April 15, 2023 - Fern, owning one myself and being short, I can say it's at least an A tier chair. The reason BTOD ranks it high is because it was already an A chair for their normal-sized reviewers, but for their tall reviewer it is actually good. And they rank it even higher now because the padded version is definitely an improvement in comfort (I don't own that but tried it). I also disagree with parts of this list.

February 11, 2024 - To be fair, they consistently say in their reviews that you should get a Herman Miller if you want a smooth rocking-style recline, and that Steelcase chairs aren’t designed for that kind of recline. More replies More replies More replies More replies ... Got a used Mirra from office furniture liquidator store for $200, best decision ever. ... Crazy that they made the classic Aeron D tier, the Amia belongs in B tier, if your taller or over 200lbs then I could understand. ... Anyone who puts THEIR OWN products on a tier list rather than suggesting it as an alternative, automatically loses all credibility.

September 8, 2024 - I'd say most chairs from A and B are comparable, just personal preference. ... I settled on a Mirra 2, which I paid $375 brand new. The guy also have embody for $800 and Aeron for $600. Aeron is good but i have it in the office. Embody is also good, but it's not 2x good than Mirra 2. ... I had the Embody and Aeron Remasted and they’re very uncomfortable for me. In my tier list it would be D tier

Hey all, Ahnestly here! I review chairs on YouTube and after collecting comments from my community mixed w/ my own personal opinion, I create an annual ultimate chair buying guide video for every budget and height (currently has a 99.3% like ratio, which is insane!). The mods have allowed me to link the video below, but it is NOT mandatory to watch. I'll list out the chairs first and link will be at the bottom for anyone who cares to watch that.

Preliminary notes: People wonder why companies don't make chairs for really short or really tall people. I wish I could show you guys my video's analytics...the vast majority of time watched occurs in the average height section. These companies are out here to make a profit, and sometimes that means targeting the majority, not the minority. Please keep that in mind as you will see a lot of overlap with these chairs.

reddit.com › r/buyitforlife › the best and most comfortable ergonomic office chair to buy now?
r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: The Best and Most Comfortable Ergonomic Office Chair To Buy Now?
October 19, 2025 -

An ergonomic office chair is one of the mosst important items for your home office I bet, but you may not know how to choose the right one for your needs. I'll help you!!

You can find countless reviews from long-time users on Reddit about the value of ergonomic chairs. Brands like Herman Miller or Steelcase are often mentioned due to their popularity and outstanding quality, even though they can be quite expensive. However, there are many other great alternatives that can ensure your 8-hour workday is as comfortable as possible.

Few KEY points to consider are: budget + purpose + specs + warranty

Sort these out and you'll get the right chair, TECHNICALLY...the final and best is….comfort/fit

Regardless of whether it's technically the right chair, under the 4 main subjects, it might be uncomfortable, and no one wants that. Regardless of the types, models, and brands of the chair, you need to ensure that your chair is comfortable for working. If you want to buy online, you should check the level of comfortability they are offering. The comfortability of the desk chair depends on the materials used to produce the chairs.

Budget, no point looking at a one thousand chair, when you only have $500 to spend

Purpose, no point buying a chair, when you need a stool.

Specifications, if you weight 250lbs, you don't want a chair only for 150 lbs weight limit. Next, the armrest of the working desk is a crucial part of the chair bc to concentrate on working fully, you need to set the armrest in the proper place. Adjust the height of the armrest so that the seated elbow height is parallel to the armrest. Too higher and too lower of the height of the armrest provide an uncomfortable working experience.

You should also check the height adjustability feature of the chair, I'd highly advise this.

So what are the "BEST" office chair companies today?

They must be store.hermanmiller.com (Herman Miller) and steelcase.com/products/office-chairs/. These 2 are the TOP on the market but of course they're pricey. If you're willing to pay, let's go with them.

Tier 2 brands are Xchair, Haworth, Branch, Sihoo and Flexispot. They make the best mid-range office chairs on the market today.

Best specifc office chairs models for each that are highly recommended for every budget at the moment:

- Herman Miller Aeron, Herman Miller Embody and Steelcase Gesture are high-end options $1400+.

- If you want to find the best choices under $500, here you are:

  • Sihoo Doro C300

  • HON Ignition 2.0

  • Branc Chair Pro

  • Haworth Breck

  • Flexispot C7 Chair

- Steelcase Karman - Haworth Fern are really worth buying if you have $1000 budget.

Hope this helped you!

Are you sure you didnt add an extra 0 to that figure because 20k for a chair is wild even if we exist in different tax brackets. Imo if its 2k, thats also a lott to drop on a chair cuz at that price point youre basically paying for luxury materials and not exactly just ergonomic. But honestly the price tag doesnt really bring much to the table, the best kind would be the one that fits your body which doesnt always need to be expensive so please keep that in mind. Like tons of people actually find good old steel case chairs better than the classic herman millers even tho hm ones cost $$$$$. If i was in your place id basically do this: Start with the classics: Herman miller aeron/embody, steelcase leap/gesture, humanscale freedom. These are the gold standards for people who sit all day, already what most execs swear by. Check RV: this website basically compiles the most mentioned products along with their reviews from people whove used them long term. So cross check the models you like online with the ones available on this site for honest opinions. ( linking here ) Actually sit in them: youll need to test the lumbar support, arm rests n all even for the shortlisted ones so visit your nearest store Consider refurb please: a lot of people with money overlook this but a used aeron with a full warranty is still one of the best chairs in the world Also jbtw there are boutique european brands (wagner, wilkhahn etc) that make chairs in the multi thousand range with wild designs. Great for something unique but don’t expect a massive ergonomic jump over the mainstream top tier.

