental of $100 CAD or more with Avion Rewards Travel using your RBC Avion Visa Infinite credit card to receive a $100 CAD statement credit(2). Your booking must be made online at www.avionrewards.com or on the Avion Rewards mobile app between April 8, 2025 and April 7, 2026.

Just saw this as well. Too bad I already changed my HSBC-migrated Avion VI to the BA VI after they wouldn't waive the AF for me for it. Wish they would have announced this earlier. Oh well, wonder if their system won't realize I changed cards and will still offer the new Travel Credit to me anyway.

Wife and I both have pretty basic credit cards (shamefully I've had the same cash back card for 15 years) and keep getting bonus offers from RBC for Avion or Westjet cards.

We each have just one card, pay for everything on card then pay off at eom. Good credit as far as I can tell.

Curious if anyone has experience with either bonus points system, and how they found utilizing said points.

Better cards out there. I have the Avion Infinite and it's my 3rd card behind the AMEX Cobalt and PC financial cards, both of which get our household the points we desire and use most.

Asking which rbc credit card is the best is like asking which is the best piece of shit in a dung heap lol. Since you say you travel, cobalt is just unbeatable for earning travel points. This is because MR pts can be transferred 1:1 to Aeroplan (and also BA avios, and 1:0.75 to Delta/cathay/AF-KLM/etihad, 1:1 to hilton, 5:6 to mariott bonvoy). Aeroplan pts are valued at ~1.5 cent per point, so you can multiply cobalt's multipliers by 1.5 for the earn rate. You end up with 1.5% base, 3% travel/gas/transit, 4.5% streaming, 7.5% groceries+ all foods & drinks. $155 AF. The welcome bonus of the Cobalt has also been increased extremely recently to 22k MR via referral code generated from a higher-tier Amex card that isn't the cobalt, instead of the 15k MR public offer. The alternative usual 15k MR + $100 third party cash rebate is still around but 7k MR is worth $105+, so slightly better. If your main grocer is walmart superstore/a loblaws chain however, then MBNA rewards WE MC is the best non-amex card for you. It earns 5x on groceries, dining, digital media/subscriptions, memberships, and utilities, 1x base, with an anniversary 10% bonus of all pts earned in past 12 mths up to 15k. Points can be redeemed against travel for statement credits or e-giftcards at 1cpp, or against statement credits for 0.83cpp, thus making it a 4.565%-0.913% cashback card. $120 AF, 30k pts welcome bonus worth 300 + $80 third party cash rebate. If you do get the cobalt, also get a cibc aeroplan no fee visa as holding it gives you a 5-12% discount on booking AP pts flights, making your cobalt card just that much better.

While not specifically a travel card, Amex Cobalt has very high earn rates for MR points in useful categories, which can be transferred 1:1 to Aeroplan.

The main way to make Avion products work in a competitive way is to use the RBC Ion+ for everything that fits into the 2/3x categories and then the Infinite for all travel purchases or anything that doesn't fit in the Ion+ 2/3x. Then you transfer the points from the Ion+ to the infinite.  As others have mentioned you can transfer these to BA avios with 30% transfer bonuses during times of the year.

There are many better travel cards. Avion is ok to churn for the rewards, but the reward earning rate on your normal spending is lacklustre and the travel perks are just average. If you already bank with RBC, you may be able to get some fee rebates by using multiple RBC products, but you can get almost all of the same products for free or cheaper from competitors. Recommending cards often comes down to looking at your spending habits. RBC's Avion Visa Infinite gives a slight boost in earning to "travel" spending, but even with that boost, the earning is less than with your Rogers card. What kind of travel do you typically do? What features on a travel card are you looking to take advantage of? Insurance? Lounge access? FX fees? Do you live near a hub airport for any particular airlines?
