I have the Defender on mine, glass screen protector works all good, problem is that the action button is super sensitive and it’s continuously opening the camera and taking photos, My son has the Symmetry, and it keeps popping the edge off the same glass screen protector as I used, but no other problems that we have came across Answer from Dry-Concentrate-3173 on reddit.com

Does anyone know how the protection and feel of the Otterbox Defender Xt and Defender Pro compare for the iPhone 17 pro? I'm torn between getting these 2 cases. I know the size and weight of the pro was noticeably more than the XT for the iPhone 15 pro I'm upgrading from, but it looks like they have made some changes to the Defender Pro case for the iPhone 17 series.

UPDATE: Created a list of case brands that have unveiled their iPhone 17 cases, please check the bottom of the post! Will try my best to update the list as more cases are released! (Only cases with Camera Control button will be in the list)

Hi everyone! The new iPhone 17 is almost here in about a week! I created this thread as I thought that we can all share and explore potential phone cases to get for our new iPhone 17 as many brands/manufacturers have released an early look at their iPhone 17 cases.

I will start first with this case I came across on social media, which is the Benks ArmorPro series. All their designs are growing on me, but I think most of us who want a clean look will opt for the basic black carbon fibre design! It has a raised camera ring that extends all the way around the camera bump to ensure raised protection.

However, I have also seen other case brands do cutouts for the individual lenses and sensors instead of a big open cutout as the camera bump is too big this time around. I feel that individual lens cutouts can help to prevent dust/scratching across the whole area of the camera bump, so I guess that’s one of my main gripes about this case. But case in point, it is Apple who made the camera bump so damn huge, and our beloved case brands are just trying their best to work with what kind of device is developed in the end.

Another brand that is going to launch soon is Caudabe, currently using on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Loving this case so far, so I bet I’m gonna love the iPhone 17 Pro Max version too! Based on their case silhouette preview, it seems like Caudabe is opting for cutouts for the camera lens instead of the entire camera bar. All these brands are heavily recommended by tech Youtubers, and I totally get it!

What do you guys think? Do you all prefer a big open cutout for the entire camera bar, or just cutouts for the individual camera lens and sensors?

I look forward to reading your thoughts and suggestions for iPhone 17 cases! Please feel free to share!

r/iphone on Reddit: Get a Stronger Case for iPhone 17 Pro
November 15, 2025 -

This is more of a public service announcement. The iPhones 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are made out of aluminum. It is scientifically known that aluminum is softer than steel and titanium. Therefore, minimalist cases that were adequate for iPhones X to 16 Pro are no longer protective enough for the 17 Pro.

Another relevant fact is that the 17 Pro is the heaviest standard-size Pro phone since the steel 14 Pro. The 17 Pro Max is a little lighter than the steel 14 PM, but it still weighs more than half a pound. My previous aluminum-body phone was the iPhone 7 carried in a thin Spigen Liquid Air case. It was ok because the phone only weighted 4.87 ounces, or a little over half the weight of a 17 PM. It means the 17 PM would hit the ground with almost double the kinetic energy as the 7.

I’ve seen several people with dented phones in an Apple TechWoven case, which is a standard thin case. Any case of that thickness class should be avoided.

This is a short (but not exhaustive) list of stronger / thicker cases:

  • Mous Limitless

  • Rebel GEN7

  • Beats Rugged

  • Pelican

  • Otterbox

  • Speck

  • Urban Armor Gear

  • Bellroy Venture

Yes, you can get the invisible case costing $140/year a.k.a. AppleCare. Bear in mind that it doesn’t cover cosmetic defects, like simple scratches and dents.

Hey everyone! I just got the iPhone 17 (the normal one) for Christmas and I wanted to know if anyone has a case recommendation for daily usage. I'm not looking for anything extreme or special, just a case that protects my phone from pocket falls. Also maybe some recommendations on the screen protector. Let me know your experience, would be nice to have a nice design too :D

Recently got this case for my 17 Pro Max since the maker of the case for my previous phone (ArmadilloTek / Caseology) seems to have gone out of business.

Never owned an OtterBox before but I’ve seen them on phones before and they seemed to be built like tanks.

Pros:

  1. Really nice heft to the phone with it installed

  2. Good grippy texture

  3. Wireless charging and MagSafe work perfectly with it

  4. Understated and classic design

  5. With the revision the camera control button works perfectly

Cons:

  1. Doesn’t feel as tough and well built as previous generations of their cases

  2. The plastic shell under the rubber layer creaks when you squeeze it

  3. On the pricey side for a case

The creaking of the plastic is the biggest issue for me. It dramatically reduces the premium feel of the case. For that alone I may end up seeking out another option.

I haven't had a Defender Pro for a long time, since until recently they did not offer it with MagSafe capability, and I pretty much exclusively use MagSafe charging. However, I did recently pick one up, and really, really like it. Except the creaking annoys the crap out of me, and seems to be getting worse the more I handle the phone. Specifically, it seems as though more areas are starting to creak that were not previously creaking (this is what I mean by getting worse). I grabbed a Defender Pro XT, which is what I was previously using on my 15 Pro Max, and thankfully it does not have the same issue (obviously not the same construction, so that explains it). I really like the Defender Pro but the creak bothers me more than it probably should. The grip on it is unmatched, IMO.

I have one too, don’t use it though. I think I have the design before the revision but not sure. I bought it because it was on sale for something like $50 on Amazon. Anyways, I haven’t had a Defender case in a long time. Last time I had one was on a 7 Plus. They’re still big bulky cases, but not nearly as bad as they used to be. It works fine, I like it well enough, but the extra heft, eh, doubt I’ll use it. I’m keeping it, maybe I’ll slap it on when I go camping, hiking, bicycling, etc. but day to day use I’ve settled on the tech woven. I’m still looking at cases. The tech woven is great but not completely covering the phone frame around the front bugs me some kind of way.

Hey! I am getting my teenager an iPhone 17 for Christmas. I need something that will protect it to the fullest but not too bulky. I use the defender otter box but she would never. I would prefer under $50 but definitely something that will keep it safe when it drops multiple times. Thank you! In Canada!

Hi, not sure if I’m doing this right. New-ish to posting on Reddit, but wanted to see if anyone recommended a case for my iPhone 17 pro max (silver) coming in soon? It’s my first phone change in a while so I’d like to take good care of it. Working with a 12 pro max that’s barely functioning at this point lol.

Definitely want something protective, don’t care too much about bulky vs not bulky, but a nice style would be great! I was looking at the Rengke cases and they looked great, but have been told there are cheaper ones that do a better job. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

EDIT: Is this not the correct format for it? I noticed I’m being downvoted and wasn’t sure of the reason. If I should delete it, please let me know. Thanks!

I’m torn between the silver and the orange but before I pre order I wanted to find a case first. I like cases that are hard plastic, not silicone, and are glossy (makes it feel like I have a better grip on the phone) but don’t like how cases are basically 3/4 of the phone and don’t fill in between the cameras and flash.

I was looking into velvet caviar, burga, and casely but I don’t like how the VC cases feel but love the other 2. Anybody have any suggestions on cases or other brands I should look at?
