Just out of curiosity. I’m not about to make a purchase decision or anything, but if ANC were not a consideration, what Bluetooth headphones would have the best audio quality? “Best” can be evaluated as “best value for money” or “best of the best if money is not a problem” or whatever y’all think sounds great. Thanks!

Wireless and Audiophile aren't usually spoken in the same sentence, because wireless means an included DAC and Amp and that means that it's much harder to ensure the performance of the built-in hardware is any good. I suppose the closest you'd get for 2.4ghz lossless/low-latency wireless would be the Audeze Penrose. For Bluetooth, well BT is laggy and lossy, so arguably the Hifiman Ananda BT or Audeze Mobius? Can get something like a Fiio BTR5 and plug almost any pair of headphones into it and expect good results. Pick your poison depending on your budget in that case.

Hifiman Ananda BT hands down, nothing else on the market comes close: https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/ananda-bt.html If you need a cheaper option, check out the beyerdynamic amiron: https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/amiron-wireless.html People in this sub will complain that no such thing can exist because of dac/amps/bluetooth. The reality is there is lossless bluetooth, and cheap amp/dacs are measuring better than some of the more expensive desktop counterparts. Not only are measurements of apple's $9 usb-c adapter superior to a $200 schiit stack, no one has demonstrated the ability to tell the difference between it and a flagship schiit stack in a blind test when volumes are the same (obviously the desktop amp can drive things louder than the apple adapter, but the idea is the differences are inaudible to the human ear when listening at the same level) https://www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/comments/em2m4z/the_9_apple_usbc_to_35mm_adapter_performs_on_par/

I know I know Bluetooth isn’t the best of the best but I can’t stand having a cord to deal with. Just want something easy to wear to jam and dance. That being said - I would like headphones that are fairly light weight and won’t fly off my head when I’m dancing. I listen to a lot of edm and alternative. Heavy bass. I love being able to hear the mid tones as well. Probably will wear them at home and potentially out and about. Sound cancelling would be nice. I’m open about the cost because I’m willing to save up for some good headphones that’ll last me a long time.

It doesn't have to be extremely high-end, but something on the level of let's say a Sennheiser HD 598. Are there any wireless options on the market that are this quality (or higher)?

And in general, what are the opinons on the Sennheiser RS 175-U? How does it stack up among their wired lineup?

Actually, yes you have plenty of options. If you want the best sounding closed back wireless headphones without ANC, the $380 (on sale) Drop THX Panda is a great choice. They use planar drivers and have THX's AAA amp technology. It has LDAC for semi-lossless streaming. If you have an iPhone LDAC does not matter, it does not support it. If you don't mind open back, the HiFiMan Deva for $300 is an excellent choice. I had the drop wired version, the HE-5XX and they sounded awesome except for a slight treble distortion at high volumes. This also has LDAC. If you wanted to go cheaper, the AKG K361BT is a good option for about $100-ish. It does not have LDAC. If you needed ANC, one of the best sounding options is the Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless for $350 (on sale).

Is the statement true?

I discovered this opinion while researching what kind of headphones are best for a pure listening experience. Of the three main headphone categories, (Studio, consumer, and gamer headphones) most people during my research suggest a studio quality headphone even for gaming. Which, to further back up the statement, are usually wired most of the time with 2 wires from both cans even. Most likely because you just simply can't get the quality of sound from Bluetooth technology that you can get being wired in.

What are your thoughts and can you discuss facts and the science behind it? Looking forward to reading what people will say

Hi there,

I would appreciate any recommendations, preferably under the 1 000 EUR/USD price tag.

Some of the options I'm possibly considering:

- Focal Bathys
- Sennheiser Momentum 4

I've also heard a good thing or two about the Apple AirPods Max gen2, despite being a 'larger brand'. Not sure about their build quality though when compared to audio-dedicated companies.

As a reference, I currently own and like my Kennerton Vali, Sennheiser HD800 and Sennheiser HD600. I drive these off my Schiit while on my PC, however I'd like to check if there's something I could enjoy to use with my phone and for other mobile needs.

