I literally know nothing about Redshift, is it worth learning to use?
Yes you should definitely learn it, Redshift ( or Octane or Arnold ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmFe192hwRU 16 hours content, $150 worth Redshift course and it's FREE. Graphics card recommendations
Unlike Video Games 3D is different. Don't buy an AMD card. Only buy an NVIDA card. NVIDIA has CUDA cores (and other custom cores) that are leveraged by basically every piece of software that you will be doing 3D work with. AMD dose not, you are (slowly, still in early alpha/beta) seeing some companies add support, but if you buy AMD you are guaranteed to run into some software at some point that just won't do what you want it to because it does not have support for AMD. Save yourself the headache get NVIDIA. (and for preference a 3 or 4 series) More on reddit.com

What NVIDIA GPU would be better for Redshift? A 4070 Ti? Or a 3090?
Yeah, stick with 3090 Especially since those also have SLI, so you could join them and get 48gig of Ram. Something that is now impossible with the 40 series. More on reddit.com

Maxon Redshift 3.5 GPU & CPU Rendering Performance – Techgage
July 7, 2022 - A simple performance graph like the one above does a great job at explaining what a faster GPU will net you, and how a slower GPU can hold you back. An option like the RTX 3060 may include a beefy 12GB frame buffer (with worse bandwidth than the RTX 3060 Ti and higher, it must be said), but it won’t offer any benefit unless a workload will use all of that memory. In the past, we used Autodesk’s 3ds Max to benchmark a couple of Redshift projects, but for this one, we’ve migrated to Cinema 4D (for a couple of reasons).

July 10, 2020 - When hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is enabled in Windows 10 (you have to enable it manually and reboot) the CPU-GPU latency theoretically should be reduced. In applications like Redshift that means you should end up with faster rendering times!

October 2, 2023 - We can only performance-test, not actually use the software as it’s meant to be. But the fact we encountered a few hiccups when doing so little makes us feel uneasy about suggesting the pairing. All of this said, Maxon is continually updating Redshift, as is AMD with its Radeon GPU driver, so stability should improve over time.

March 4, 2026 - The Quadros can typically render viewport OpenGL faster compared to the GeForces, but this doesn't affect Redshift’s rendering performance. Quadros have more onboard VRAM, which might be important if you are rendering very large scenes. One important difference between GeForce GPUs and Titan/Quadro/Tesla GPUs is TCC driver availability.

Redshift adds AMD GPU support | Puget Systems
September 18, 2023 - This means Redshift is taking advantage of the additional RT cores in NVIDIA’s video cards but not in AMDs. This represents the full potential of these cards at the time of this article. Even with AMD being somewhat held back here, their top-of-the-line Radeon RX 7900 XTX is very close to matching the NVIDIA RTX 3080. Even if the story ended there, this is a good showing for AMD and Maxon’s first attempt at GPU rendering on Windows.

r/Cinema4D on Reddit: I literally know nothing about Redshift, is it worth learning to use?
February 21, 2024 -

I get by with the standard renderer and have been for years. My main use of C4D is motion graphics based stuff. So no character animation or rigging or intensive modelling.

My workplace is currently investing in a specific GPU rendering machine worth like £30k and the main 3d guys who work on Maya will be benefiting from it.

I was told it would be also compatible with Cinema 4D so now I'm wondering if I should pick up some Redshift skills.

Are the benefits of using Redshift over the standard renderer worth learning it?

EDIT - Thanks everyone for the replies and advice. I am jumping ship. Taking the leap. Hopping the fence. Biting the bullet. Walking the plank?... Will start takkng a Udemy course on Redshift.

It’s also interesting to compare results from workstation and gaming cards: at the minute, the fastest single and dual-GPU scores are from Nvidia’s top-of-the-range workstation card, the Quadro GP100. However, the much less expensive Titan X Pascal and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti gaming cards aren’t far behind: the difference in performance looks to be in the range of 5-15%. And obviously, given that Redshift is a CUDA renderer, there are no scores for AMD cards.

r/RedshiftRenderer on Reddit: Graphics card recommendations
June 7, 2023 -

Hey everyone!

I've been using Cinema 4D for the past 2 years and recently started learning Redshift using my Macbook Pro with an M1 chip. I do animations so my file sizes tend to be quite large which a lot of the time results in Redshift not having enough VRAM to run. I want to upgrade from my Mac to a PC but I don't know anything about PC building and there are so many graphics cards to choose from. Can you recommend me some good graphics cards that are not crazy expensive? I'd also appreciate some tips on how to build a PC on a budget.

Thanks in advance

January 12, 2026 - Redshift’s ability to efficiently utilise multiple GPUs simultaneously makes installing many graphics cards a fantastic option to improve performance further. However, proper cooling becomes essential when using multiple GPUs. Due to their design, NVIDIA GeForce RTX cards are generally unsuited for multi-GPU setups.

r/RedshiftRenderer on Reddit: What NVIDIA GPU would be better for Redshift? A 4070 Ti? Or a 3090?
April 15, 2023 -

So back in 2021, I got two RTX 3090 Graphics Cards for Redshift rendering (and note: I'm talking about REGULAR 3090 cards here, NOT 3090 Ti's).

Unfortunately, one of the 3090 cards died so I sent it back to the reseller.

They've told me they can't repair the card, but would be happy to provide me with a replacement 4070 Ti (as a straight swap) instead.

So I'm wondering... For the purposes of Redshift rendering, would a 4070 Ti card be more powerful? Or would a regular 3090 STILL be the more preferable option?

It's kind of difficult to find what aspects of a GPU make renders faster. For Redshift, all I could find is this site here...

https://support.maxon.net/hc/en-us/articles/1500006456521-Does-Redshift-depend-on-CPU-performance-

And it seems to say that VRAM is the most important thing for rendering? In that case, I wonder if the 3090's 24GB of VRAM would be better than the 4070 Ti's 12GB?

What do you all think?

How Redshift leverages hardware: GPU, CPU & Memory requirements explained
November 22, 2023 - To optimize Redshift’s performance, it’s important to understand how it leverages different hardware components. While the GPU plays the primary role as Redshift is mainly a GPU renderer, certain preprocessing stages depend on the CPU, disk, and network such as extracting meshes, loading textures, and preparing scenes.

Redshift System Requirements & PC-Recommendations
November 4, 2023 - It has great single-core performance for Redshift and plenty of cores for other applications that might actually use them. If you then find yourself craving even more power, you can easily pop in an i7 or i9 down the road as well. But here’s the caveat on multi-GPU rigs: CPUs with high single-core performance are ones meant for mainstream consumers, mostly gamers.
