I have the V8 Origin, and I'm pretty sure the only difference from the Absolute, Animal, or other variants are the included tools. If you're going to get the Origin, you'll probably want to also get the fluffy head for hard surface floors (I don't have carpets either), which will add about another $100 to the cost. Also, the Origin doesn't come with a number of other useful tools that you may need (crevice tool, mattress tool, etc.), so consider that as well. Overall I'm quite happy with the V8, but in hindsight I would probably have opted for the Absolute package as I ended up spending more overall to get the tools I needed. Hope this helps. r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Help. Just got a Dyson v8 Origin. Right choice?

I only really have a few rooms in my house that are carpet and need cleaned. I paid $300 or so for it. It’s great but the “max” mode barely lasts to clean my few rooms. I couldn’t believe how much dust and hair and crap it sucked up though! Wow. Are there better vacuums for smaller areas that I can get for the same , or a cheaper, price? I just want something small , cordless, and easy to use so it’s not a “chore” to vacuum.

Hello, I am looking into buying a dyson v8. We just recently moved in so our apartment (65 square meters big) has only hard floors, but we plan to add some carpets later on. I see that the cheapest one where I live is a Dyson v8 origin, but I can not find any reviews for it or any threads on reddit. How different is it than absolute, motorhead and animal? Prices: - Origin 280 EUR - Absolute 350 EUR

Would it be worth to to for the absolute considering the price difference? Ty!

Dyson v12 is 550 EUR, is it worth the 200 EUR difference?

Dyson has the model V8 or V12 and then they all have several trims Origin, Absolute, Motorhead, and Animal. Origin is usually the base trim, Animal and Motorhead are middle trims, and Absolute usually includes the fluffy powerhead. Usually, the higher trims include more accessory tools. If I had all hard floors I would buy a Dyson V8 Absolute as long as it includes the fluffy powerhead because it does that much better on bare floors. The Dyson V12 has a bigger bin but isn't that much better. In the U.S. LG and Samsung cordless vacuums are better values usually including 2 batteries and a charging stand for the same price as a Dyson but the availability and value of LG and Samsung may be very different in your country. Also if longevity and suction power is your top concern skip all cordless and get a corded bagged canister like Henry, Miele, or Sebo.

Hi,
Im looking for a compact stick vacuum cleaner under $200USD for hardwood floors and came across this. Is it worth buying from the official store and is there anything to know before buying refurbished vacuum cleaners?

I do not recommend buying any used refurbished vacuums. The battery is the most common failure point both dying and wearing out. You may be getting a used battery with a refurbished vacuum. I wouldn't risk it. If you really want a Dyson V8, there's a brand new Dyson V8 Origin Plus $289. Or this LG CordZero A912PM $169. It doesn't come with a combo tool but it comes with a charging stand.

Is this vacuum worth it for a sale price of $279 US? Reg price is $429 where I live. Debating because needing another vacuum for a 1400 sq foot house both hard floor and carpet in bedrooms, ours recently stopped working. Any opinions appreciated!

If this is your only vacuum or your primary vacuum a cordless vacuum will not cut it for carpets. Cordless vacuums do ok on hard floors and can lightly clean carpets but they do not have the suction and agitation to properly deep clean carpets. I'd suggest getting a corded vacuum for weekly deep cleaning and a cordless vacuum for lighter daily cleaning. The Dyson V8 is not bad, I think it's Dyson's peak in terms of performance and value. Are you in the U.S.? I wouldn't get a Dyson V8 Origin for $279 when the Dyson V8 Absolute is just $299. The V8 Absolute adds the fluffy cleaner head, a crevice tool, and the hair screw tool. The LG CordZero is pretty good too and it's a better value. The LG CordZero A912BM $298 comes with 2 batteries, a mini motorized brush, and a charging stand. The LG CordZero A938KBGS $398 comes with 2 batteries, 2 powerheads, and the self-emptying charging stand.

Dyson V8

Shark IZ862H

This will be a gift for my mom, they have a mostly carpet house, but the kitchen, bathrooms and entry way are hardwood. I'd say its about 75/25 carpet. They have two dogs, neither shed excessively. Allergies are not a significant issue.