Hi! I'm looking for a pair of wireless headphones for $900 or less and sound quality is my number one priority in my purchasing choice. I would like to purchase wired headphones but I figured that a wire would be too inconvenient as my main means of listening to music is on my phone while commuting via the train. I'm looking for a good pair of wireless headphones that hold up to scrutiny by an audiophile audience if such a pair exists. I'm well aware that Bluetooth headphones compress music as well as generally tend to have a "tinny" sound to them so my main priority is looking for a pair of headphones that minimize that. Thank you! :)

Hey everyone,

Hopefully I don't stir up the audiophile crowd, but here goes. Looking for something to use at home for gaming, music and movies/shows. I live a wireless life due to the convenience of being able to move around quite freely and do things around the house(to an extent), so something wireless is a must as all my peripherals are wireless already. I'm leaning more towards closed-back due to privacy reasons but I'm open to open-backs as well. Budget around $200-$400 for the headphone, and I'll planning on getting something like the FiiO BTA30 Pro to get aptX codecs on my desktop for latency. Don't need a mic as I already have one. Currently considering(in no specific order:

  • Beyerdynamic Amiron

  • Audio Technica M50xBT2

  • Grado GW100x

  • Sennheiser Momentum 4

However I'm open for suggestions of all kinds, as well as any tips someone would want to share. I don't deal with sound professionally in any way. I've used gaming headphones my entire life, but everyone seems to say to get a "good" headphone instead of the gaming crap, so now I'm invested in this world and am looking to get something actually good.

I've had some Sennheiser Momentum 2s for about 4 years now and they're starting to fall apart. I've been having trouble finding info on wireless, portable headphones that are primarily intended for serious music listening with most places just recommending a Bose QC or that one Sony can with all the letters in the name and nothing else.

I already have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pros but I also spend a ton of time on my phone with headphones connected via Bluetooth. I'm fine spending around $500, if I have to spend more then it'll take some convincing.

I listen to a plethora of genres, from modern pop to jazz to film scores and classical to electronic music. I really enjoy the openness and clarity and shine of my DT 1990s and I prefer a more analytical, balanced headphone vs a bassy a bloated one.

ANC is preferred but not totally necessary if it has good passive attenuation and I literally never use the mic in my headphones now so that's not a factor. Pretty much just want music = good and then hopefully it's portable and decent battery life but not a deal breaker.

Bluetooth and 3.5 DAC capable headphone?

Audiophile Headphones with optional bluetooth?

Hi, I’ve been looking for audiophile quality headphones which have a 3.5mm jack which could take advantage of a DAC while also having bluetooth capability. Does such a headphone exist? I was considering the audeze maxwell as it has a 3.5mm jack and bluetooth. Would I able to casual switch between bluetooth and 3.5mm for quality and convenience.

For context: I’m trying to take advantage of A sound blasterX AE5 DAC and also utilize bluetooth occasionally.

r/HeadphoneAdvice on Reddit: Looking for Wireless Audiophile Headset/Earphones Upgrade (up to $1000) – Recommendations?
May 20, 2024 -

Hey everyone! I’m currently using the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT, but I’m looking to upgrade to something with superior audio quality and comfort, preferably wireless (headset or earphones). I want to dive deeper into the audiophile world, so I'm open to any high-end recommendations within my budget.

Budget and Location:
I have a budget of up to $1000. I’m located in the US, so I have access to a wide range of online shops like Amazon, Best Buy, and Audiophile-specific stores like Headphones.com and B&H. I’m also open to recommendations for international shops if they offer better options or deals.

Preferred Tonal Balance:
I’m looking for a well-balanced and accurate sound profile, something versatile enough for a wide range of genres and gaming environments. I’m not necessarily a bass-head but do appreciate a solid, punchy low end. What I’m most interested in is a wide soundstage and crystal-clear mids and highs. I love sparkly treble that isn’t fatiguing and provides a lot of detail and immersion.

Usage:
I’ll primarily be using these at home for gaming and music listening. I enjoy immersive experiences in games like Star Citizen, Squad, and Escape from Tarkov, which have incredible audio design and realistic soundscapes. Music-wise, I listen to a variety of genres, from classical to rock to EDM, so versatility is important. Comfort is also key, as I often use my headphones for long sessions (3-5 hours at a time).

