I watched a video on how Razer Cortex is a good software to improve performance on games... However Im still a bit skeptical about it
After despair with the awful centre M, crashing Playnite and finding everyone lied that Steam big picture mode is great, I installed Razer Cortex and omg it's great. Not only is the handheld mode brilliant, and it automatically detects and shows art and launches games from every launcher, it also has on screen performance options the same as the standard Claw ones, and it has an option for remote play from your pc apparently using the sunshine/moonlight code.
It absolutely smashes every other launcher I've tried. Try it!

My pc specs are GT 1030 AMD Ryzen 3 2200G and 8gb DDR4 RAM. I will freely offer more specifications but i already have geforce experience. Should i even try and download it? i have no Razer gear so.... if that helps.
Ive been playing modded mc for a while now and have noticed some hate towards game boosters/optimisers on this subreddit, but I have noticed something (at least with my system):
Razer Cortex actually does a very good job of boosting performance by allowing for my game to use more RAM (around 1GB extra RAM to use)
So my question: is Razer Cortex actually any good? Or is something else behind my performance increase?
SPECS:
Type: Laptop
CPU: i3-4005U
GPU: Intel HD 4400
RAM: 4GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Pro
From what I could find out it clears out old files Windows files, defragments hard disks, and turns off non key window process during games. Rather or not it will help much I guess depends on how much RAM you have.
(I not used cortex but I left the links I used to get the information above)

Edit: to what you were asking about if its shake oil. the process being turned off would free up some RAM but if you knew what you are doing you could turn them off yourself like the video Alex did on the windows 10 video (although you probably want need to go that extreme)
Probably a stupid question but do you use optifine?
I decided to try it out and it straight up crashed the game I was playing instantly and screwed me over. Anyone have good results with this?
so I've been using RazerCortex for a couple of months and I haven't seen any improvements and I know that there are a lot of people out there who say that it's useless and only slows down the PC, but I wanted to know more with your answers and whether I should keep it or not
I picked up a Nari Essential headset from Best Buy for 35 bucks (reg. $99) and got them today. Setting them up, I ended up installing Razer Synapse 3 and, after reading some reviews about Cortex, slapped that puppy on my machine and HOLY SCHMIDT, what a difference it makes on my system:
Asus Prime H270-Plus
Core i7-7700
32GB DDR4 @ 2400Mhz
Samsung Pro 980 M.2 PCIe 3.0
New XFX 6600XT 8GB
34" 3440 x 1440 @ 144Mhz
I bought Cyberpunk 2077 today and played it before I installed and ran its optimizations on the game and it wasn't terrible the first time. Was doing OK with the games optimization tool. But damn! Once I ran the Cortex optimization on the game, getting 100+ FPS at full resolution. Settings are medium-high.
If you know you know and if you don't, get in on it. Excited to work through my library and see the difference.
when i download the launcher and try to open it it just shows a new file called razer install error. can anyone help? thanks
Never used Razer Cortex before, but thought it might help with running games. Anyone else tried using this? It seems to free up LOTS or RAM and feels a bit quicker in general.
I'm testing with it at the moment... Will see if there is anything noticeable.
I have an Nvidia GTX 1060, I don't think it's possible to overclock- my old GPU let me do that from its dashboard, to an extent, and it got me through a whole lot.
Anyway, at one point I installed some stuff that came with my old Razer mouse- namely, Razer Cortex.
It helps somewhat, I think? I imagine the main thing that does anything is that it closes explorer.exe & 'launches on gamedesktop' whatever that actually means. I'm not a big fan of Razer though personally, especially when it's come to their programs-
Is there a better(preferably free) alternative to this for minimizing programs/boosting performance on a Windows PC?
UPDATE: AFTER 3MO I FIXED IT (i think)-
what i did was go into razer cortex, go to system booster, speed up, then press "Restore to windows defaults" or smth. Then restart. I did this then uninstalled the razer cortex software, and it hasn't crashed since, although at the time it wasn't crashing as often as usual.
ORIGINAL POST- IGNORE, PROBLEM FIXED ^
So around a month ago, I was using cortex and had auto boost on. Had been using it for years without issue. Like other people on this subreddit, I experienced freezing and crashing when closing games. I turned off auto boost and the freeze didn't occur for a week. But then, just over a week later, my pc froze in the same way whilst watching youtube. From then on, my pc has been randomly freezing in the same way. It has gone days without doing it but then boom, frozen again. I sent my pc into a shop and they couldn't recreate the freeze. Is my pc permanently f'ed? What do I even try to do?
I know, I too thought these didn't do anything. but when I tried it on my macbook air, it made a difference. What it did was free up some ram for me - about 250mb worth. I stutter a lot less in Fifa 15 now. Give it a try, it was free to download off their site.
I wouldn't reccomend razed cortex unless you have an old pic with a lot of crapware running in the background. All it does is close a lot of background tasks. It's a lot easier to just manually close all the big ones and set the game to high priority. Plus razer is always running a game scanner in the background at all times.
It was too hit/miss for me, for example Xcom 2 was never detected so I had to manually start/end, sometime's I'd forget etc.
So I download razer cortex because someone suggested that It may help to boost the performance of my laptop and I downloaded it when I installed it I immediately tried it. I turned On the boost for valorant but it made it worst. Before it was stable around 60-80 fps but now It's very unstable and fps drop every single game. Is there a way to revert the settings the way they are before? I also tried removing the boost but It's still the same.
Once you go cortex you never can go back to ex

I watched a video on how Razer Cortex is a good software to improve your FPS. However I'm still a bit skeptical about it
With all the gaming laptops I owned so far, there was always an issue of background processes that bothered me. Over years, I tried number of software/apps to tweak and optimize those. And of course, played around a lot with settings and software configuration manually too. But it was kind of a headache having to use the same machine for work and gaming and trying to maintain setup that suit each of those profiles.
Yeah, a rant, I know, but think this might be a common problem. And solution- its available right there with Razer Cortex, a real one-click free solution that immediately helps purge memory of 3+ GB of stuff. And one-click button to restore it all back too! Couldn't have asked for better solution.
What in the ever-loving fuck is wrong with the Razer devs? It's like they thought, "You know what'll really optimize performance? Giving the GPU a fucking sauna day." This isn't a software; it's a digital Molotov designed to turn your rig into a paperweight.
Who in their right mind greenlights a feature that tells your GPU, "Hey, let's just turn off the fans and see what happens"? Were they trying to figure out if you could hit a new record for GPU heat-death?
You pay a premium for hardware, and these couch humping cucks think it's a good idea to fart a program that acts like a goddamn arsonist. Itโs a complete fucking joke. This isn't a "glitch"; it's a monument to incompetence, a glowing testament to how little they give a shit about your gear. That's all the rant, fuck razer, fuck their devs for putting out a POS software.
Kept wondering why my PC recently started to become unresponsive to soon becoming almost frozen completely, after 'closing' a game. I almost went to the route of reinstalling windows before I saw a few people on other threads mention Cortex being the culprit. I tested it and not even 3-4 seconds after 'cancelling' the boost, my PC was, as usual after closing a game, unresponsive. Few apps would open, like browsers (Brave/Chrome), but whitescreened or completely frozen by themselves. Hovering over other apps or Win+D works, but nothing beyond it. So, if you're in a similar boat, disable Game Booster's Auto-Boost.
I just got a Razer mouse and keyboard and it said install Razer synapse and then Razer cortex, but I didnโt know what cortex did so I didnโt install it. Now Iโm seeing that it says it will โBoost game performance while finding the best game deals.โ Is this true and do you guys use it?
Edit: Clarification.