At my house we have an old Dyson cordless one and my mom likes it, so I'd like to get her something similar as a gift. This will be her first cordless vacuum.

I see reviews comparing the IZ862H to the $1,000 Dyson, but my girlfriend is adamant about Dyson being the way to go.

The Shark is about 60$ more, so my question is if the Shark is worth it? Or should I go with the Dyson? Or is there one I'm not considering that would be far better in a similar price range?

Thanks :)

Larger apartment with all hardwood and a cat. From what I read on r/vacuumcleaners, we should have a soft roll brush for the hardwood.

I can’t tell if that’s what this comes with or not. Did we make the right choice? Will this be OK on hardwood? Do we need another attachment?

Thinking about buying cordless Dyson for the first time and appreciate it for your suggestions!

I found something called “dyson v8 absolute 2022”, which would mean there is also a version from 2023? How do I tell the difference?

Secondly, what is the difference between v8 and v8 absolute? The motor seems to be the same(?) but correct me if I’m wrong…

Is the Dyson V8 origin worth it at a $230 price tag?
February 23, 2023 - The position you're in is that you don't have carpet. If you had all carpet I would say Henry Quick every day of the week. Here in the UK it's on offer for £220 which is cheaper than the V8 here currently. The dyson hands down has the better attachments. However the Henry Quick...is hands down the better unit.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Is the Dyson V8 Origin a good choice for me? Need help
March 6, 2023 -

Hi everyone,

I've found a Dyson V8 Origin on Facebook Marketplace that is said to be hardly used. The seller is asking for 150 AUD, which is around 100 USD (still open to nego as well) so its a catch price for a name brand like Dyson. Honestly, I've never bought a cordless vacuum before so Im cluesless about them and ive seen may posts saying the v8 is not worth it but that was in the case of its original price not the price that im planning to get it for. I've always used those heavy corded vacuums (bucket-like ones), but that was when I had a bigger apartment.

Now, I'm a student living in a small studio around 18 sqm. I don't want to buy a big vacuum like the ones I used to have since it'll take up too much space, so I was thinking about cordless, thinner ones like this V8. My questions are:

  1. Does it work on both wood tiled floors and carpet? I have both types of flooring in my studio.

  2. Is the suction strong enough to take off dirt and hair from the carpet? I'm a clean freak due to my allergies, so that's why I'm looking for a vacuum even in such a small studio.

  3. Lastly and mor IMPORTANTLY, how do I test used vacuums like this so I don't get scammed? What should I test and look out for?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey guys,

I was planning to buy a new vacuum cleaner for my mom for christmas. Only problem is, I can't decide which one of these, is the best deal/decision. I attached the images of the accessories that come with these.

Dyson v8 Origin = 265 euro
Dyson v12 Origin = 379 euro
Samsung JET 85 Complete = 399 euro

My question is, would the v8 Origin really be enough? It costs less than the others, but is it as good?
The cleaning is mainly about floor tiles and a lot of dog hair.

Thanks!

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Will a Dyson V8 Absolute work for my situation?
September 12, 2023 -

Reading through this subreddit, I know many people recommend a corded vacuum as the main vacuum. That isn’t really an option for me as the way my apartment is struxtured, I’m not looking to plug and unplug constantly between switching between floors, and the location of plugs won’t work for my carpeted stairs.

Therefore, I’m looking for a cordless vacuum. I bought I believe a Black and Decker cordless about a year ago before I rescued two cats. It barely works now and started smoking the other day so it’s time for a new one!

Budget: under $200 is ideal, however I am willing to pay the extra money for this specific dyson model as it is on sale at my local department store.

Needs: my apartment is mostly carpeted, two levels, including the stairs is all carpet. My bathroom and tiny kitchen are both hardwood, so ideally something that can be used on both. I also plan for my next place to be no carpet at all, so the duality is a necessity for me. Lastly, I have two cats. Want something that works for pet hair and cat litter as well.