Past Gear Experience:
I’ve enjoyed my Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT for its convenience and decent all-around performance, but I find the soundstage a bit narrow, and the clarity could be improved, especially in the mids and highs. I also notice some fatigue during extended gaming sessions. I’m looking for an upgrade that can offer a true audiophile experience while still being wireless and comfortable for extended use.

Any suggestions that meet these criteria would be greatly appreciated!

Is there any reason you need wireless? There are a lot more choices for wired and if you're only using them at home/at your desk then a wire shouldn't be too much of an issue imo. Wireless: Audeze maxwell. might be a bit heavy but it's the best wireless headset on the market. wired: I'm going to fit a headphone system (so, including dac/amp) into the $1k budget. For dac/amp, topping DX3 pro+ or fiio K7 BT is all you need (and both have bluetooth if you want to stream to them from your phone). Both are around $200. I'm going to suggest headphones in pairs. The reason for headphone pairs is so you can have 2 headphones that sound different from each other for variety. I will also suggest some one-and-done ones. Hifiman Ananda Stealth/Nano (around $300/around $500) and Sennheiser HD6XX (under $200): the ananda is a lot more resolving and have wider soundstage compared to the HD6XX, but HD6XX has amazing vocal intimacy and naturalness. Between stealth and nano, the stealth is a little less detailed but also a little less bright. The nano might be too bright (too much treble) for you and you might want to use EQ to tame it a little Hifiman Sundara/Ananda Stealth (around $250/around $300) and focal Azurys/sennheiser HD620S (open-box around $440/around $300): azurys/HD620S are there in case you want some isolation from a closed back. They're also quite easy to drive (azurys is a little easier to drive) if you want to take it to go, and just grab an apple dongle or fiio JA11 for your phone. You could also grab a bluetooth adapter for it like the qudelix 5k or fiio btr15. In terms of sound, both the azurys and the HD620S will have a little more punchy/dynamic bass compared to the hifimans. They have decent soundstage for closed-back headphones but the hifimans easily smoke them in that regard. Hifiman Arya Stealth (around $650): one and done. This headphone is incredible and one of the best deals in audio. Meze 109 pro (around $650 used): one and done. I would try to get these for around $500-550 used but these are great headphones. Not as wide in soundstage or as detailed/resolving as the arya but built amazingly and sounds great. I suggest trying to find stuff used, or for the hifiman stuff go on their webstore and look under the "open-box" or "refurbished sections" for the best deals. I also recommend trying to find stuff on r/AVexchange , FB marketplace, or eBay. Sorry for the long response, but I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any questions you have :>

r/HeadphoneAdvice on Reddit: Audiophile wireless earbuds ?
March 30, 2022 -

Hello everyone,

First, sorry for my approximative English since I'm a non native speaker.

I am very new to the audiophile world, and it's complicated for me to find any informations since when you search something on google that can be buyable the results are 90-99% scam website with affiliate links or robots generated pages...

Despite I am new, I know there is differents dogma in the audiophile community, and one of them is that wireless is NOT really audiophile/HIRES, and also that earbuds doesn't compete with headphone. But I don't know if it's true or not.

But, in the workplace, I would like to use wireless earbuds for convenience reasons (discretion, being able to only have one buds without having the other one hanging around, and also for when I am walking). Headphone is for home.

I would like to buy an audiophile music player soon, because smartphone is not really good playing hifi/hires musics, and because I want to decorelate and decentralize my numeric stuff. Its also complicated for me to find a good music player that doesn't cost one or two month salary with all that fake reviews and "best list", but maybe it will be another topic later. But I will use it mostly with wireless earbuds.

SO my question is :

Is there any audiophile (hifi/hires) compatible (or best rendering at least) wireless earbuds ? Or should I just go nobrain for Bose sport earbuds with my smartphone, because no wireless earbuds (or maybe no earbuds at all) is able to render hifi/hires sound properly ?

Thanks you in advance for your help.

