Designing Google Display Ads Images V.S. Generated Responsive Display Ads
RDAs generally outperform static banners significantly, as in 2x CTRs. And as such the other metrics tend to fall into line, i.e. much lower average CPCs and CPAs. Or put another way more traction at the same ad spend. However, branding is important too and some folks just don't like the look of RDAs. In these cases sometimes you're forced to accept lower performance so you can have control over the look and feel of your creatives. You might consider using a banner development tool that can automate a lot of the work, i.e. crank out all the different banners from one design. Even something like Canva and speed up turnaround. Lastly, you might consider HTML5 (interactives), which gives you the benefit of control over look and feel, plus generally higher performance than static banners. But that can mean much more work. (Google ads) Responsive ads - how to analyze assets
Grilled the rep about this when I was ranting about there approach to things on one of our monthly catch up attempts where they try to get me to spend x10 clients budget for no return on investment because just stonks right? “It’s coming soon” was the response after informing him I don’t know which is the best serving headline no longer and I should just ‘trust’ that the correct headline will show at the right time. Google Display ads - responsive only?
Responsive Display Ads, as ugly as they are, work. Banner ads generally dont perform as well, however it depends on your expectations. If youre a service, maybe banners (even tho less impressions) might be the way to go, brand image and all that. If youre an e-commerce, dynamic remarketing and forget about banners. What are responsive display ads and how do they work?
Responsive display ads are Google Ads formats that automatically adjust size, layout, and format to fit any available placement. They pull from your ad assets (headlines, descriptions, images, logos, and video assets) and use automation to assemble the best-performing combinations. RDAs run across the Google Display Network, including websites, YouTube, Gmail, and apps, improving multi-device compatibility and reach.

When should you use responsive display ads instead of static uploaded ads?
Use RDAs when you need maximum reach across devices and placements, faster creation, and machine learning optimization. They're ideal for testing multiple headlines and descriptions, images, logos, and video assets, and for personalization via audience targeting and retargeting. If you're unsure about exact inventory sizes, their automatic resizing protects coverage. Choose static uploads only when strict brand layouts are non-negotiable.

r/PPC on Reddit: Designing Google Display Ads Images V.S. Generated Responsive Display Ads
April 9, 2023 -

I am not really a PPC person, I have some experience, but I am a graphic designer for a company and our team has to design +10 images each time for a display AD campaign. It's takes a good chunk of time to find images + edit + add logos + add copy on the image and then export 10 images for PPC team to upload. I'm not sure of the reason why we don't just design a 'getty image + a logo' for the 3 different sizes and let PPC fill in the copy inside of Google.

My question is if the custom designed ads actually perform better than the google responsive ads? I can imagine it looks better and more branded/professional.

What are Google Responsive Ads? (5 Things You Need to Know)
With more than 50 percent of PPC ad clicks coming from mobile devices, Google developed its responsive search ads to perform on both mobile and desktop devices. That’s why these ads adapt to the user’s screen size. While all the components of your ad won’t display on mobile devices — since there’s less screen real estate — Google ensures that responsive search ads always display with at least two headlines and one description, which allows you to test for ad performance automatically.

April 19, 2024 - Google Display ads support JPG, PNG, and GIF. But keep in mind that even if you qualify for a particular placement, your ad won’t be shown if it doesn’t meet the size specifications for that placement. So it’s up to you to optimize your exposure by uploading different sized versions of each ad. Because that’s not the most fun activity, Google introduced responsive display ads and then eventually made it the default ad type for display campaigns.
