Question about replacing shower valve.
Best way to open a tile shower from the front to replace shower valve?
Milwaukee makes a m12 cut off tool with blade for tile , I use to use a grinder with diamond blade to make same repair but the cut off tool is more compact easier to handle it with one one while holding vacuume hose in other to suck fust as I’m cutting tile. I also use the same tool to cut Johnny bolts on toilet installs

Can you replace a shower valve without removing the tile?
Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may be able to replace a shower valve without removing the tile. The existing hole needs to be large enough to remove your old valve and fit your new valve. If the hole is too small, you’ll need to cut into the wall and remove some of the tile.
What is the difference between a shower diverter and a shower valve?
A shower diverter is a type of shower valve. It’s used to direct water from one fixture (like a tub spout) to another fixture (like a showerhead). This is distinct from a mixing valve, which controls the flow (such as turning your shower on and off) and the temperature of water. Your shower could have both a diverter valve and a mixing valve.

I need to replace a shower valve. The wall behind the shower is completely inaccessible. This is what my current valve looks like. I'm holding the new one in my hand.

I guess I need to cut a hole and/or remove some tile. How do I do this while minimizing damage to surrounding tile.
Is there a way to cut a hole that can be hidden by the valve wall plate? Should I leave a hole large enough to get to the valve in the future, or should I seal it up the way it is now?
Hello,
I'm a 2nd year apprentice. About once a month I have to replace a shower valve on a tile shower from the front. I use a larger 'repair' escutcheon and trace the inside of the escutcheon. Once the old handle and escutcheon are removed, I will then use my channel locks and carefully pry/chip out small sections of the tile starting from the hole and working outwards to where my lines are marked.
Is there a better/easier way you guys do this?

Oscillating tool with a tile bit is pretty handy too
