r/gamingsuggestions on Reddit: I just got my first gaming PC, what games should I absolutely play from the last decade?
September 18, 2023 -

I always loved gaming, but never had the fund for a decent setup, so I sink thousand of hours into games like Heroes 3, Age of Empires 3, GTA San Andreas, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, several low-tier older MMORPG-s, and browser games. I'm financially at a better place now, so I surprised myself with a good custom built PC, it have a Ryzen 5600 and an RTX3070. What games should I put on my wishlist from the last ~10 years, that were absolutely bangers and are must play? My favourites are games with huge and well detailed open world, and city builders (like AoE3).

For now, my list is the following:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (already bought it)

  • Witcher 3 (with DLC-s)

  • Hogwarts Legacy

  • Starfield

  • GTA5

  • Elden Ring

  • Dark Souls 3

  • Fallout 4

  • Age of Empires 4

r/gaming on Reddit: What are some good single-player games for PC?
October 24, 2024 -

Looking for some good single-player games to play on PC, here's what I've already played because I can see them being recommended before I even post this:

  • Red Dead 2

  • Both Spider-Man games (Spider-Man 2 isn't out on PC I don't believe, so just Morales and the first one I've played.)

  • Cyberpunk

  • TWD Telltale

  • Skyrim

  • GTA V

  • All Dark Souls and Elden Ring

  • All of the Uncharted's

  • Ghost of Tsushima

  • Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Witcher 3

  • Silent Hill 2 Remake

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, so yeah. Don't recommend those.

They also don't have to be story games either, they can be any genre. Survival, Open world, Story-based, Puzzle games, anything.

Thanks!

r/gamingsuggestions on Reddit: Getting back into games (PC) after 13 years. What are the must play titles, open to any genre, since Skyrim?
September 12, 2024 -

Long story short: I had kids and started a new career, the last game I played was Skyrim on launch. The kids are old enough that they're starting to entertain themselves and work is going good. Just built a new PC with a 4080 Super. Throw some PC games at me, what did I miss?

On the list already:

  • Mass Effect 3 (played the previous games)

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (played the previous games)

  • Cyberpunk 2077

  • No Man's Sky

  • Deadlock

  • Counter-Strike 2

r/gamingsuggestions on Reddit: What are the best PC games of the last 6-7 years
August 18, 2025 -

I've been out of pc gaming pretty much since before the ps5 came out. Building a new pc next week and looking for some games that are exclusive to pc (or much better on pc) that I can play.

I like AAA games, usually big open world rpgs, but im honestly feeling burned out on them, so ideally something different. As much as I love games like ghost of tsushima and the assassins creed games, lately I download them, open them, play for 10 minutes and get bored, then delete them.

For PC series, I liked total war, mount and blade, and city builders, and to be honest didn't really stray from that much. I haven't ever really got into indie games but would like to try some out.

In your opinion, what are some must play games on pc?

Titanfall 2 - the single player campaign is the best of the best video game version of a James Cameron summer block buster movie. Witchfire - still in early access and being made by a tiny studio of hard core gamers, but is hands down the freshest take on stagnant fps gameplay I've encountered in YEARS. Has an incredible cadence and flow to its challenging combat that feels incredibly satisfying once you get into it. Minishoot' Adventures - my personal favorite game of 2024, and it wasn't even close. Just an absolute gem and slice of pure gaming heaven. The Finals - phenomenal fps PVP combat with fully destructible environments. From a bunch of former Dice devs that were behind the best Battlefield games. Last Epoch - indie ARPG with the best/my favorite skill system I've ever encountered in any RPG/ARPG. Doom 2016/Eternal - just the right amount of over the top power fantasy umph fps. Baldur's Gate 3 - Arguably the best game ever made tbh, the world and it's characters react to you to a genuinely jaw dropping degree. Enshrouded - custom voxel engine with a fully destructible world that has the best sense of exploration I've experienced in a game in YEARS. Shredders - phenomenal indie snowboarding sim-lite. Best snowboarding game I've ever played (or any snow sport). Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 Clair Obscura: Expedition 33 Cyberpunk 2077 Forza Horizon 5 - If you've never played these, they are a treat, just fun open world arcade-ish racing joy. Disco Elysium - really impressive crpg Hades - incredibly influential roguelite that has had elements of it copied by innumerable games in a very short few years. Palworld - the best Pokemon game in YEARS. Elden Ring - most recent "souls" game, and best of the bunch Death Stranding - Kojoma's most recent - crazy/weird/unique totally original game Resident Evil 4 Remake - actually worthy of the original Stray - really cool exploration/cat game. Tinykin - fantastic unique indie game that cribs from Pikmin in a great way. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - basically the sequel to the original 3 movies. Split Fiction - best of the best co-op play. Inscription - really cool/unique game that toys with meta knowledge of games Manifold Garden - great puzzle game POE2 - still in early access and not ready to play seriously yet, but looks gorgeous and is fine to play through the campaign once for now Arc Raiders - should be releasing soon-ish, keep a close eye on this, it's from the same studio as The Finals. Battlefield 6 is shaping up pretty solidly, but maybe wait a week after release to make sure EA doesn't pull any shit before you buy. Borderlands 4 comes out in a couple weeks. Pro tip, if you're building now, go for a 9800x3d and a 9070xt, and treat yourself to one of the modern QD-OLED's 360hz or faster, prices have come down a lot and the screens have gotten better in the last year or two.

