My BF and I have been listening to this song up and down, (we're going all around) and can both agree that the chorus reminds us of something. I said it might probably be some super old song that we've forgotten about? We cannot figure it out tho, anybody feels the same or has even figured out?
Very very good!!!!
I keep refreshing but this clip is all I've seen. Sounds GREAT.
Right off the bat, the instrumentals are incredible. The guitars take center stage, and the electronic elements really enhance the overall sound, rather than dominating it. It’s a big contrast to something like We Got the Moves, where the synths are the main focus and the instruments are more tucked into the verses.
This is a Kevin-centered song, and it really highlights his vocal style. His harsh vocals have a pitch behind them — there’s an actual note, not just false chord screaming — and the guitars underneath really bring that out. He uses a variety of techniques here, and honestly, that might be the most creative use of a “bleh” I’ve ever heard 🤣.
Nico’s chorus, in that minor key (I think? I’m not a musician), gives me chills. I’ve seen some people say the chorus feels underdeveloped or not as strong, but I don’t think it’s meant to be the focus. I might agree that the lyrics in the chorus could’ve been a bit more developed, but honestly, it doesn’t bother me. This song is clearly a Kevin showcase.
I don’t love the kids’ voices at the beginning and end, BUT I think it’ll make way more sense in the context of the video.
LIVE: The crowd is 100% going to sing that intro and outro live, and it’s going to be cool as hell. Kevin and Nico trading off and backing each other up live is going to be incredible. And you just know Pascal and Daniel are going to be absolutely jamming during this one.
And personally, I think this song really shows how healthy the band is right now. So many bands end up revolving around one member, but this feels like a true group effort. Kevin has said it’s his favorite track on the album, which is such a stark contrast to how creatively frustrated he sounded talking about the last album they worked on before Nico joined. They were finding their sound in Tekkno, but here, you can really hear each member’s influence, and that honestly makes me really happy.
Definitely a 12/10 for me — I can’t wait to see a live recording of it.
It has always been difficult to decide which one is best. I love many songs from the Sushi era going back to Is Anyone Up. Crystals was always fighting for the top spot for me, but then all new songs in the Hypa Hypa age have been absurdly good. And now Revery... it's just so good and catchy. Is this a new peak?
Given how much the band has said they love I Prevail in interviews, this “bow down” has to be a shout out, no? :)
Posted this on the EC discord server a couple of weeks ago, I figured time has come to share my embarrassing story..
I have 2 kids, the younger one (child2) s in the age when they love learning synonyms of words, being a bilingual household I strongly encourage it, wherever I can. I also encourage live music, alternative music, so metal, especially EC is on heavy rotation in the household, every live stream, every Vlog is a family watch event etc. etc.
Saturday morning is usually spent with at least an hour or two spent in the car, in traffic jam, so metal-EC playlist comes handy to let off steam, have some singalong in the car. One of these mornings, Revery comes on the playlist -of course it does- and singalong starts. When Kevin's line "Faces, I see those faces" start child2 changed the word "faces" to the one "f*ces" which is an archaic synonym of "poo"..because they must have read or heard this word somewhere and of course singing from top of their lungs and of course child1 immediately continues it at the next line "scary faces" becomes "scary f*ces" and when the song finishes starts to scream "poo soong, f"ces song..Mum, play the f"ces song again"...I am of course mortified inside, but also super proud and happy about the creative talent and freedom of expression but also...dying inside because Revery is such a beautiful song but now my kids refer to is as the "F*ces/Poo song"
I am deeply sorry to EC that my kids are now ruining the lyrics of this masterpiece..
Personally, mine is from Revery. I just love the speed of it and how Kevin's vocals are in perfect synchronization with the instrumentals