Most folks with your budget would start with Herman Miller Aeron, steelcase Leap or gesture, Humana freedom highbaack. You should be around or under $2000 USD with any of these options.

Warranty, if you run a business, you don't want to keep buying a new chair every year, cos regulations, or whatever, you want a chair to last. It's very likely, that if a chair had a 5 year warranty, it'll last 5 years. If it only had 12 months, it might only last 14 months, and no one wants to go spending 250 every year or so…. Might as well spend 500 and get a chair that'll last 10 years (for example) especially if you can get it discounted or on a sale.

Hey all,

The list is getting crazy long, so this year, I've included a spreadsheet guide to help organize things (youtube descriptions aren't ideal for this kinda stuff).

These are all chairs I’ve reviewed personally and think they offer the best seating experience (tried to give nuances as to why the chair made it into the list and who it would be good for, but kept it brief bc the video is already long and I have full length reviews on each chair)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQEkEfQs5vs

Video breakdown (time stamps are provided):

  • 5’3 (160cm and under) from $0 - $400

  • 5’3 (160cm and under) from $400 - $1,000

  • 5’3 (160cm and under) from $1,000+

  • 5’4 - 6'2 (163cm - 188cm) from $0 - $400

  • 5’4 - 6'2 (163cm - 188cm) from $400 - $1,000

  • 5’4 - 6'2 (163cm - 188cm) from $1,000+

  • 6'3+ (191cm+) from $0 - $400

  • 6'3+ (191cm+) from $400 - $1,000

  • 6'3+ (191cm+) from $1,000+

  • Recommended Active Seating chairs

Please check it out and happy chair hunting!!

ALSO, A REQUEST!!! PLEASE give me feedback (incl errors) / chair suggestions to check out in 2024. ESPECIALLY YOU TALL OAK TREES OUT THERE!

Hi there Dan. Hope you're doing well. I was hoping you could help me out with finding a chair just right for me based on the following body specs / leg behavior: I'm 5'8" 235lbs w/ hip problems, back problems, lumbar problems and so on. I have a neck hump from laying back in chairs and holding my head up w/o support with neck issues (continuous neck pinched nerves from my condition of Tourette's Syndrome EX: Neck jerk tics.) I "have to" lay back in my chair and kick my feet up to be comfortable while moving positions constantly EX: cross legs, one foot under my butt, alternating. I constantly tighten my body and can rarely relax and notice that having more cushion under my legs/thighs gives me relief but the addition of a pillow cushion from amazon doesn't do the trick because I need something stationary w/o the ability to move. I have restless leg syndrome and have bought gaming chairs in the past from named brands and rock in my chair to the point where the welding breaks. Sorry for all of the info in this comment but I have tried so many chairs in the past and always had issues. My budget is around $1-2k USD and would save me so much grief and pain. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I am looking forward to hearing back from you <3

Hey Dan how are you? I've just come across your vids and you've blown my mind with the options out there. I was wondering if you could help me out. I recently had a secretlabs evo xl titan and hated it for being to firm and being uncomfortable to lean back/recline in. I tend to slouch and slide down the seat and looking for something hell comfy and quality. I'm 186cm and 135kg (big boi in Australia). Can you share any recommendations or starting points?

It’s a guide. Sure, it’s subjective. However, it’s based on many people at our office actually sitting in the chairs and giving opinions on how each of us feels each particular chair is. Then those opinions are collected and rankings assigned. Also, based on what we gather with our customers from information and the years and years of experience we have working with people. It’s also generalized for a larger majority of consumers. Nothing that we ever say is the end all be all for every single person. Additionally, price doesn’t always equate to “better“, especially in terms of comfort. We do list the pros and cons so you know where our opinions are coming from. And its a snippet. Trying to put a bunch of information in a short amount of space is always a task in itself. But this is, and what we mostly aim to do is, put another tool in the consumers toolbox in trying to help people make the best informed decision they can from shopping online. Every one of these chairs, unlike most lists and guides you will find out there, we actually have had in house. We also welcome, dialogue and debate on it. The more information we can gather and collect, can help us better understand putting guides out in the future.

Most sites that do reviews on things are paid by the companies they review to do them. You are really going to have to do some research here. One of the big things to look for is how long the warranty is, and use that to adjust for price.

I spend 8 hours a day sitting at my desk and I'm looking to invest in a proper ergonomic chair. My budget is above average. I'm willing to pay for quality, but I want to make sure it's worth it.

My main concern is my size: I have a smaller frame, and I'm terrified of ordering an expensive chair online only to find out it's too big for me or the seat depth is too long.

I’ve been browsing online and I'm really confused by the pricing. I see high-end brands selling chairs for $1000+, and then I see "dupes" on Amz or other sites for $100-$150 that look almost identical.

Is there actually a massive difference in build quality or comfort between the high-end ones and the cheaper lookalikes? Or is it mostly just branding? I don't want to overspend, but I also don't want to buy a cheap chair that will break my back in 6 months.

Thanks for your help!