Elden Ring Outer Wilds Baldur's Gate 3 Hades Cyberpunk 2077 Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Disco Elysium Resident Evil 4 Remake Sekiro Red Dead Redemption 2 Satisfactory Inscryption Metro Exodus The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 (PC release) Balatro Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth Animal Well Sifu Risk of Rain 2 Dead Space Remake Citizen Sleeper Helldiver's 2 Rimworld *Given that you're burnt out on big AAA open world games, from this list I would recommend checking out Outer Wilds, Hades, and Disco Elysium to start off with.

r/gamingsuggestions on Reddit: Just got a Gaming PC. What games are essential? I'm primarily a console gamer.
September 6, 2024 -

I am primarily a Console gamer. I love my PS5. So most games I play on that. However I had to get a desktop computer for work and decided on a gaming one cause why not. I am obviously going to download sims games with mods now that I have that capability and Stardew valley will be great on this bigger screen. But what other games are just better on a PC. I'm not looking for Red dead redemption, COD or Assassins creed games like that as I play those on my console. What is essential gaming for the PC?

Do yourself a favor and download the epic games store right now. They give out 2 free games each week to keep forever. Each month they give you 5 free assest for game design too. Free to keep forever... Also steam frequently has sales, humble bundle frequently has sales, green man gaming does too, kinguin a cd key site. So don't pay full price for games always. Great games: depend on that you like. Some cool ones: Saleblazers, mirthwood. Mount and blade 2, kingdom come deliverance, ultima online free shard [old school] Guild wars 2. Great and free Once human. - good and free Warframe - excellent and free

The biggest difference is probably going to be the availability of simulation and strategy games. Most games that reasonably can be ported to console, are. Technically some of these exist on console, but I can't imagine they're that good or popular without mb&k. Strategy: 4X: Civilization is a good first taste of turn-based strategy games. It's good, accessible to new players, and the most recent one (Civ VI) is regularly like 90% off. The next one is coming out in February, but I wouldn't recommend waiting. It won't be as complete of game as 6 for a while. I recommend waiting until it goes on sale and getting the platinum edition because it includes the integral Rise&Fall and Gathering Storm expansions. Tactical: XCOM 2 is was made by Firaxis, like Civilization, but has a much narrower scope. The focus is on coordinating a handful of troops in individual missions tied together by a lighter strategic layer. Recently it's started going as low as 95% off every few months, so definitely grab it on sale. The expansions are good, but not as pivotal as Civ's. RTS: I think Age of Empires is still my favorite RTS. 4 is good, and I really enjoy the remastered versions of 2 & 3. If you prefer a faster paced game to a more methodical one, this might be better for you. All are on gamepass. Rogue-lite: If you just want a bit of strategy without things getting too complicated, FTL: Faster than Light is a phenomenal game. Don't be afraid to start on easy, though. Puzzle: Maybe you'd rather play a game where you're figuring something out instead of making arbitrary decisions. Tactical Breach Wizards just came out and I played 25 hours in 4 days. Love it. Also want to give a shoutout to Into the Breach, a game with a similar feel, from the makers of FTL. Grand Strategy: If you want to dive in the deep end, it's not gonna get much deeper than this. Paradox Development Studios are fairly uncontested as the kings of this niche. Which game is for you is lately dependent on if you like a certain era of history (or sci-fi). Their space game, Stellaris, is probably their most accessible. Victoria 3 (Industrial era), Hearts of Iron 4 (WWII), and Crusader Kings 3 (Medieval) aren't too far behind. Europa Universalis 4 (Age of Exploration through Napoleonic) is my favorite, but also the most overwhelming. The sequel is nearing completion, but that means the game is much older than the relatively new others. It was in constant development for over a decade after release and is consequently somewhat bloated. Though this depth is why I love it, it also makes it more intimidating to new players. I was going to list other genres, but I'm running low on time. I'll come back later if there's interest.

