I have checked and checked and nothing has changed apart from Apple Recovery services also appearing as an account recovery contact. However, this only shows on my iPad, not on my phone and not on my iMac. Bizarre. Can’t work it out. Dreading having to change my Apple ID password but will have to now, as from what I can see it is not clear whether a glitch or a real issue. ... You did the right thing in reporting to Apple and changing your passwords. I do think it’s some sort of glitch where they’ve sent a delayed email as I never received a confirmation email when first setting up my account recovery contact and was sent that email 3 months later.