Hello, your English is fine, try visiting r/languagelearning if you want to improve your English writing/reading skills, they have a lot of resources there. Wireless/Bluetooth is not really as good as wired IEMs/headphones. But we can get as close as possible now with TWS adapters like the FiiO UTWS3/5. Or even more with just the Bluetooth amp/DAC dongles like the Qudelix 5K. For the audiophile music player or DAP, no need for that. You can get an old used LG V20 or some other LG smartphone and it's probably going to perform the same. That way with the LG phones, you got two phones for extra backup or something, especially now with phones removing the microSD card for the storage. For the music player, just get Neutron Music Player or UAPP. Those two are the most recommended ones for Android. They have a lot of extra features. You can do (parametric) EQ with $8 Neutron Music Player or UAPP on Android. If on PC, the free (Peace) Equalizer APO. There are free apps on Android(/Apple) that can also do a good enough job, but most of them have those graphics sliders instead of parametric or just plug the numbers in EQ. EQ can also be used to help with channel or ear imbalances. So IMO, if you want audiophile quality, then get the FiiO UTWS3/5. If you don't mind the wires, get the Qudelix 5K. Here's a bit about making IEMs (and headphones) wireless through TWS adapters like the FiiO UTWS3/5: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/uw4uq1/earbud_advice/i9pu79s/ Here's a more direct link for the adapters/converters required for the different IEMs and headphones: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/t3v7wp/looking_to_make_my_arias_wireless/hyv14dn/ Here's a specific way for headphones and UTWS5: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/uxs4y2/hifiman_bluemini_r2r_dongle_availability/i9zzldq/ This is a bit more info on the Etymotics + UTWS3/5 combo, like the comfort or usability: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/uxyg3w/recommendations_on_earphones_or_whatever_will/ia0x0yx/ For the Qudelix 5K or dongles, no need to spend more. These days even in the $50-100 range you can get a lot of well-reviewed TWS earbuds with many of the extra features from $100+ earbuds. For the TWS earbuds, check out Scarbir's website, he reviews a lot of TWS earbuds under $50/100: https://www.scarbir.com/latest-reviews . Also look into Sean Talks Tech and Kenneth Tanaka on Youtube, they often cover the sub-$50/100 price range (they cover a lot of the budget QCY and Haylou models) and they also have easy timestamps for features that you may want to compare, like ANC, latency, etc. You can check out this thread for more expensive ($100/200+) TWS earbuds, but they still discuss cheaper budget sets there too: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/going-fully-wireless-iems-too-soon-or-are-we-there-yet.861024/page-3036 . Overall, right now the most talked about one is the ~$200 Technics EAH-AZ60. Here's a bit more info on the $50-100 TWS earbuds range: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/ugclar/what_are_the_best_wireless_earbuds_on_the_market/i6zdv90/ Here's a bit more info on TWS earbuds-related stuff, like ear tips: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/uojle4/good_wireless_iems_these_days/i8f8nx7/

But I don't know if it's true or not. Ah yes, you found the stupid overly critical side of audio. Wireless codecs have come a long way, for any practical purposes, aptx or aptx HD are just fine. If you're doing other stuff you don't need perfect quality, and most modern devices will support aptx HD which is very close to wired anyway. These things are something you can worry about with equipment that costs multiple thousands and where you actively sit down and just listen to music, they don't matter that much if you just want good sound at work.

r/HeadphoneAdvice on Reddit: Best wireless earbuds for audiophiles
August 19, 2024 -

I'm looking for the best earbuds. I own the sony XM5s and want better but can't get a clear answer. I don't care about ANC, I heavily care about how good the treble sound, and my price range is $500. I am not going to buy 8 pairs of buds to see which sound the best to me. I've been recommend the AZ80s and Gemini 2s by people who aren't audiophiles. A few places I looked said to get Final's 8000 2s, but said the treble is lacking, which I have an issue with.

I've asked multiple places, mainly 30 different Google prompts, 10-20 review sites that all claim that X brand is the best, then say that about 5 other brands, and then list some name brand flagship on whatever top 10 list they have which they themselves said were inferior audio wise, and I've looked on YouTube to find that all of those guys only test name brands and claim those to be the best while ignoring a vast majority of great earbuds. I also went on an other sub reddit to find people who only recommended the crowd favorite (the Gemini 2s). At this point, I'm very hesitant and want to steer away from what most people would buy.

I want the best sounding earbuds, and at this point, I don't care about any other feature. I know there isn't one answer and I know everything in this industry is subjective, but I want a solid recommendation before I spend half a grand on something. I'm leaning towards Final's 8000 2s, but am willing to hear any recommendations, even if it is for the gemini 2s!