The dyson appeals to me for the filtration system as both of my cats have allergies, so the less dust the better. Is this a good investment? I also am looking at the two links below from Amazon that are a bit more in my budget. However, I’m willing to pay more $$$ now if it’ll save me in the long run with replacing these cheap machines annually. Also open to other model/brand suggestions if you have!

I think the thing is that a cordless definitely is not ideal for your situation. You will eventually run into the same problem with a Dyson and have spent a ton of money on it. Cordless vacuums are best for quick pick-ups and aren't very durable. The cat thing is especially concerning, Dysons do a pretty terrible job with getting pet dander out of carpets. I also wouldn't suck up cat litter with a bagless vacuum. I think your options are buy a Dyson and ruin it and have a subpar clean apartment. Buy cheap cordless vacuums, have a subpar clean apartment, and buy a new one every 6 months to a year after you destroy it lol. Or you could do what this sub recommends, get a bagged cannister, get a 15 foot hose extension, and make sure it had at least a 25 foot cord, have an actually clean carpet and keep the vacuum for 20 years. Miele, Henry, and Sebo could all do this for you. There are some unconventional options like getting a backpack vacuum but that's a way less practical than just a long cord and a lomg hose.

I completely understand why you want a cordless for your situation. Please avoid the Wlupel, Honiture, and other no-name cordless vacuums. You really get what you pay for. They usually have weak suction and their batteries wear out quickly, sometimes in less than a year. Also, whenever something breaks there are no parts or repairability. The Dyson V8 is an OK cordless vacuum, it is better than the Wlupel or Honiture for sure. Pros: Dyson makes replacement parts, higher quality than unknown brands, it's cordless, and it has a hepa filter. Cons: 7-8 minutes run time on max power, battery will wear out in 3-5 years, not the best for deep cleaning carpet, cyclone and bin build up odors, and when you empty a bagless vacuum dust is released back into the air. If you really want a cordless vacuum I think that other brands offer better value and easier maintenance. LG CordZero A9 A912PM $228, Samsung Jet 60 $199 are both cheaper and have easier to clean bins. The LG CordZero Kompressor A925KSM $379 comes with 2 batteries and a charging stand. For better carpet cleaning and better filtration I'd recommend the Kenmore Intuition BU4050 $161. This is not a BIFL 20 year vacuum, but it's small about the same width as a cordless vacuum, lightweight, more powerful than a cordless, and it uses hepa bags so you don't touch the mess and you don't release it back into the air. When I'm lazy and I use my cordless vacuum on carpet, it's ok, but then when I use a corded vacuum on my carpet it absolutely feels cleaner to my feet. It's your choice what to buy, I would highly recommend that you test any vacuum for your house thoroughly before your return window closes.

Best Buy has a new version of the V7 that seems very similar to the new V8. The only difference I can see from the product pages are the colors and the hair screw tool being included on the V8. I thought that the V7 and V8 had suction power / battery life differences as well but they seem the same on Best Buy's pages. Does anyone know what the differences actually are?

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Dyson v8 absolute vs V12 Origin
April 10, 2025 -

Hi guys.

I am looking for a cordless vacuum for my 2-room apartment.

I currently have a roborock s8 for cleaning floors, which works great (i don't have any carpet, only hardwood), and an old bulky corded vacuum that annoys me and is hard to mobe around.

Thing is, I have a cat, and I want a cordless vacuum as a secondary vacuum to:

-deal with small spaces where the roborock cannot reach, -properly vacuum random litter the cat throws out of the box -vacuum the cat hair from the sofa, cat tree, and furniture

I was looking at dyson v8 absolute which is around 300 euros in my country (Romania). The dyson v12 origins is more expensive but it also has an attachment for cleaning pet hairs from the sofas, so I think that would come in handy.

I also know about dysob v12 detect slim but I don't think the laser thingy justifies the 600 euro price point...and since the roborock deals with cleaning the floor it would be a waste of money ro buy that one.

Which one do you guys think I should buy? Recommendations are welcome as long as it's cordless vacuum and deals with pet hair well.