This is an incredibly vague question OP, too many games to list. Are there any specific genres that you enjoy?

In my mind, this is something that consists of three lists. Any game I list here is for the single-player component, so certain classics (Unreal Tournament, Quake 3) will be left out.

Classic titles that still hold up splendidly

  • Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Monkey Island 1 and 2, Day of the Tentacle (all these games have also been remastered)

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (both 1 and 2)

  • Max Payne 1 and 2

  • DOOM (especially with mods)

  • Quake (remastered recently)

  • StarCraft (remastered)

  • Half-Life 2

  • Heroes of Might and Magic III

  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (could also pick up the sequel/remake, Dark Athena, which includes Butcher Bay)

  • Thief II

  • Beyond Good and Evil

  • Prince of Persia reboot trilogy. Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones.

  • Dead Space trilogy

  • The Mass Effect trilogy (remastered)

  • Portal 1

  • FEAR

  • Psychonauts

  • Fallout: New Vegas

  • Prey (2006)

  • Fallout: Tactics (I know this is controversial -- more on this later)

Classic titles but they don't hold up so well

  • Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 (remastered)

  • Planescape: Torment (remastered)

  • Fallout 1 and 2

  • Deus Ex

  • Half-Life (better if you get Black Mesa)

  • System Shock 1 and 2

  • Thief

  • Arcanum

  • Star Wars: TIE Fighter

  • Star Wars: Dark Forces, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

The best games in the past decade

  • Wolfenstein reboot. New Order, Old Blood, New Colossus.

  • Disco Elysium

  • Elden Ring

  • DOOM reboot. DOOM and DOOM ETERNAL.

  • Titanfall 2

  • Deus Ex prequels. Human Revolution and Mankind Divided (more than 10 years but sneaking them in here)

  • Portal 2 (also sneaking in)

  • Alien: Isolation

  • Hades

  • Prey (2017)

  • Sleeping Dogs

  • Watch Dogs 2

  • Control

  • Halo Infinite (for the campaign)

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare reboot (also for the campaign)

  • Psychonauts 2

No doubt people are going to take issue with some of the titles on my second list. Listen, I grew up with the original Fallout games. When everyone else was playing Final Fantasy 7, I was the only kid in my school who was playing Fallout 1 because it came out in the same year and I never had a PlayStation. But playing a turn-based game where you only control a single character is incredibly tedious and boring. It was terrible then and it's still terrible now. I don't get how the hardliners at No Mutants Allowed actually enjoy that sort of gameplay.

Personally, I can still play Deus Ex fine but maybe it's just a sign of my age. I've recommended the game to people about a decade younger than me and all of them said it feels real janky. The conceptual stuff about the game (unfettered capitalism, transhumanism, technology and ethics, the role of government, philosophy, conspiracy theories) is still great but it is also incredibly corny, in both endearing and off-putting ways. It's like the developers went out of their way to make Hong Kong as ridiculous and racist as possible (the music was banging, though).

Omitted BioShock series cause I didn't think they were that great, probably cause I couldn't help comparing it to System Shock. I was disappointed that there were no survival horror or RPG elements from the game that billed itself as the spiritual successor of System Shock. Felt blase that the plasmid powers were more like reskinned weapons rather than special abilities. Everyone talks about the big "would you kindly" twist but I wasn't shocked by it like everyone else because I saw it coming. I didn't know exactly what the surprise would be but I knew to expect it. Throughout the game, I was deeply suspicious that the entire narrative focused on the conflict between Andrew Ryan and Frank Fontaine, yet the only person you ever talk to is some dude named Atlas who never tells you his real name.

