Hey everyone
After updating my iPhone to iOS 18, I started having this weird issue where certain parts of the touchscreen aren’t working. It’s super frustrating, so I’ve decided to reset my phone to see if that fixes it.
Here’s the problem: I don’t want to lose any of my data. Photos, apps, settings—everything is important to me, and I want it back exactly the way it was after the reset.
I’ve heard about using iCloud, iTunes, or maybe something else, but honestly, I don’t know much about how this works. What’s the best and safest way to back everything up and restore it after resetting? I’d really appreciate any advice or steps to make this as smooth as possible.
Thanks in advance!
I’m a nerd newbie of Apple Family with an IPhone 16p for almost a year. For context, I have ICloud with backup enabled, photo library sync and keychain active. I know that maybe these will be stupid questions, but want to be sure and maybe help someone.
Yesterday I tried to reset network settings to clear some logs and boom, all WiFi networks saved are gone. Well, this is expected on an android maybe or on an iPhone which stores data locally. But I was able to see my WiFi passwords also on my work iPhone SE (same iCloud account) on keychain. So why the WiFi networks have been deleted also from it? Them weren’t supposed to be on iCloud?
Now I’m afraid to loose my passwords and my photos when I’ll factory reset my iPhone to clean system files and logs.
I read that someone suggest to disable keychain prior the factory reset. Do I need to switch off also photo library sync before?
I normally expect that if I perform a reset of my iPhone and I have enabled keychain and photo sync, the reset won’t affect any synced data on iCloud, even if I leave them enabled when I’ll perform the factory reset.
Thank you so much.

I've been having battery woes with my 7 on iOS 11... 3.5 hours of usage gets me down to 16% with 20 minutes charging to and from work? Doesn't quite seem right to me... Cell service at work is pretty sucky, but I also have same amount of usage when at home with good coverage and similar battery results.
I'm wondering if someone could point me in the right direction with restoring.
In the past, I've restored from backup (I backup to iCloud daily), but I've read that restoring from backup could just bring the issue over if it's something wrong in the backup. How true is this? Is it really necessary to restore as a brand new iPhone?
If it is necessary to wipe fresh, how can I bring back my Health data, messages, etc. in the easiest way? Like I said, I have everything backed up to iCloud.
Thanks for your help.
Edit: this happened with iOS 10 too..

I feel like this is a dumb question but I have to ask before I do anything permanent. Can’t seem to find any straight answers after trying to look for a while. Maybe my google skills just suck. Whatever/ My phone has years with of apps installed on there and it’s too to go through everything at once. I’d rather just wipe all of my apps and restart with the dozen or so stuff I actually use. I’m tired of all my cluttered home screen and notification center
Ideally there would be a magic button that’d just uninstall all of my non-Apple apps. Don’t think that exists to my knowledge. My best option then is probably a factory reset. Although I want to keep my data that’s on all of my stock apps basically. Notes, photos, contacts, messages, and the health app. I’m fairly certain that 90% of that will be automatic with it being on iCloud. Health app I’m wary about. I have almost a decade worth of data on there I don’t want to lose
The watch is another thing. Been rocking an Apple Watch since the day one release. Does that get reset with my phone or what’s the process behind that? I know in the past both the health app and watch were confusing to follow for me when I was switching devices
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I have an XS Max (Yes I know, I'm too broke to buy a new one). Today it gave me this screen/error. I did the first 2 steps, and lo and behold it did not work and i had to do an iTunes update. Well lo and behold again, it also did not work, and gave me this 4013 error. I followed the steps there and lo and behold one more f*ing time, still did not work. So i decided to do something that I have never done, and i used 3uTools. I'm sorry, it was last option. I come a cross the flash function and the ability to flash it without erasing the user data(As exhibited in exhibit A and B). I am now considering wether or not i should do it, and alas thats why i have cone to you o' glorious internet. If you don't believe that this'll work, please give me alternatives. Thank you in advance because i know y'all are smart.
