RBC virtual debit card - did anyone figure out what it is for? Looks like it's a "card" for people that cant get a credit card. Right?
So it's almost useless.
I thought I could use it for online purchases and enable/disable it at will if seller is not reputable... I got that card, but now realized it's not what I thought it was.
Edit1 For example, I want to be able to use a credit card number to pay for sthg, then disable that number and generate another number for another vendor.
Is this not possible with any card in Canada?
Is it a card for people with bad credit? (so that they can have a card for online purchases directly drawing from their chequing account).
Edit2: I think I get it now.
RBC and these other review sites give you the impression that it is a solution to avoid DATA BREACHES (it is NOT).
So, it's marketing and bullshit to basically say:
"The RBC virtual credit card is for people who can't get a credit card so that they can pay for things online."
It is useless for people with credit cards that were looking for a way to avoid DATA BREACHES.
God, it's not that hard to explain things this way.

It's no different than a regular Visa Debit or MasterCard Debit. It allows those who don't want to use or can't get a credit card to be able to pay for things online.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Visa/MC Debit as it increases risk (yes, I know zero liability but your funds are held until investigation is over and they refund you. With credit card, it's the card issuer's funds being held). However, I do understand there's people who likes the option to use a Visa/MC Debit. RBC offers this as a virtual card option instead of incorporating their physical cards as Visa/MC Debit.
Thank you for the information

Hey! It's been a while since I've last used my RBC account, and for some reason I can't find my Virtual Visa Debit Card on the RBC app. Hitting Details or Manage Cards doesn't show it, I just get an option to lock my card (which is disabled). Does anyone know what's going on? It was working fine for me a few hours ago.