What was the actual shock value in learning you were a puppet and being forced into killing Andrew Ryan? Did anyone who played the game feel any desire to spare Ryan in the first place? If the big watershed moment in the game is watching your character do the thing you were going to do on your own anyway, is it actually a cool theme or subversion? Or is it actually a random, unrelated plot point that didn't change anything except turn Ryan's death into a cutscene? All the twist did was save me a mouse click.

All the art deco in Rapture was cool, though.

So I'm building a new PC which will have:

  • Ryzen 5 5600x

  • RTX 4070 Super (soon)

  • 32 GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200MHz

  • 1TB NVMe SSD

I'm super excited about it and I would like you to suggest me the first game I should begin on the new spec, I'm considering following;

  • Silent Hill 2 remake

  • Dragon's Dogma 2

  • Dragon Age Veilguard

  • Black Myth Wukong

Currently I'm also playing Elden Ring, RE2 Remake and Baldurs Gate 3, so my taste in games is pretty wide, but I would like something flashy and nice looking for a new adventure. Open to other suggestions besides this of course! Thanks!

Give The Last of Us Part I a try. It ain't anything like regular zombie games. The game is an emotion ride. If you're into Action RPG, try God of War 2018, then Ragnarok. Good story, excellent gameplay. If you want open-world RPG, try The Witcher 3. If you're just into some adventures, puzzles and gunfight actions, Uncharted 4. If you love Baldur's Gate 3 so much and crave for more things like that, Divinity Original Sin 2. If you want something originating from Baldur's Gate (not 3) but more approachable, try Dragon Age: Origins. If you wanna be a superhero, try the Batman Arkham series. Start with Asylum, then City, Knight and lastly Origins. If you wanna be a superhero but more into newer games, try Marvel's Spider-Man. If you wanna play something FPS with good stories, try Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite. You can skip Bioshock 2. If you just want intense-action FPS, try Doom and Doom Eternal. Don't buy Call of Duty. If you want interactive movies, try Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. If you want peak stealth gameplay, look into the Hitman reboot series. If you want all FPS, open-world, good stories and char development, try Far Cry 3. Far Cry 4, 5 and 6 are basically 3's copy-paste. However, there's Troy Baker in 4 and Giancarlo Esposito in 6 though. If you want racing, Forza Horizon 5 is the way to go. If you want racing but Forza Horizon is not hard core enough, try F1 2024. If you want Bethesda games, there're Skyrim and Fallout 4 for you. Look for mod guides and follow them before playing. If you want GTA games, try IV for story. Look for mod guides, too. Then, try V and prepare yourself for VI. If you want GTA games but not really GTA games, try Red Dead Redemption 2. Red Dead Redemption 1 is out on PC now, but it's $50, and it's just a remastered, so it isn't worth the money. I don't think you'll even read this, but hey, I'd be glad if I can help haha.

For context, I have Xbox game pass, so any game on that you'd recommend is good.

I like narrative based games that make you connect with the characters and world, but that's not a strict criteria, it should just be really fun.

What I've heard great things about is Outer Wilds, so I'll try that but if you have other recommendations please let me know

Hi,
Finally I completed my build (and long time dream) and I have high end setup ( mainly 4090 , 7800x3d , aw3225qf).
Coming from a very low end PC for years & no console - I missed quite a few games in the recent years.
So ... what games did I missed ?
Just finished Red Dead 2 - didnt like much at first but towards the end I coudlnt belive it eneded (and how it ended) I don't think I ever was so attached to a story in game.
Also finished Space Marine 2 (first buy I did once I got the PC... nice game but too short)

I already got myself a little list I will try go get good prices in black friday :

  1. Wukong

  2. Cyberpunk + DLC

  3. GOW Ragnarok

  4. Ghost of Tsushima

I am still thinking about Elden Ring and BG3 - I am not sure I will survive souls game and turn based games seems weird - probably will depent on the price I could get in blackfriday.

Any other games I should consider ? What games am I missing?
BTW my main way to filter between games is steam reviews.
Genere is less important I guess if a game is good is good.

First of all I would like to thank you all for the great comments - I think this is is the most activate sub I have personally seen in reddit so kudos to you guys.
Unfortune for me I have to do other things then playing didnt even had time to play once this week.
I got some research to do on the long list of games suggest here - I will favorite the post and will come back to it again and again.

I decided I will start with Cyberpunk for now and I will try to see which of the games suggested will get the best