Exhibit A Exhibit BRecently, my phone was stolen and I put it in lost mode in the find my app, after retrieving it I had this screen without the forgot passcode button, I put it in DFU mode connected to a Mac desktop but the restore button wasn’t doing anything. I don’t have any backup, u have iCloud but it doesn’t have all the photos of this phone. I know the passcode to the phone, Apple ID and iCloud. I will try restoring it with a windows desktop as a last resort. Do any of you have any way I can access the media mainly and store it and then reset the phone?
I had a serious issue with my iPhone 14 Pro. Apple Store said the hardware was damaged and my only option was to format the phone or change the motherboard — meaning all data lost. I decided to try one last thing using my MacBook, and it worked.
What you need:
• High-speed Wi-Fi • MacBook (latest macOS) • Original Apple cable
Steps:
1. Connect your iPhone to the Mac using the cable. 2. Do a hard restart: • Press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then hold the Power button • Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen (computer + cable). 3. Your Mac will detect the iPhone and show a prompt.
👉 Select “UPDATE” (NOT RESTORE) — this is very important.
4. Let the software download and install (15–20 minutes). • If it crashes, repeat the steps again. 5. After installation, repeat Step 2 once more. 6. You should see the Apple logo and the phone attempting data recovery. 7. Do NOT unplug the cable at any point. 8. Wait until the phone asks for your password — your data should be restored.
⚠️ Key rule: Never choose RESTORE and never unplug the cable.
Subject: Resetting Settings on New iPhone (iPhone 15) Without Losing Important Information
I recently set up a new iPhone 15, restoring all content and data from my old phone (iPhone 12). I had made several changes to the settings on my old phone that I regret, but I can't recall exactly what I modified. I want my new iPhone to revert to its original factory settings without losing any other things like content and saved information, Apple Pay details, or passwords. I’ve done research and am aware of the option to “Reset iPhone settings to their default” but what these articles don’t specify is what exactly I can expect after I make these changes (from the moment my phone turns back on). Should I write my passwords down? What info will I have to redo? When I originally restored my iCloud account from old phone to new phone, why did it transfer the same settings (examples: accessibility settings I messed with and regret from my old phone, display settings like colors and random things being underlined). Is there a way to reset the settings without losing crucial details? If you include any article/support, please specify what exactly the outcome will be/look like/ and what I will/wont lose.
We as jailbreak users often come across times were there is no option but to restore the device in order for it to work. I used this method for a long time and in most cases it worked (actually in all the cases except one in which the device had a hardware issue).
This is a method which - strangely enough - not a lot of users in r/jailbreak know about which is why I decided to write a tutorial about it. hopefully it will save your precious data :D
.
Notes:
1- ALWAYS make a backup of your device before trying anything risky. Don't slack off because this method exists.
2- This method only works on firmwares that can be signed by Apple (i.e. usually the latest firmware) so there might be a chance to lose your jailbreak. If your jailbreak is more important to you than your data then use something like SemiRestore.
3- I've been using this method since early iOS7 days & tried it on many iPhones/iPads with different problems (Restore icon or bootloops that cannot be fixed, RSOD that was not caused by a hardware issue ..etc). It worked in all the cases except for one iPhone 5s which had BSOD because of hardware problems (basically every fix I tried gave me a new iTunes error code and all these errors suggested a hardware issue. finally got it replaced by Apple) but I cannot guarantee that it will work in every case. Try it at your own risk.
4- You will need a Windows computer to do this (or maybe run Windows on Macs).
5- This method is basically an "upgrade" for the device since there is no "Update" button in DFU mode/Recovery mode. It will not fix "iPhone Locked" issues nor will it clean or remove anything from your device (except Cydia and the tweaks). If you can click the "Update" button in iTunes then there is no need to use this method.
.
Tutorial:
1- Download the latest firmware for your device from ipsw.me (or any firmware in green which means it can be signed by Apple).
2- Download "make_noerase_ipsw" by Clicking here and then clicking "make_noerase_ipsw_r1.exe".
3- Make sure you have enough space on Drive C of your computer. It must be more than the size of the IPSW file you downloaded in step 1.
4- Using the mouse, drag the IPSW file you downloaded in step 1 onto the exe file you downloaded in step 2.
5- Wait, this might take some time.
6- When the process is done you should see something like this. Press "Enter" to exit this program.
7- You should now see a new file in the same folder you downloaded the IPSW file from step 1. This new file should start with "UPG".
8- Enter DFU mode (or Recovery mode) in your iPhone/iPad and connect it to your computer.
9- Open iTunes then hold "Shift" and click the "Restore" button then choose the new IPSW file which starts with UPG (the one from step 7).
10- When the process is done you will find all your apps/data. Except of course jailbreak related apps. Enjoy your device :)
I hope someone finds this helpful. I tried to make things as easy as possible. Feel free to comment/ask I'll try to help as many people as I can.

EDIT 1 (6-Aug-2015): Added note 5.
So I tried to delete a deactivated email that ended up in deleting all my contacts. I didn’t know they were tied to that email. However, I do have an icloud backup from a day before and I’ve tried everything to restore that backup to no avail. I can see the backup on icloud with the correct time but when I try to use itunes to restore the backup it doesn’t give me the option to and says “this phone has never been backed to the icloud” I’m on an iphone 12 and use the windows version of itunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys I know this isn’t about jail broken iPhone but can you please help. My phone just recently got into a recovery mode over a battery problem and I’ve been trying to look for ways to get it out of it: I seen software like tenorshare reboot say it will get your phone out of recovery mode but i don’t know if that’s true. Can anyone please tell me if it’s real or if theirs any other software or way to get my notes back.? I make music and I have songs in my notes that I really need:( I’ve never back up my iPhone either, can one of you please help me out 😭😭😭
Enter DFU mode: home+lock until Apple then release lock button, keep holding the home.
Cancel if update question shows up.
Now Shift click on Update instead of Restore. Select your IPSW.
STILL SIGNED!! 9.3.3
Done:)
How do I create the IPSW file? I was able to download the restore zip file from ipsw.me but when I shift click update no files are recognized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I did hit shift + update. For whatever reason it still did a clean install so I had no choice but to then restore from a back up. It was a little extra work but it was worth it to get everything back to normal.
Thanks again!
Hello guys I'm a newbie here and I would like to ask for your help. My niece accidentally factory reset my IPhone 6s and I don't know how I can recover my data from there. I haven't synced it with my Itunes or any cloud storage yet. Can you guys recommend what to do? Or what third party app should I use to restore the data? Thanks a lot guys!
You can’t. An iOS reset is done by removing the encryption key on the device. That makes all the data immediately unreadable.
You made a foolish choice to not backup your device. You are out of luck. So sorry.
Not without a backup I don’t think you can.
How was it factory reset?
Hi all.
My dad's phone has been blocked because he forgot his passcode and as it looks it is permanent and needs to be reset. What happened is that he is hospitalized for 2 months now and his memories are getting weaker as time goes. I do know his passcode and wrote it on a sticker but it fell off.
I am not sure if he has important stuff in the phone so I would like to not reset, would it be possible? Thanks.
edit: also to add, I tried to remove the passcode before but it wasn't possible because it required him to be at home and he was already in hospital at the time.
I have over 10GB of "Other" taking up iPhone storage. I've tried everything I can google to get rid of it. Last option is to reinstall iOS. This means unlinking my watch, undoing Apple Pay and Apple Pay Cash, and then redoing these things. Is there an official way to restore iOS without doing a full restore of the phone? Thanks in advance!
My old phone is broken and I’m trying to switch over my backup without being able to reset the old phone I dropped my phone in the pool when I turn it on it just shows a white screen how do I get my data from my old phone without resetting it
